Best social media posts in travel and hotels

In this 2023 webinar, Sarah Bassett (Head of Growth at Maybe) and her colleague Donna guide travel and hotel operators through a step‑by‑step social‑media playbook. They demonstrate how to use the Maybe platform (scheduler, Engage tab, mentions) to turn everyday content into trust‑building, reach‑driving assets. Real‑world examples – the Bay Tree Hotel’s behind‑the‑scenes wedding prep TikTok, Loch Melfort’s drone‑shot location showcase, and Rudding Park’s user‑generated spa‑day posts – illustrate tactics such as creating prep videos, tagging every vendor, employing local and niche hashtags, highlighting unique location features, and resharing guest photos as free testimonials. The presenters also show how to systematically monitor comments, mentions and tags via Maybe’s dashboard, engage with local complementary businesses, benchmark against competitors, and leverage free or sponsored access. The session ends with a concise checklist of habits for ongoing growth and a teaser for the next webinar focusing on May’s top‑performing posts.

Everybody. And good morning, Donna, how are you?
Good morning. Yeah, I'm actually really good today. How are you?
Yeah, I'm quite perky. The sun is shining which is always nice. It's always nice. We like that. And yeah, I've got. Some of my dailies are starting to come through now so it's very exciting. It's very mumsy. Yeah, yeah, I'm looking forward to this. I've just had a little look at the slide deck. It looks really romantic and nice.
It's going to be lovely. It just makes you want to go on holiday. This is the thing. It's all kind of that kind of staycation type of thing. All about reminding us that we're allowed to go places and do things.
I know I've got a little holiday coming up.
Me too actually.
Yeah, quite excited, Very jolly. We've got people pouring in which is great to see so many of you with us as always. And so today you've got myself and Donna. So I think should we, should we get underway?
Let's crack on.
Okay. Good morning, my name is Sarah Bassett, I'm head of growth at Maby and I'm joined by a lovely Donna and we're going to be talking about all sorts of lovely things. Quite romantic, travel and staycation and hotels. Stories to look at today, some really interesting posts. So we're going to cover how to create more trust through your preparation. Oh, interesting. How to drive more reach for one post. Well that's what we all aspire to do, isn't it? How to celebrate your location to increase chances of coming up. Ah. In your potential customers feeds.
Yes.
Location tagging, very important. And you can do that within the platform. Now in the, in the content scheduler. I spotted that the other day. It's rather a nice new feature. And how to use how using customer content. Yes. User generated content is a great way to drive inspiration to book or purchase. And then how to use maybe to keep on top of customer content. Maybe has got lots of great tools and tricks and tips and things that you can do to do that. So I think we'll get underway, shall we? Next slide. So here we go, maybe dashboard. And this is where we go to collect all the data that we share with you on these websites, webinars and this is where you can come to find the same data or data that's relevant to you and your business and your industry sector. So you can schedule content, you can respond to comments across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can engage with people that aren't mentioning you, it's lovely when somebody mentions you. Well, most of the time it's celebratory. Sometimes it might not be quite so complimentary. You might want to take it offline and, you know, turn it into a positive. And then the platform allows you to engage with people that have engaged with you in the past. And it's about being social, isn't it? So it's driving that conversation. And then if you use ads, you can connect your ads manager and manage your social media advertising. If you're not yet using ads, we've now got a new training session on a Thursday morning which is getting started with social media advertising. Then for those of you that have got some good experience and you want to get better at it, Friday morning's your time. So I thought I'd mention that. And you can just click into the book training tab, which is highlighted on the top menu bar and that's how you can join those training sessions. So let's get underway. Let's see what fabulous data we found around the travel and hotel. I'll hand over to Donna.
