How your captions can drive sales

Marlow Cheese Company used a Valentine's Day campaign with heart-shaped Manchego to turn Instagram interest into sales. Their caption tagged the shop location, announced farmer's market dates, and used emojis and a personal tone. The speaker recommends using local business filters to reach nearby shops' audiences.

Today we're looking at how captions can drive sales. So this is the Marlow cheese Company. They're funnily enough, a cheese company based in Marlow and they make artisan handmade cheeses in Buckinghamshire. So as you can see, they literally sell cheeses through their online shop and they physically down at their Marlow branch. So they really want to get people to come. But ideally what they want is to get people to physically come down and to purchase. But what they did was they kind of capitalized, if you like, on Valentine's Day. So they chose their special heart shaped cheeses, which I think are, yeah, they're so they're the sheep's milk cheeses and they created them in like this absolutely gorgeous sort of, it says crystallized texture. So they're a gorgeous red and they're Manchego love heart. So what they've done is they've created, they've kind of capitalized on a campaign or a theme. And then what they've done is they've used the caption to really, really explain in detail, I guess, you know, the love that goes into, you know, the making of the cheese. So it gives you, it's a direct focus for Valentine's gift ideas. The caption starts by telling you where they are. So they tag in the place so you know straight away where they are, are telling you to pop on, pop it in and say hi. They're telling you that they've got the two farmers markets that they're at and they're telling you when so that you can come in and you can pick them up directly. And they're saying that you can either get them for the likes of Valentine's Day or Mother's Day, and they've added in the emojis just to keep it really personal and really light and very, you know, very much feel of the love, if you like. And I think for me, the caption says more than you know, the image would make you go, wow, what's that? But to me, you know, that could be anything unless you're a massive cheese fan. Whereas it's the detail that goes into how much they obviously clearly love the cheese and love what they do, that would make you think, wow, I really need to stop by the local farmers market and pick this up for someone who loves cheese. So if I was these guys, I would want to be perhaps doing a bit more engagement in and around the places that I was going to. So if, for example, they were down at a farmer's market in Marlow, I would go to the maybe platform and I would go to location and engage and in here I would put in Marlo and then you toggle here to local. So these are all the businesses that are getting any kind of engagement on social media within Marlo and guess what if they are, you know, if the likes of you fit Drinks or the likes of Fuller Fine Jewelry, if people are you know are commenting engaging with them there's no reason why the likelihood is they're local people. No reason why that they wouldn't be interested in the Marlo cheese company as well. They wouldn't be interested in you know like coming down and popping along to a farmer's market for example. So the more that they comment and engage easily within this part of the platform the more that they're going to get more of the right eyes on their business.
