In this tutorial, the presenter examines how Bradford’s intercultural arts hub Kala Sangham boosts its social media reach by tapping into larger, relevant hashtags and tagging key community members. By linking posts to the high‑profile #CityOfCulture2025 hashtag and tagging acclaimed dancers and local artists, Kala Sangham attracts audiences who might not have known about them. The speaker expands the strategy, advising any business to monitor local and national events (e.g., marathons, charity runs) and incorporate those hashtags into their content. Additionally, the presenter demonstrates using the Navy platform to create groups (e.g., a “dancers” group) that aggregate posts from specific artists, enabling ongoing engagement—liking, commenting, and fostering reciprocal promotion. The overall message is that simple, context‑aware hashtag and tagging tactics, combined with systematic relationship management, can significantly increase post visibility and drive foot traffic to venues.

Today we're with one of Bradford's Green street pioneers, Kala Sangham, and we're looking at how you can build on what's going on around you to get more reach on social media. Kala Sangham is an intercultural arts hub which aims to reflect the diversity of contemporary Britain through the work that they present, the artists they support and the communities that they engage. As you can see, on social media, they are really, really popular. They get some decent engagement, they post all the time, and everything is always, always, always about driving people down to the venue. And what I loved was actually this post, because this actually got more engagement than some of their other ones and it seems to outperform. And I think one of the reasons for this is that they have linked up with the hashtag CityOfCulture2025, which is their bid for Bradford to become City of Culture. And what they've done is they have used the bigger hashtag and anyone that's following that hashtag is likely to have then seen them, which, you know, they might not have actually known that they existed before then. So you're coming up to new people. And then also what they've done is they have tagged in all of relevant people, so they've tagged in the acclaimed dancer and they've tagged in another one as well, another local boy as well. So, again, means that they're more likely to share it, which means that you're going to get more reach on your post. Now, it's really super simple. Any business can do this. It's just thinking about you, what's going on in your local area, Are there any national events that you can get to take part in? Are there any local events? Is it, you know, like, is there a race for life locally? Is there a marathon, you know, whatever is going on, what can you do to then pull that hashtag into your content and then what can you do to support it as well, to go one step further, because you're much more likely to reach more people and have your content soar. Now, if I was these guys, what I would want to do is to engage with all of the artists, the dancers, the theatre groups that you see here, because they come to the venues. What I'd want doing is making sure I support them even when they're not, so they're much more likely to come back. So what I would do is go to maybe platform and go to Engage, and then in here, what I can do is I can create a group so I can add in every single one of those dancers. Or groups and anyone else that I want I would call it that. So say dancers. So here I've used bike shops as an example. You then click on the group that you want to look at and then here you'll see these are all of the posts from all of that group that are there and it means that you can go in and you can like you can comment so it means that you know from that perspective of keeping the relationship going they could be in there and engaging with the dancer's content and the dance is more likely to engage back with them. It's going to drive more of the dancers fans back to their feed which is only going to be good. So it is it's just a really great way of engaging with people in a much more succinct and more efficient way using the Navy platform.