Thank you. So we are going to start with the Bay Tree Hotel. So, so let's go through to have a look at them. So this is the Baytu Hotel and they're based in Burford and they specialize in exclusive use of the hotel for house party style weddings. So the Instagram feed generally, which is coming up. Come on Instagram. There we go. Right, so as you can see, this is their sort of main Instagram feed and as you can see it kind of features lots of, you know, couples, you know, that basically celebrating their day. But it also shows, you know, a lot of the, the prep and the setup. So that's actually what I wanted to focus on today was actually this. So this is a little tick tock. Okay, you get the gist without the music. But so what they've done is they have shown in one little TikTok, basically they've taken hundreds and hundreds of photos of the prep that has gone on to this wedding with Ant and Jo. They've put it all together on TikTok. So just lots of images on TikTok of, you know, all of the beautiful different decorations of the, the prep, of the food, of the flowers to give you a real understanding of this is genuinely what we do. We are really, really good at what we do and it kind of gives people a real of the sheer effort that goes into putting a wedding like this together. So by creating a TikTok and posting on Instagram it's all about building trust. So it gives people an understanding of, you know, this is the full experience that they're going to get. So whilst seeing, you know, a really gorgeous, happy couple is amazing. If I'm a bride to be, a groom to be, or, you know, I'm planning my wedding, I want to see everything, you know, like, you know, this is the biggest day of your life. You might only do it once, who knows? And the idea behind it is that, you know, you should. You should want to see everything. I would want to know what the staff are like. You know, I've done it myself, you know, I want to know what the staff are like. I'd want to know, you know, do they supply the cake? You know, how do you choose the food and what kind of food do you supply, you know, the decorations, all of the detail that goes into it. And so by doing, like, something as simple as taking a whole load of photos of the prep and chucking it together on TikTok, all for free, and then putting it on Facebook as well, it just means that. And so on Instagram as well, it just means that they're getting more bang for their buck. They're actually showing the preparation. They're giving a real understanding to any potential people who are wanting to have their wedding there, what their wedding might look like, to give them a bit of inspiration. But it just. It provides that kind of. It shows teamwork, it shows skill, it shows the full experience. Now, ways to enhance this from my own personal sort of viewpoint would be. So here you can see Jo's makeup and hair. Love working with you. Wonderful wedding on Friday. So she clearly did the makeup of the bridal party. Now, if I was Baytri and I knew that I would have tagged her in, I would have also tagged in whoever did the flowers. So you find these things out, you know, that obviously beforehand you know who's delivered in the flowers, because you would have organized that with the. With the bridal party. Who's delivered in the flowers? Does the chef have an Instagram? I would have tagged in the chef. I would have tagged in anybody that provided, you know, that whether it was the bunting for the chairs, you know, if there's the balloons, you know, I'm assuming that that wasn't all in house. They probably got someone in to do that kind of thing. It might have been, I don't know. But anyone involved in that prep, I would have tagged them in there, because that would have gotten, you know, at least sort of, I would imagine, between five and 10 different businesses, probably all within the wider area, who've all got their own social media, we've all got their own Instagram, who've all got their own websites and that kind of thing. And it was just really expanded their reach. And guess what? If you're buying balloons from, say, whoever did this balloon arch, it might be that, you know, you've got a wedding and so you've got wedding coming up, it might be that you've got a party coming up. And suddenly they go, oh, I didn't know they did that. I've got 60th coming up. I'll use them. So, you know, you're promoting other businesses and then in turn they're promoting you. Because if I'm on looking for balloon arches, I. I might also be getting married. I might have an engagement party, I might be having a baby shower, and I might have that at the Bay Tree. So it's all those kinds of things that I guess that, you know, to think about. So I would have made more of that by tagging. So again, just don't underestimate the power of tagging in this. And then also I would. The other ways of doing this kind of thing would maybe be to do some. Some walkthroughs, so actually have a staff member, you know, that walk through and actually physically show you. You know, this is where the bride comes in and this is where they. And this is, you know, to kind of give you a bit more of an overview and make it more interactive. You know, I'd want to see what, you know, the bride would experience going up the aisle. And then again, it might be, you know, the. After dinner, drinks and dancing, the reception again, you know, showing, you know, what did that look like? Were there lights? Were there not lights? All that kind of stuff that all really helps just build up a picture. And then finally it's maybe even doing like the taste test. So it's thinking about, you know, could you have gotten. Could you get a couple to actually be on film doing, you know, tasting their, you know, doing the tasting menu and that kind of thing, you know, talking about, you know, how much they like the food and all those kind of things, you know, or why did the happy couple pick this venue? Why did the happy couple pick that food? So rather than just taking their gorgeous pictures, it's actually turning it into something that's more of a testimonial, more interactive. So basically my sort of viewpoint on this is that they've done an incredible job. And then there's Just so many little tweaks that they could do to enhance it and to make it even better. And I think any business can learn from this. I mean, the rest of their feed is gorgeous anyway. You can see this is the beautiful cake table. So they obviously choose to have a whole load of cakes at theirs. And, you know, they've gone into tons of detail. It's stunning. But imagine that in video form. Imagine actually seeing, you know, like the cakes being made or the cakes being delivered. And you know that how you know that? We all know that food porn works, you know, like that. That just makes you want to, I mean, it makes you want to go