How being more personal gets you engagement on social

Polly Barnfield shows how Perry's of Echoes Hall, a family butcher shop, got 321 engagements on a post celebrating their five-year anniversary with the husband-and-wife owners and a one-day special deal. She walks through Facebook Insights to track what works and how to monitor competitors.

Hi. Today we're looking at how an independent business can win on Facebook engagement by having a personal approach to content. Now this is Perry's of Echoes Hall. As you can see, it's a family run master butcher, game dealer and they're based on up in Eccles Hall. And what they do really, really well on Facebook is connecting in a really personal way with their customers. They really show the family business that's actually behind the butchers. Now I want to talk about their best post. This is it here. Now what's amazing about this is that the post is very typical of the team at Perry's because it shows a husband and wife team celebrating their five year, not wedding anniversary, but business anniversary. People buy from people and people want to support local business by showing the faces behind the business here and they're inviting people to get to know them. By celebrating a milestone like a five year anniversary, they're inviting people to get to know them and to celebrate this milestone with them after, you know, a tough couple of years. For most independent businesses, they've also given a couple of special offers within the post as well to reward any of their customers who are actually viewing the post for their support over the last five years. So this to me is all about putting your staff at the forefront of your social media. Celebrating milestones will help keep your business at the forefront of customers minds when they're shopping locally. And a couple of other things to look at is that the put that the special offers are only available on that day so it creates a little bit of fear of missing out. They've given all of the detail of what's in the actual packs and then guess what, they've also told you exactly how you can order when you can collect from. They've given the phone number, they've literally given every single opportunity to purchase off the back of it. And in terms of the engagement they got, it's 321 engagements, 107 comments and 12 shares and look how happy everyone is. People love celebrating people. So make sure you put any milestones or anything I guess celebratory at the forefront of your social media. Now if I was Perry Zive, Eccles hall, there'd be a few things that I would want to look at. One of those things would be to look at groups of other businesses that I would be able to, that I would be able to monitor to see maybe, you know, in the area. Or it might be groups of businesses that I might want to monitor around the country. It might be that I've got multiple businesses, maybe you've got multiple sites for example. What you can do on the maybe dashboard is you can go into the Insight summary and you can add in any business or hashtag and then you can start to create groups just like we have for things like bids, things like shopping centers. They could look at butchers across the country to then monitor how well they're doing. So for example you can click here so say that's butchers. They can then look at all of the butchers in the area, all the butchers across the country. They can look at the number of followers, posts, engagements, posts per day, engagements per post, engagements per day, best post and guess what, they can even look at their content calendar and look at their ads so it starts to give them a real understanding of what's working for them, what's working for other people and guess what, how they can get even better at social media. So if you've got any questions whatsoever then please click the little blue button. We love to help.
