In this tutorial, the presenter walks through how James Glenn Cars, a North Lanarkshire car dealer, dramatically increased Instagram comments (over 1000% lift) by repurposing a TikTok video as an Instagram Reel. The strategy combined a fun, personality‑driven on‑camera presentation, targeted automotive hashtags, and a subtle call‑to‑action that invited viewers to help the business test a new exhaust setup. The video’s success is illustrated with a dashboard demo that lets users compare their own content calendar with James Glenn’s recent posts, view ads, and extract ideas for their own channels. The overall message encourages marketers to experiment with cross‑platform video, use authentic brand voice, and leverage analytics tools to benchmark competitors.

Today we're in North Lanarkshire and we're looking at how a business uses TikTok videos on Instagram to drive engagement. This is James Glenn Cars and they buy and sell cars in North Lanarkshire and they've got a really strong Instagram and they tend to do a fair bit of static post as well as the odd video. And as always, video is king. And this post saw them achieve over 1000% increase in comments, aka engagement on Instagram. And what's great is that they used a video made on TikTok and uploaded it to Instagram. So it's a great use of the fun tools on different channels. Here we are.
That was not exactly a fair test. The black cars got an M performance exhaust, although we did leave the flap closed for the test. And the sunset launch cap, which is for sale, link in the bio is completely stock. So what we need is for someone to sell us an M2 with a standard exhaust and we'll do it again.
There you go. So what did they actually do here now? They wanted to drive people to comment more on their social media to get more likes. But because they usually get, sorry, a lot of likes, but they don't get an awful lot of comments, they normally get one or two. So in order to really come up and boost yourself on Instagram, you need to drive comments and video tends to do that. So they went into TikTok, they created a TikTok and the design behind it was, I guess, to show off their work, show what they do and appeal to their target audience who clearly love their cars, they know their cars well, they've got a passion for it. So this is directly at those people. They showed the people behind the business. So they showed him here. He's talking in a really sort of fun way about, about, I guess, you know, the test that they've just done. And again, it's to appeal because he wants somebody to sell them an M2 so that they can start from scratch and do the test again. So they've kept it really, really light, really fun and very much showing the personality behind the business. And they've also done some brilliant hashtags here as well. So really good hashtags to drive new people to their feed. So that's the MPower M2C exhaust, cold start cars, unlimited cars of the day. So it's all Instagram hashtags that their people, if you like, you know, their target customers are going to be following, which means they're much more likely to come on here and Watch one of videos. So think about what they actually did here and how they did it. So they kept it really simple, they kept it really fun. They understood their customer and they knew exactly what the customer would want to see from them, which is, you know, that kind of Top Gear style, you know, one car against another car. And then he's been honest and saying, well, actually the reason why we're doing this is because actually we want you to buy this car and we want you to bring this car in. So, you know, he's almost given a little call to action without actually giving one. And it really showed the personality. It showed the kind of person that you're going to meet if you go into their showroom. So I guess, what can you take from this? Well, it's all about trying new things. Try using the different tools available across the different channels to try and, you know, evokes, evoke more comments to try and get more people engaged in your feed. And you know what? You can never do it wrong. You can never do it. You never do a bad TikTok or a bad Instagram reel. The whole point is it's all about people trying new things and trying to boost your profile on social media.