and gorge on cakes, doesn't it? But that's the principle behind it. And again, if you're a cheese lover, a table of cheese, you know, like it's, it is, it's, you know, taking something simple. So, you know, any business can learn from this by making sure that you are putting your product forward in the best way, but actually thinking about the prep that goes into this, you know, so the prep that would have gone into whether it's your window display or whether it is, you know, that you're a restaurant and it's, you know, you've, you've got a brand new menu. How did you come up with the menu? You know, what went into it, what detail went into it, did the staff get involved? People want to understand prep because it builds up trust, it builds the relationship. And of course, it creates that sort of fear of missing out, that, oh, my goodness, I desperately want to dive into that table right now, that sort of thing. So any business can learn from this. So it's, you know, taking something simple, turning a whole load of images into like a little video, really, really works. Instagram loves it. TikTok loves it. Facebook loves it. Video content's great. So even if you don't want to do your own video, do what these guys have done and take a bunch of pictures and put them together. But honestly, like, they've done a really, really good job. It's just then taking it to that extra level.
I liked that if you go back to the first image that we showed, their use of Intimate Wedding, because actually that is a, As a consumer, that might be what I'm looking for. It's kind of like the usp, if you like.
Yeah.
And I just thought that was really nice.
Yeah.
And some of the hashtags that they use and they're just sort of, you know, they're not going overboard, but they're just in A real nice picture under the end of the content.
I would also have used local hashtags in there as well because, you know, of where they're based. You know, like they're in the Cotswolds and, you know, an idyllic wedding location. I would be doing hashtag Burford, hashtag Cotswolds, Hashtag Cotswolds weddings. Hashtag wedding in the Cotswolds. You know, there'll be loads of hashtags that they can use. But you're totally right, that's something that I meant to mention. You know, like use the. Those hashtags but also use local ones as well because people are looking for exactly that. Cotswold's weddings. So.
Yeah, but really lovely.
Yeah, great job. And again, really simple. It's not, you know, like, it's not something that's. That any other business wouldn't be able to emulate this. You know, like, you don't have to be a wedding venue even.
They're not even professional photos, are there? They're taking on a phone. But they work really well.
They do it work really well.
Yeah, yeah, really nice. That will go next.
Okay, so next we are going to talk about how you can use the maybe Engage tool. So for me, any business or place, any business or a hotel, if you like, if we're talking about hotels in a place, should be looking at ensuring that they support each other. Because if I'm a bride looking to book my wedding at the beach in Burford, think about all the other things I need. I need flowers, I need a cake, I need a dress, I need a car, I need, you know, so there's so many things that goes into a wedding. So it's all about the businesses in that location. So if I was a business covering any of those things to do with any. Anything to do with weddings whatsoever, I would want to be engaging with the Bay Tree and any other wedding venue or hotel or party venue in that place constantly. Now, the best way of doing this. Now let's see if we're. This is going to work is to go to the Engage tab on the maybe dashboard. Because you don't have time as a business owner to be, you know, like sorting through Instagram and Facebook and trying to find all these businesses. We do it all for you on the platform. So what we do is we look for your location. There we go. We've got Burford right there, as if I did this by magic before. So here we go. So I've clicked local, I've clicked Burford so if I'm the bake tree, I want to be engaging with anything else to do with weddings and anything else to do with anyone else that's, you know, like, it might be a beauty salon, they all need to get their nails done beforehand. It might be a makeup artist, it doesn't matter. But think about the other things that these people are doing in your area. So if they live within your area, they also need coffee, they also need cakes, they also need sandwiches, they also need, you know, they also go to their local pub. So any local business you should be engaging with. So what this does is this tells me all the businesses in Burford that are local and it shows the best posts. And then what I can do is I can start going through them and going, brilliant. What's the Burford Garden? So grass skirts for the cafe. Great. I can, like, I can comment, I can engage with that. And you know what that does, that automatically means that if I'm the big tree, I. I'm immediately coming up in that conversation. So if that's had, you know, 1.7 4,000 likes and 33 comments, that's a lot of people. So suddenly those 33 comments, if I become the 34th person to comment, suddenly those 33 people go, oh, who's that? I'll click in on them. And then suddenly they find you and that's how they follow you and that's how they come across you. So it's the best way of. Basically, it's like a digital networking or digital sign posting. It's the best way of coming up to the right people in the right area that are your potential customers. And if you look at the types of businesses, there's so many different types. You know, there's antiques, stay in the Cotswolds, there's again, like, places that people can stay. People also, you know, if you don't provide accommodation in your place, then you would also want to be, you know, working with Airbnbs and, you know, local cottages and things like that. It might be pubs, so many. But also on the flip side, if you are, if you're a florist, if you are a baker, if you are a candlestick maker, it really doesn't matter. Anybody should be on looking at your local, looking at your location and engaging in this way, because it's the best way to repeatedly come up to the right people in your area. And guess what? The reason why these guys are coming up is because they've got really engaged or they've got a really engaged audience so we've done the doing for you basically. So get on, get onto the Engage tab, click location, click your place and then you can select dates and then you can start sifting through and start getting engaged. And honestly, if you make this part of like 10 minutes daily, you're increasing your reach, you're increasing the amount of eyes on your feed and you might start getting some collaborations with local businesses as well.
