In this talk, the speaker explains how hospitality venues—especially hotels—can increase their social‑media reach by celebrating the surrounding area rather than focusing solely on their own rooms. Using the example of Scotland’s Loch Milford Hotel, the presenter highlights the power of posting landscape and aerial shots, local wildlife, and behind‑the‑scenes content such as the local fisheries that supply the catch of the day. When original visual assets are lacking, the speaker advises sourcing inspiration from local hashtags, sharing content from other businesses, and partnering with local photographers, always tagging them to foster relationships. The talk then shifts to engaging with nearby restaurants, bars, cafés, and attractions through platform tools (e.g., the “Engage” location feature) to discover the most active local businesses and celebrate them in posts and comments. This creates a digital sign‑post that directs potential guests to the venue and its surrounding amenities. The presentation concludes with a brief call‑to‑action inviting viewers to click a blue help button for further assistance.

Today we're looking at how showing off the area that you're in can really benefit you on social media. Scotland's Loch Milford Hotel focus a lot less on showcasing their rooms and as you can see, a lot more on their surroundings and the beautiful place that they're in, such as this post. As you can see, the Instagram is full of beautiful landscapes and aerial shots, things like dogs enjoying scenic walks and things like that. The local fisheries where guests can see where they, where the catch of the day comes from. It shows guests why they should consider a stay in your place as well as the hotel itself. Also, if you've got a lovely location and you don't have a lot of videography or photography yourself, what you can also do is look up local hashtags to get inspiration from other businesses or other places and share, share their things. Or you can find local photographers and use theirs. You know, there's always a local photographer that's taking pictures of landscapes. It might even be of like, you know, if you're even based on a high street, it might be the high street that you're in. There'll always be someone that's taking a beautiful image that you'll be able to share as long as you tag them. And you never know, it might just strike up a relationship as well with that photographer. But as you can see, anything like this is simply the best way of trying to attract people down to the place as well as to your venue itself. Now, speaking of place, if I was this hotel, I would want to be engaging with other businesses in my location because guess what, if you come to our hotel, you also need to use restaurants, you also need to go to bars, you might also need cafes, you might want things to do with the kids. Now the best way of seeing all of the best of your area is to go to the, maybe go to Engage and go to location, choose your location and. And then here you will find the most engaged businesses on social media within that place. So it's the best posts and they're all local businesses. So here what I would want to be doing if I was the hotel is celebrating all of these because guess what, my guests might want to use some of these businesses and it's a great way of driving, of making people who are, I don't know, on Love Pool, for example, they might not know that my hotel is there or my bar is there or my restaurant's there. So by commenting in this chat, and it's obviously got a lot of engagement, engagement, then suddenly it's like putting a little digital signpost back to you where people are celebrating. Pool, for example, or somewhere in Scotland. And then they go, oh, I didn't know that hotel was there, or I didn't know that cafe was there. Then suddenly they find you.
