In this tutorial, the speaker demonstrates how sports clubs—and any business—can use social media to generate excitement and attract new members. The example is a Facebook post from Erdington Rugby Club about a recent trip to Lyon, France, hosted by SV Rugby. The post includes several best‑practice elements: tagging the location and host, a carousel of happy photos, a thank‑you message, and a humorous image of the team dressed as Vikings. These elements together produced higher engagement than the club’s other posts. The speaker explains why each component works—tags improve discoverability, carousels tell a visual story, genuine happiness resonates with viewers, and humor sparks comments. The overall lesson is that sharing simple, fun moments and using these tactical features can help any sports club or business build excitement, connect with existing fans, and draw in prospective participants.

Today we're looking at how to use social media to build up excitement. This is Erdington Rugby Club and they call themselves Birmingham's fastest growing rugby club. And they are looking for boys, girls, men and women to join them. And one of the things they use Facebook for is to connect with their audience. So it's to connect with people who obviously love rugby and enjoy the sport equally. It's to connect with new potential people who might want to join the club. Now, one of the things I really liked about this post, this actually got more engagement than most of the other ones. This here was Iron Rugby Club and as you can see, they've tagged in that they were in Lyon in France and it says Edington in the on 2023. Huge thank you to SV Rugby who hosted us for our game, treated us like family. See you in Birmingham soon. And as you can see here, there's like a little carousel and with all of the different images of them playing, of them sort of going on like a little trip around, around Leon and then just having a great time. And I think what I absolutely love about this is just how happy everyone is. My brother just messaged me right when I was doing that, right, third time lucky. My brother's still sitting in my house. Apparently his mate hasn't turned up yet to come and get him. Anyway, today we're looking at how to use social media to build up excitement. And this is Errington Rugby Club and they use social media very much to connect with their fans, but equally they use it to connect with potential people who might want to join the club and get involved in the sport. This post here got them more engagement than most of their other ones. And I think the reason why is just because how happy and excited everybody looks. This is them being excited for the fact that they have got gone to France and they've had a great game and they have connected with another team. So as you can see, it says they've tagged in the place, so it's always really important to tag in the place. They said what it's for and then the thanked and the team as well, who hosted them, USV Rugby for the game and for treating them like family. And as you can see, there's like a little carousel of all the great pictures. It looks absolutely phenomenal. They've had the best time and they're very much living their best lives. And I think for any rugby fan or anyone even considering joining them, I mean, look at this one, it's incredible. Anyone considering joining them, you would definitely want to at the very least go out with them after looking at that, especially them all dressed as Vikings. That's hilarious. And as you can see, that image alone is the one that got them all of the. The comments as well, because it's hilarious. So I think it is just all about, you know, using social media to build excitement sometimes can be sharing the fun, sharing the simple things. And I think that's something that any sports club or any business actually could learn from.