Yeah, and that's the thing, I mean, whenever I'm talking to, you know, to clients, sort of higher level, if you like, local authorities and we're talking about. Because a lot of local authorities sponsor their businesses to have access to the maybe platform. So it's well worth you checking whether there's sponsorship in your area. So you can have access to lots of the tools all paid for for you. But it's about, it's about thinking about who is my ideal customer, who do I want to go out and talk to and where else are they hanging out. And like you say, go and find the complementary type businesses. A, you've got an opportunity to collaborate, but B, you know, their followers, you want to go and talk to them, not just your followers, you need to go find more people to add to your bench. So yeah, it's a great way to build your audience and find your ideal customer. And also, do you know what I mean, from a place level perspective, the more businesses start engaging with each other and being more collaborative, the bigger the picture and the reach and the vitality that you're bringing to your individual location as a whole. Because people want to get a feel on social media what happens in Burford. They might search Burford and they find a whole hashtag Burford. Find a whole load of fabulous things that they're looking for. You're not in the conversation, you're not part of the collective offer. Don't be scared about engaging with other businesses content. It sort of feels a bit wrong, but it's not, it's absolutely best practice.
100% right now we're going somewhere else. I mean, look at this. So this is up in my, my motherland. This is up in good old Scotland where I was at the weekend. So this is the Scotland's Loch Mil hotel. And what I love about this is. Let me see if I can show you. Isn't it gorgeous? Okay, so what they've done is they sent a drone up to capture Sunset off the pier next to the hotel. So this isn't the hotel. They're not talking about the hotel, they're talking about the location of the hotel. And what I absolutely love about this is that they drive the most engagement. So I mean, like, you know, they show off like, you know, their food and they do show off, you know, like bits and bobs around their hotel. Right. But, you know, they really don't get a huge amount of engagement on those ones. The bits that they get more engagement on it is actually food and its location. So if I know that, then I'm going to do more food and I'm going to do more location because that's clearly what the, you know, give the people what they want. Right. And so what they do is they showcase, they drive the most engagement by showing off the activities and the surroundings of the hotel. And their Instagram is generally sort of filled with beautiful landscapes, aerial shots, sort of dogs enjoying, like scenic walks and things like. Let me have a little look. Dogs enjoying, like lots of scenic walks and things like that. You'll kind of see, look. I mean, it's just beautiful. This is all about their location. It's where they are. Lots of Highland cows, lots of little goats, lots of just things to do in the area. And then a classic pint, obviously. And from that, so they can even see like, you know, where they get their catch of the day from and things like that. They talk about, you know, where they source their local, like, you know, where they source their. Their salmon and things like that. So they really go into detail about the area and what people can, I guess, experience when they go there. So it kind of shows guests why they should consider a stay in their place as well as the hotel itself. So if I thought about it, it's looking at. Here we go. I'll go back to the actual post. So thinking about now, if people are coming to me, what are they coming to me for? Now it might be that they are looking. They're coming from, say, England and they're looking for. They're looking for a stay in Scotland. Okay. Or it might be that they know that they know the place and. Or they know like, you know, roughly where they want to be somewhere up north, but they're not quite sure where they want to go. So how do you make sure that, I guess, you know, that they come to you over anyone else. So when we take a look at what they've done, it's their hashtags. So they've done Scotland drones. So it's anyone who's like a drone enthusiast