Today we're looking at how businesses can use social media to create collaboration and even poke fun to create engagement. Now, we've seen Aldi for years take the mickey if you like, out of themselves and also, you know, like, have little spats if you like, with the likes of maybe M and S. And the other week what they did was they went onto social media and now they got Kevin the carrot. They had people going into the. People going into Asda saying that they were looking for Kevin. So what ASDA have done is they decided to get their carrot detective on the case and they, they tagged in Aldi. So, you know, rather than getting annoyed about it, if anything, they saw it as a great marketing opportunity. They thought, you know, let's help them find Kevin. So let's have a look and see what they did. So why I love this is just, it's, there's just so many things, you know, the tag them in the video. It is two minutes, you know, well, sorry, it's like seconds long. It is then doing a really kind of like, you know, sped up kind of version of them hunting for carrots. It shows off their carrot aisle. So actually, you know, they're showing off that, you know, our carrots are better than your carrots sort of thing. It's really showing their branding. But what's great about it is they've just taken the mickey out of themselves. They've done, you know, we've got our carrot detective on the case. We're sure they'll get to the root and the root of the case of the problem. And then they've done happy to help Kevin the Carrot rooting for you as a Christmas 2022. So this is absolutely brilliant because it's, it's a bit of a joke, you know, like, you know, people love seeing a bit of drama between friends or a little drama in a relations. People love drama on tv. And what this is, is this is two companies that have gone, do you know what, let's take the mickey out of each other a little bit. And any business, you know, any place can do this. If you're, you know, one food retailer, it might be doing it to another food retailer, it might be a cafe doing it to your supplier, you know, could be absolutely anything, or it could be you doing it with one of the bigger boys. But ultimately this is about showing your customers that you can have a giggle and you can have a laugh. And you know what, it really encourages people to comment on which side they support. If you have a look at it, I Think it's fabit. All the supermarkets are coming in together looking for Kevin, especially after copper at the Caterpillar fiasco, you see. So people absolutely love it. They get engaged, they'll tag in their friends. It's so funny. It's so clever. I just think it's really, really good. So honestly, if you are, if you are close to another business in the area or maybe even a competitor, go speak to them. See if you could do something, you know, that's kind of, you know, tongue in cheek and a little bit funny because trust me when I tell you, it will drive engagement and people will really respect you a lot more for doing it. Now, if I was asda, I would want to be looking at the places, you know, that I have an ASDA store in, making sure I'm engaging with them. So I would go to Engagement on the Navy platform. Go to Engage and go to Location. So say it was Hampshire. So I would want to be clicking Hampshire and I might want to go, right, okay. I want to see what all the, all the other local businesses are doing in. In Hampshire, for example, you can do that, search for hashtags and it might be that there aren't any hashtags for, say, Black Friday in there, but there might be hashtags for something else. It might be local hashtags, but essentially you pick the thing, pick the place, you go in there, and then what will come up are all local posts from local businesses within the area. And then if I was as that, obviously I want to be seen to be supporting other independent businesses as well as obviously nationals. And I want to be going in and liking. I'd want to be commenting, I'd want to be getting involved, because guess what, you're seen then as a bigger band that's supporting a smaller brand. But then also it means that you're coming up in their conversation and they're start coming up in yours. And you never know, if you're a local business, it might actually, you know, it might actually engage them and it might be that you go on and say, you know, like, oh, my lettuce looks lovely in that salad, or whatever it might be.
