How to connect with your customers on social media

Liverpool University's social media manager shares three tactics: use striking campus photos, write captions that build community with a hashtag like #TeamLiveuni, and plan posts in a content calendar to track what works and compare against Edinburgh or Oxford.

Today we're looking at how to connect well with your customers on social media. Now this is Liverpool University. Obviously what they want to do is connect with students, potential students, like, you know, people who have been ex students as well, you know, just to kind of keep the connection there, but also any lectures and things like that. So one of the great things about this post here is that they have really captured the beauty of the grounds. So, you know, the image itself speaks a thousand words. I think it looks stunning. It really gives you a real, kind of a real view, I guess, of, you know, how beautiful the grounds are. So that would drive that connection initially just even through the image. Then it's the caption which is just beautiful. So it's, you know, good luck to all of our students who are taking exams over the next three weeks. Take your time, read the questions, breathe. Got this hashtag Team Liveuni. Now I think even the hashtag just makes everybody sound like they're all one team. It's not a kind of lecturers versus students or anything like that, you know, it's all one team, everyone together. It's giving support, it's showing connection and, you know, it's wishing everybody luck, which encourages, I think, you know, students and people to comment on it and say thank you and to wish each other luck as well or maybe to comment on it afterwards and say how well they did or if it was stressful and things. And I think just what's really nice is, you know, they're giving advice as well, you know, they're asking them to breathe and read the questions and saying, you've got this. So it just feels like a real team effort, which is, I think, what's really lovely. So for me it is, it's all about driving that connection so they understand what people are going through right now. They've connected through the actual beauty of the image and then the caption as well. Now if I was Liverpool University, one of the things I'd be wanting to do is maximize my time. So I would be going to the maybe platform and going to Content and go into Content Calendar and then in here what you can do is you can see all the content that you've already got scheduled in. You can see your previous week's content, so you can understand what worked and what didn't across all of your platforms. But then you can also start adding in posts as well. So you can start to add in posts, scheduling them in through the platform, which means that you've got everything in one place without having to jump across the channels and then you can also compare yourself as well. So Liverpool University might want to compare themselves with, I don't know, Edinburgh University or Glasgow University or I don't know, Oxford, something like that. And they can do that, they can add their comparison in here and then they can actually see their competitors calendar as well. So you can start to understand what's working for them, what's not, which channels are using. And yeah, it's just such a good tool to not only maximize your time and maximize your efforts, but also help you understand and also give some inspiration as well to your content. Now, as always, if you've got any questions whatsoever, click on the little blue button. We love to help.