or looking, looking at, you know, beautiful views in Scotland will be following that kind of hasht. Then it's things like the Scottish coast west is the best. Wild About Argyle. So these are all local, locally driven hashtags that people who are enthusiasts about that area would be following, which means that they might never have heard of Loch Melfort. But actually it's the, you know, suddenly they're coming up in those hashtags and then if I then was watching that hashtag and saw this gorgeous scenery, I'd go, oh my God, where's that hotel that looks incredible? Then you can look at the rooms, then you can look at the other thing. But when it's something like this, it's thinking about what is my usp, what is my unique selling home, what's the big thing that people want to come to me for? The food's great, all that kind of stuff. But they can get that anywhere. This view you can't get anywhere. And that's what they understand, they sell that. So it's really good use of hashtags, but it's a really good understanding of what people are actually coming to me for and giving them that. So, you know, they come to us for the views and the amazing location and then, then, you know, they get some great meals and a great room and all that kind of stuff. Almost like as the extra bit. So I think from my perspective, any business should be thinking about, you know, what's in the local area, what are we next to, what can we provide that no one else provides and talk more about that, you know, that show, you know, it might be that, you know, you've got a local photographer that specializes in, I don't know, like taking pictures of like Bird Life in the Cotswolds or whatever it is. Share some of that, you know, actually take some of their content and share it and start using it and start tagging them in and start. Because again, it's things like that that go, you know, you might even be like an independent high street store and you're in the middle of a high street. Actually, all of this is on your doorstep. So if you want to talk about where you are in your location and why people should come and visit, this is why. So it's thinking about why people come to visit, what is of interest. And then also if I'm an, if I'm a local business here, the other thing I'd be wanting to do is I would want to be engaging so much with a post like that. I'd want to be going in and going, oh my goodness, you know that I absolutely love this and you know that we we're actually only down the road from the hotel and come along to us, you know, so again, it's that whole digital signposting thing because guess what, if they're using your hotel, they're also going to be, you know, they're going to need things like, I don't know, things to do with the kids for the day or what nature walks to go on or places to enter by a sandwich or whatever it might be, you know, for their walk. So it's thinking about all of those things combined. But I think my key message really is thinking about why people want to visit you. And what's the usp? What's the thing that will tip them over the edge? And then it's thinking about what they're looking for on Instagram in terms of hashtags that will, that means that you, that this kind of image will come up for them or this kind of video will come up for them.
Interesting, isn't it? And I would imagine that actually, because not only have they looked at the drone enthusiasts and, and taken like a niche market, because I would imagine there's lots of people who, who are into that, who love this kind of views, but equally, you know, they will be sharing this content. They'll take this video and go, wow, you know, that's a great example. So by sharing the content then effectively, you know, they're spreading the word themselves. So it's about, they might not necessarily be wanting to come to the hotel, but they love the drone image. So it's sort of finding other ways of getting people to share your content that aren't necessarily going to be coming to your place, but that will enhance the reach and to reach corners that other people can't, I guess I don't think that's very articulate, but no, it's.
A really good point. That's a really good point actually.
I love the cows. I wonder if they took the pictures of the cows. Is that user generated content? Did somebody else take that picture and they've reused it? Probably, yeah.
