In this instructional video, Polly Barnfield explains how local businesses can harness recognizable landmarks—using Ealing Broadway’s horse statue as a case study—to create nostalgic, discussion‑driving social media posts that encourage footfall. She advises adding simple prompts (e.g., “How many Christmases have you walked down this high street?”) to deepen engagement. Barnfield then demonstrates how to use a platform’s location‑search tool to surface the most‑engaged local posts, toggle between independent and national listings, and identify high‑performing content (e.g., a giveaway with 7,000 likes). By interacting with these top posts—liking, commenting, following—businesses can tap into existing audiences, increase reach, and attract new followers. The video closes with a friendly call‑to‑action to click the help button for further questions.

Hi there. Today we're going to look at how you can use landmarks in your place to get people engaged on social media. This is Ealing Broadway and although this was posted right about the festive season, this is something that any business can do any time of the year. Now what they did was they posted to try and remind people to come shopping for last minute items. And whilst yes, it's a really festive photo, the great thing about it is it's about the high street and it shows, shows you the iconic horse or the statue of the horse in the background. Anyone from Ealing will likely interact with this post because they've got fond memories of this statue and I think no matter which city or town you're from, everyone's got something like that, whether it's a park or a monument or fountain or it might even be the local shopping centre, it might be some gardens or something like that, but everyone's got something in a place that really shows off, I guess, you know, the, it gives you a little bit of nostalgia and it makes you take a little walk down memory lane. Plus of course it directly signposts people back to you. So what this is about is yes, it's reminding people to shop but they're doing it in a way that invokes memory and discussion which is all based around the high street, the statue and something, as I said, that could be done at any time of year to make sure that when you are talking about something like this, you know, which is really simple, you know, we're open from nine to six today and so this was, you know, obviously for very last minute shopping, make sure that you do think about, you know, what you can do to evoke a little bit of that discussion. So I would have added in here, maybe it could have been something about the actual statue. It might have been, you know, how many Christmases have you walked down this high street? It might be, you know, it could be, you know, what have you been buying today? Just anything like that. Just to add in a little bit more discussion. Now if I was Ealing broader what I'd be wanting to do is keep engaging as much as possible within my location. So I would go to the maybe platform and once I'm in there you go to engage and go to location and then you type in Ealing so that here it's come up with the Broadway and then what this does is it comes up with all of the businesses and these are the independent ones. You can switch between independent and national that are have the most engaged post in terms of social media within this place. So these are the best posts here. And so as you can see, this one has 7,000 likes, a one and a half thousand comments. It's a giveaway. So again, if I was Ealing Broadway, I might want to be engaging with that post. The Gauntlet Fight Fight Academy. You've got the Ealing Grocer. So again, you know if these guys are already getting good engagement, that you're only going to be getting more reach and more engagement anyway because you're coming up suddenly and they're in their feeds. So anyone that isn't following you might start then following you and vice versa. They might be actually willing to then start going in and sharing your posts as well. Now, as always, if you've got any questions, please click on the little blue button. We love to help.
