How celebrating place and people can drive more engagement

Visit Thanet's post about Leslie Gillian's Margate Architecture Tour got 63 engagements by celebrating local creators. The strategy works better when you tag the author, link related content, and actively comment on other local businesses' posts to build reciprocal relationships.

Today we're looking at how to celebrate place and people to drive more engagement. This is Visit Thanet and they cover the, the official visitor information service for Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and the villages around it. So obviously what they do is they use social media to try and drive more visitors down to those areas. But one of the things that I really, really liked was this latest post here. So it says grab a cuppa and take five minutes to read Leslie Gillian's blog, Margate Architecture Tour. Learn about the stories behind these iconic places and see how many you can spot on your next visit. Hope you enjoy. And then there's a link to it. So let's have a little look at the images that, that are associated with it. So here you've got obviously the kind of like underground, like caves. You've got the sort of dreamland with the roller coaster. You've got the Tom Thumb theater. So they're using the kind of carousel, if you like to show off, you know, like the different areas that you might be able to visit. So that alone would make you want to come on down. But it's also a great way to kind of like talk about local talent. You know, someone has written and posted an amazing blog about historic locations to visit and then what visit? What visit Thanet are doing? They're actually celebrating that. So they are boosting the area and the writer and giving the website a bit of publicity and it boosts engagement by sharing the content across all of them. If I was them, I would have also probably have, if this author of the blog had had maybe like a Facebook page, then I would have tagged the Facebook page in as well. But. Or maybe a link to even, you know, let's say they had a book or something like that I'd have added in a book. But other than that, you know, I think it's a really positive post because I guess it shows you, it shows that it's got engagement, you know, it's got 63 engagements, it's got four comments and people have written. It's such a well written and interesting article. Margate's Architecture. I visited often from the 1960s and I thought I knew Margate, but there's some great facts here. So there you go. So it's showing you that they're adding value and they're celebrating place, they're celebrating people within a place and you know, they're really adding, I guess, you know, some extra value to their followers in doing it. Now if I was visiting it, I would want to be making sure that I'm engaging as much as I can within my areas. So within each individual area that they cover, like Ramsgate or Margate, then I would want to make sure that I am, you know, engaging with local businesses because the more you do that, the more that they'll engage back with you and the more you're going to constantly drive people back and forth within the areas. So, so if I went to maybe went to Engage and then went to location and I typed in Margate and I make sure that I do local, then what comes up here? All the local businesses that are getting some, that are getting some strong engagement on social media right now. And if I was Visitana, I'd be wanted to go in there and actually start engaging with them. So it might be Madame Pop off vintage. So I would want to like, I would want to comment, I might even want to reshare the post and say, you know, they'd be celebrating a local business because that's what visit places places should do. They should be showcasing businesses, showcasing people, celebrating, I guess what it means to be in that area and get people really excited about visiting. Now, as always, if you've got any questions, click on the little blue button. We love to help.