It did actually just look like someone had taken it on an iPhone or something, didn't it? So then I was thinking about this and thinking, well, how. So we looked at location. So then thinking about those hashtags then. So how can a business find the right hashtags? And then, so you don't want to just be coming up in that hashtag, you want to be engaging with other businesses and people using that hashtag, don't you? So here I thought, right, okay, so if I'm a hotel based in Scotland. What would my potential customers be looking for and what other businesses would be using this? So thinking about, you know, the rail network, thinking about flights, thinking about, you know, like, coaches, all that kind of thing. So the likelihood is they'd probably be looking at something like, say, Travel Scotland, for example. Right. So I created, I went in here and I added in a little hashtag. So literally typed in, I thought about, you know, hashtag travel Scotland. No, I need to find it now. There we go. In Travel Scotland. Now, you would find your own within your industry, whatever it might be. It might be visit Cotswolds, it might be visit Bristol, it doesn't matter. But basically here, what this does is this tells me these are all of the posts within this, this time period, there are people that are using TravelScotland. So if I'm a hotel, if I'm any kind of tourist destination, if I'm a cottage, if I'm. I don't know, anything, a wedding venue, it doesn't matter. If I'm a photographer, like, whatever it might be, I could go in there and start engaging within those businesses and within those posts, because guess what? If they are. If they're. If you've got customers that are following that hashtag and you've got businesses that are getting really, really, really engaged, engaged views, then these are people who are literally like, scotland, travel, hidden Scotland, stay in wonder, Scotland, photography. Now this, if I'm that hotel, I definitely want to be getting involved with and looking, going, oh, you know, we've got similar views where we are. This is amazing. It's all about coming, you know, so you're not just showing up, you're actually engaging within that hashtag as well. So then anyone using it is repeatedly seeing you across all these different posts. Because that's the whole point in the hashtags on Instagram is people follow those hashtags so they can see the repeated topics come up. So, you know, they. I don't know. They. It doesn't matter whether it's about babies or whether it's about travel, they're following something because they're interested in that topic. So the more that you come up within that conversation, the more that you engage with all of these types of content. I mean, look at that. So the more that you do all that kind of thing, then the more you're coming up to your target market and these are potential people that could come to you and if nothing else, is going to increase your reach, increase your following and bring the right types of people to your business as well. So I just wanted to show this off because I think a lot of people get a bit confused about hashtags and things like that. So I thought this is probably the easiest way of you doing it is to find whatever hashtag it is, think about what type of things would people be searching for that complements what you do or in your area, and then repeatedly go in there. So if I live, you know, I'm in. I'm in Buckinghamshire. So if I just used hashtag Buckinghamshire and I just type that in, then I would want to be repeatedly coming up to people in Buckinghamshire all the time. So they get used to me, they get to see me all the time. And then you never know, it might lead to a collaboration of some sorts.
Yeah, that's such a useful tool, isn't it? Just being able to pop a hashtag in.
Yep, it's really good. Okay, so final place is this gorgeous place. This is the Rudding Park Hotel. And I kind of want to go there, I'm not gonna lie. So if you're watching, feel free to get in touch. Right, so this is the Rudding Hotel. So they're really, really strong on Instagram. And what they're great at is sharing customer content as their own. So this, for example, customer content. This is excellent because what this does is it shows what the experience is really like at the hotel. So someone's clearly sitting here. This is someone taking a picture of their plates. This is obviously someone else taking a picture of this guy in the hot tub. It's just this is all, you know, like, customer content. It's just normal photos. They're not, you know, I mean, they look nice, but they're not, you know, this is clearly just somebody celebrating her life and so happy to be there. And, you know, she's got her a few glasses of wine there and, you know, loving life, clearly, with a few other people. But it shows what experience is really like at the hotel from a customer perspective. But what they've done with it is really interesting. So they've not just kind of shared it and gone, you know, come along to our spa. What they've done is, is they've used these images to showcase what a spa day is like. So they're going to take in, you know, customer images that they've tagged them in. Then they've gone, great. That this shows the hot tub, this shows the food, this shows, you know, like, the experience of sitting outside and chilling on a sun lounger with a glass of wine and Then what they've done is it's been a while since we've released any spa day offers, but it's their fifth birthday of their spa, so it seems rude not to celebrate. So basically they're given a special offer over, over May and June for a full spa day. They've given up all of the detail. You could have all of the, you know, literally, you know, this is what you get, this is how much as you don't have to go searching for anything. And then even though on Instagram you're not able to to physically click on a link, they've still just put it anyways. All I would have to do is copy it and put it in. Or of course you could just say link in the bio and