How to support your team using social media

Royal Holloway Sports Club can amplify member wins on social media by tagging athletes and events, using hashtags like #volleyball and #Commonwealth, and engaging with local businesses through the platform's Engage tab. The club celebrated Javier, whose Commonwealth Games medals were England's first in volleyball.

Today we're looking at how you can really celebrate your team's success on social media. This is Royal Holloway Sports Club and it's the sports wing of Royal Holloway University of London. As such, they post, as you can see, about the various successes of past and present students. What I love about this one is that this is a volleyball player who's since gone on to win England's first ever Commonwealth Games medals in the sport, which is a huge, huge, big deal. The fact that they continue to keep support and all their past members encourages engagement from those who have never even been to one, never been to any of their games, but also encourages some of the current players, I guess, to see, you know, the how well the previous players have been doing as well on social media. And I think it just really shows a kind of overall loyalty to their members as well. So I think it's really incredible. A couple of things that I would have done is this was Javier and here you can see that he's written back saying thank you. Now, I would have tagged him in it if I was doing that. Obviously they've put that they've gone to the Commonwealth Games, which again is incredible, but I would have tagged them in it. I would have probably tagged in the Commonwealth Games as well. And I would probably have used some extra hashtags as well, just to kind of drive, I guess. This kind of, I guess engages people who are already following them, but I would have then tagged in and so use hashtags to drive new people to the feed as well. So it might be hashtag volleyball, hashtag Commonwealth, hashtag, it might be hashtag beach volleyball, for example. Now if I was these guys, I'd be looking at how I can work within my local area to get more and more people to view my feed. And no better way of doing that than by looking for local engaged businesses and community groups and things on social media. So if you go to their engagement tab and go to Engage and then they would put in Holloway, which is their local area, switch to local. And what you see here is all of the best, most engaged posts from businesses and basically anyone with a business account within the local area. And if that was me, I'd be thinking, well, you know, if they support them, then why wouldn't they be interested in the sports swing of Royal Holloway? So it would be just going in and liking, maybe commenting and that just gives. It's like a little digital business card back you or a little digital sign post back to your business as well or back to the sports Club.
