In this instructional video, the presenter explains how small, independent businesses can increase social‑media engagement by actively celebrating their customers and local partners. Using Labour Cheese Farm – a Hampshire‑based artisan cheese maker – as a case study, the speaker highlights a recent Instagram post that featured a local customer, the Cheese Toaster, who purchased 20 kg of cheese for his mobile toastie business. The post combined high‑quality visuals of the product, playful copy, branding on the image, and tags for both the customer and the event venue, generating conversation and community interest. The presenter then outlines a repeatable process: capture authentic moments with customers, post them with engaging captions, tag relevant parties, and reshare user‑generated content. Additionally, the video demonstrates how to use the platform’s “Engage” tool to discover other high‑engagement local businesses (e.g., Railway Live, Gigi Vintage Winchester, Blue Apple Theatre) by filtering for a region such as Hampshire, and then like, comment, or reshare their content to foster reciprocal support. The overall message is that celebrating customers and collaborating with nearby businesses creates a virtuous cycle of visibility, trust, and sales. Today we're looking at how celebrating your customers can drive engagement on social media. This is Labour Cheese Farm and they are a delicious cheese loving business based in Hampshire which specializes in all things cheesy. So any kind of cheese lover would absolutely love their fresh array of artisan cheeses. As you can see, they're really strong on Instagram. They're always posting and they are always showing the people behind their business which is crucial to an independent business as well. Now they do this normally through great video content. They're always talking about cheese as you can see here. They're always showing, you know, how to cut the cheese. You know, there's various things that they do. One of the things that I loved was actually this. So this was a post that they did very recently and it was actually featuring another local independent business and they had, it's called the Cheese Toaster and they actually come in to buy over 20 kilos of cheese. And I mean he kind of does what he says on the 10. They are an independent toasty company and they travel around and do festivals and events and things like that. And what I love is that he's come in to buy the cheese and then they've taken a great picture of him and it's great because it shows his branding. They've even put the branding on the picture which I think is a really lovely extra touch to do. They didn't have to do that, but they did. So it's really celebrating A their customer and B another independent business owner which is brilliant. And what I love is it's also really, really showing their beautiful cheese. So it shows this is 20 kilos. And I think what I love is, is how fun they've been with the actual post itself. So which shows to me their relationship with the customer. So it says do not underestimate this man's strength. He's casually holding 20kg of our finest labour and gold. But for how long though? And then the tag them in at Cheese Toaster we have got another batch. This big stack could have is cooking up a fair few toasties this weekend and then lots of people have gotten involved and got engaged with the conversation and they've also tagged in market where the, they're going to be cooking up the toasties that weekend. So they're really, really celebrating their customer. They're really, really celebrating their, you know, like the, you know, the relationship between the customer and the, and the supplier I guess. And, and it's fun, it's really fun. So it just shows, you know, like it shows how engaging it is and, of course, it shows off the product as well. Now, any business can do this. It's just making sure that you know that when your customers are coming on site or you're, you know, you're having. Having a conversation with them, just get involved, you know, have a chat with them. Or indeed, if, like, these guys, you know, if they've taken the picture, then, you know, and they've posted it on their Instagram, then do exactly what these guys have done and then reshare it. It's just brilliant. Really, really good. Now, if I was these guys, what I'd want to be doing is making sure that I'm super engaged with other local businesses as well. So what I would do is I would go into engagement, go to Engage, and then here you can. I would type in, say, Hampshire, and then I would toggle to local, and then what happens is all of the businesses that are getting lots of engagement within Hampshire will then come up here. So I don't have to go looking for them, they just are here. So it would be any business whatsoever here. You've got Railway Live, you've got Gigi Vintage Winchester, you've got the Blue Apple Theatre, you've got all these different businesses. Now, if they're getting lots of engagement. If I'm a local business in Hampshire, just because they go to the theater doesn't mean that they won't come and shop with me, does it? So, in fact, it's more likely that they would shop with me because they live in the local area. So I would be going in and liking and commenting. I might even reshare their post. But it just means that you start coming up in their conversation, they might start supporting you back and coming up in your conversation. And it's all about sharing customers and supporting your place. If you've got any questions whatsoever, click on the little blue button. We love to help.