on Facebook, obviously, if they did this and they could just click the link anyway. And then of course what they've done is they've credited the people who did the image. So it's like customers. So it's people who did the customer who did it, which means that they're much more likely to go, oh, look, there I am, you know, and they're going to reshade it again. So they're reshading their experience to their following who are much more likely to be interested in it. And then the icing on the cake is just all of the brilliant hashtags. It's Harrogate Spa Hotel Yorkshire, Harrogate Hotel, Harrogate Life. Because funnily enough, it's based in Harrogate in Yorkshire. Poolside, champagne, Prosecco, you know, like, so it's thinking about all the things that, you know, that people would be looking for as part of a spa day. Then they've done the local. It's just brilliant. So the different things that you can take from this is thinking about, well, how do you find user generated content? Well, think about it. People tag you in. So let's look at, you know, your Instagram. So it's thinking about all the people that have tagged you in saying, you know, we're here. Do you ever do anything with any of this content? We've all got it, we've all been tagged in something. So actually it's looking at that and going, right, okay, if you've got a whole load of people that tagged you in something and you never use any of it, then literally you can take that content. So I would take this one. I mean, she is high on life and happy, isn't she? So I would take something like this, I would take that, I would reshare it. I would tag them in it and then I would beg up, you know, the experience, and look how happy she is. This is a really happy customer. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And even, you know, that she's even tagged in, you know, like the. Where she got her swimming costume from. Why are we. Why are we as businesses not doing this? You know, this is what it's all about. You cannot get any more trust than. It's even better than a testimonial is someone that's physically gone. I've loved it so much here that I've taken a picture, I've popped it on my Instagram, I've tagged everyone in because I want to show people just how happy, how happy I am visiting, visiting this place. So any business should do this, whether you're a cafe, whether you're a restaurant. Look, there's just so many. I would be taking this and I would be shooting the hell out of it if it was me. Look, it's gorgeous. So all of us have this. All of us get tagged in content, especially things like restaurants and experiences. You know, if you're a hair salon and someone's showing, you know, that they're there, I don't know, like they're their picture of them, you know, on a night out, after they've had their hair done with, you reuse it and reshade it. That's, you know, that's what it's all about. So it's making sure that. It's making sure that you're constantly going through your tags and constantly looking at, you know, the people that are mentioning you and reusing that content. And in a minute, I'm going to show you that. I'm going to show you how you can do that through maybe, but it just, it's, it's. It's such a simple thing, but it's almost something we forget about. We spend so much time focusing on what can we do and how do we talk about this and how do we talk about that when actually we just use what the customers are doing ourselves.
Yes. Free testimonials, isn't it really?
It's free testimonials. Look, it's brilliant. You don't have to be a spa to get this kind of content. It's just thinking about. And if you aren't getting tagged a lot, then a couple of ways that you could increase this is to have, you know, so I don't know, you might have like a little bit sticker on your tail point. It might be on your menu. If you're at a restaurant or cafe that reminds people, you know, you know, take a picture of your food and tag us in it. We'd love to hear from you. You know, how your experience was today. Just reminding people that you're there because people love, people love taking a selfie, they love, they love taking pictures of food, they love talking about their experience. You know, we show the good on social media, don't we? We love it. You know, it's all about that, living that Instagram live. So let them live the Instagram life and let them tag you in so you can use the content. It's great.
Oh, interesting question.
Okay.
Do you have to ask for permission from the users to use their image.
On your feed if they have tagged you in? No, you can re share it and re tag them because they've tagged you in publicly. It's on a public thing. I personally, as best practice, I probably just drop them a DM anyway just to say, you know, I'd love to, love to reuse this, but most people, if you, if they have tagged you in, you're basically, you know, you put it out there in the public realm, you know, they've tagged you in so that you do something with that. So people would expect you to reuse it and reshare it, you know, like, so most wedding venues would, you know, who are tagged by the brides or something, you know, in their wedding photography would expect that to be re shared. So I think it's completely up to you. I think Fred Chicken always credit them. So yeah, you make sure that you tag them and credit them, but as long as they've tagged you. So again, it would be different if, you know, you just found something on someone's private profile that's completely different. But if it's some. Someone's tagged you. Yeah, but 100% use it.
Yeah, I totally agree. Good question though.
Really good question. So finally then, how do you keep on top of your tags? So it is difficult. You know, if you're somebody that's got a quite a busy account, you're constantly, you know, like doing lots of things, then the easiest way of keeping on top of, of your tags and mentions is to go into your maybe dashboard. There we go.
Always when it's streaming, isn't it? When it's always when we're doing webinars.
This lag. Here we go. Right, so what I've done is I can go to engagement and then I. So the engagement tab here. And then I can go to mentions. So these are all the people within a specific time period that have mentioned me as a business. So if I haven't quite caught it. So you know what it's like if you're running multiple channels, if you've got Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and you've got LinkedIn, all these different things, it's really hard sometimes to keep on top of it. So you can go directly into the engagement there and look at your mentions. And then what you can do is you can start by the newest, you can go back in, you can respond back to them, you can schedule, and you can schedule in to reuse it. You can assign it to someone if you want someone else to respond to it, or if it's just somebody that's tagged you in because, you know, everybody gets that, oh, you've won an iPhone nonsense on Instagram, you just skip it. But it's just the best way of being able to keep on top of things. And if you just make that one of your habits on a weekly basis, even if it is, it's there. And then obviously the other easy way of doing it is on your dashboard, because on your dashboard it gives you straight away. So no matter when you go on it on your dashboard, you'll see these are all the comments. So these are people who commented directly on your feed. And again, it pulls together Instagram, Facebook and Twitter all in one place so that you can just go in and you can reply back. I'm not having to sift through Instagram and stuff through and, you know, go on my phone and go on my laptop and all these different things. It's all there. So that's people who are commenting on my post. I can go in and start commenting back because that's all about engagement. And then I can start going into the mentions. So you can do it from here as well. And then this one is a brilliant one as well, because this is engaged. So this is anybody who has ever engaged with or talked about you, basically, you know, anyone that's ever talked about you, they clearly, you know, if they've talked about it in a positive way, you would want to re engage with them. So you go in here and it shows you their feed. So then I can just start going in and you know, going, oh, you know, great. You know, say it was a local florist. I would go in there and I would start going, great, you know, love your new, love your new window display, things like that. And so you're just kind of like keeping that relationship open. But yes, if you're struggling to keep on top of. On top of anything like that. Easiest way to do it is through this. And then it's just. Even if it's just once a week that you're going in and doing this, it all helps. And then it means you're getting that content. And then again you can go in and you can schedule the content through here as well. So, yeah, it's just a little hack that I thought I would mention, because again, there's just so much that maybe does. Sometimes it's just breaking it down like this that makes it a little more simple for people. Do we have any other questions before I continue? No, I think we're good.
Not so far. But if you do have questions, anybody do use the chat bottom. Because we're always happy to answer questions.
Exactly. So all of this, everything that I've just showed you and the dashboard, all of it is available for free. And then obviously you can add one competitor. So on here you've got your best post and then you can add in any competitor. So anybody that you want to compare your business to, to see. So it might be. If you're a hotel, you might want to look at another hotel. If you're a bakery, you might want to look at a competing bakery, just to benchmark and see how you're doing. But you can add in, you can do paid plans. There's so many different things. And you can also create a bespoke plan. So if you have someone that's got multiple businesses, or if you're a place, then just get in contact with us and we could help create, like a bespoke plan for you.
Yeah, I mean, it's, you know, there's so many different ways to do this, but equally, you know, it's always worth checking with us to see whether there is already sponsorship in place from your local authority, because we're all over the uk, there's lots and lots of places that are sponsoring access for their businesses. So do come and find out. But, yeah, I mean, you know, the free product's brilliant anyway, you can post as much content as you like across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the content scheduling tool. I mean, that's. That's an amazing bit of kit on its own. But yeah, pop in, sign in or invite, you know, if you, if you're already a maybe user. And don't forget, you know, if there are other businesses in your local area, you think you find the tool really useful, tell them about it, tell them they can sign in for free and give it a go.
100%.
We love a recommendation, don't we do?
Absolutely. Right, so I'll wrap up. So tag end businesses are involved in your business in any way or your event, it will increase your reach to the right audience. As I said, the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, anyone at all that was involved in your business or that particular day or whatever it is you're posting about, tag them in because you'll get more reach, you'll get more eyes on your feeds and more of the right eyes on your feedback. Celebrate your location and use the right hashtags that your customers will be using to target content more effectively. Use the mention tab on maybe to stay on top of customer content so that you can reuse it regularly and build up that trust and that rapport and then use maybe to learn what's working for you and others and focus your efforts there. So as I said, if I know that you know that my food and my location are the two things that everybody likes and talks about, I will keep talking about food and talking about location. So. And the only way to learn that is actually by looking on the dashboards and seeing what repeatedly coming up is your best post, what's your most engagement. And then you just create more of it. It just takes all the guesswork out of it for you, which is exactly what maybe is all about. And then next week. So we'll be back and we're actually going to be just doing the best of May. So we're looking at all lots of different types of businesses who've had really good engagement over the course of May, looking at what they've done. And we're going to bring you basically all the tips and tricks and of the. Yeah. Of how people have smashed social media in me.
