Good morning, everyone. I hope that you're all well on this Wednesday. My name is Donna Callender and I am here to talk to you guys all about social media. I'm here every single week. And every week we look at different case studies, we look at different trends, we look at different, I guess, tactics that are involved with basically making social media work for your businesses. And today what we're going to look at is trends. So by trends, what I mean is, you know, when you go into social media and you go into maybe Facebook or Instagram or something like that, and you see a thing and you see over and over and over again whether it's an image, whether it's a hashtag, whether it's, you know, like a funny video or something like that. And what I want to do is show you guys how some of the. Some of the ones over the last few weeks have been used by different types of companies and give you guys some ideas on how you guys might be able to do the same thing. So, as normal, if you have have any questions at all, just pop them in the Q and A and I will do my best to answer them as we go through. So today, one of the things we're going to look at, bizarrely might be is keeping up with the Kardashians and how it's always good content. So I'm going to go into some detail on a massive, massive trend that's happened recently. Yes, it's kind of because of the Kardashians, but I want to show you how different businesses have used it. So don't worry if you're not a Kardashian fan, it's okay. And if you are, then you'll enjoy this. Trying out different trending audios, filters, and I guess, graphics, that kind of thing, and how it can create conversations. So again, I'm going to show you something that was really big, wasn't meant to be for social, became for social, and how loads of different types of businesses have used it and how you might be able to do the same, then we're going to look at a trend on using content to develop content. So using existing content that's out there or making things look like content and how any business can use that, and then the national campaigns that are coming up as well. Now, one of the best ways of prioritizing which channels you should be using, one of the questions that I get asked on a weekly basis should be focused more on Facebook, should be focused more on Instagram. What should we do? And it is Actually, by learning from your competitors what your competitors do. Now, when you actually go into the baby platform, you can have a look at what your competitors are doing. You can look at hashtags to find other competitors. If you're not quite sure, you know who might be a direct one. So who else might be using, I don't know, you might be an equestrian business. Who else is using those equestrian hashtags? You might be mum and baby business. You know who else is using those hashtags so that then again, you can learn from what they're doing. The more you learn from what they're doing well and indeed badly, the more you can apply that to your business. So make sure you use maybe for that, because that is exactly what we do. It's all here in your dashboard. So get involved now. We do this because 79.1% of consumers in the UK spend over an hour on social media every single day and only 19% of businesses have active social media accounts. That's so huge and there's just a massive gap. So what we want to do is work with you guys to bridge the gap. And we do this because we help over 25,000 businesses get more out of social media. So we help you, as I just said, compare. So you guys compare your social media performance with any other business. We give you all the tools and insights that you need to use social media more effectively. So we've got AI now, which can actually literally help you physically write content. You just click a button and it writes it for you and it learns from you. So we've got amazing stuff going on there. We can help you look at other people's content calendar so you can look at their past weeks versus your week ahead and see, you know, compare and contrast. We can let you schedule in content now through. So I mean, we pretty much do everything all in one platform and then you get access to expert resources and training to help you communicate better. So you get access to likes of myself, you get access to an amazing team in the background as well. They're all there to help you get better at doing a thing, a social. We're going to get started with this. So this is Travis. I'm right. That's what I'm just going to call it. Right, that's what the campaign is. So let's click on to this was the. The og, if you like the original. Now if you don't know, Courtney Kardashian, if you've lived under a rock for the last, don't know, 15 years, Koi Kardashian is a member of the Kardashians, a family who are incredibly, incredibly influential in every way. And they. She basically did an announcement that she was pregnant with Travis Barker's baby at a Blink 182 gig. So basically, Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian are. We go. Travis and Courtney Kardashian are a couple and she was right in the front there and she did a big announcement there saying that she was pregnant. There you go. It went up on the screen. There we go. Everyone's rather excited. Looks lovely. Now, that's had 6.7 million people engage with that. Look at his face. They're coming down. I'm not put on the audio because, I mean, it would just be screaming. You wouldn't hear very much, guys. But look how happy they are. There we go. That is a very, very happy couple doing a very public announcement on social media. So we know Kourtney Kardashian, influential, Travis Barker again, part of an absolutely massive, massive rock group from, you know, like the last, what, however many years, 20 years or something like that. People know Blink1 it do. People know Courtney Kardashian. So any big announcement they're going to do is going to be huge. That is massive. Massive, massive, massive. Now, that was an original. So that was on a reel. That was huge. That had 92,000 comments. 6.7 million people engaged with that. That was on his page, you can imagine. Exactly the same on hers as well. So we're not going to talk too much about that. But basically that gave fodder for social media everywhere. This is the Little Dress shop. Oh, there we go. So this is the Little Dress Shop and basically what they did. So little restaurant shop, they're based in Richmond and they basically wanted to promote their business and they wanted to put their business on social media. So Little Dress Shop, the best enrichment. They mainly do quite a lot of, you know, like, I guess, you know, take images of their dresses and that kind of thing on their. On their Instagram. This one was basically. They just took a still, so it was just a public picture that was out there of just her. Travis, I'm pregnant. This is her. Loads of people, they're very excited and it just says Kravis, AKA the two together. That's what they're called. Giving us all the love with their pregnancy announcement pictures. The little shop. There's nothing little about it. And then they've done the hashtags. Now they have chosen to, as a small independent business, to congratulate the Kardashians. Now, they didn't tag them in. Probably a mistake. I would have probably tagged them in. But it's a positive in that they've taken a massive trend, something that quite a lot of their followers, AKA the little dress shops are going to be interested in because they're human beings and everybody loves a bit of pregnancy announcements and that kind of thing. So they decided to just do a little congratulations. So that's quite a small post, but it's nice because they've seen something that's trending and they have used their hashtags, which is great. And they. Yeah, they've just taken it and they've gone, congratulations. Now if it was me, I just some ideas. If you want to do something like this, you know, you haven't missed the boat on it. Everyone's still congratulating them. It's still a thing. This only happened the other day, so. Or the other week. Sorry. But if you wanted to. And you see, you have, I don't know, maternity wear. If you have any baby products, if you have any mummy products, if you are anything whatsoever to do with pregnancy related items, you should jump on this bandwagon because you can use it to go, oh, you know, we just want to say a very late congratulations to Kravis, whatever you call them, Kravis. And we also have some amazing products for any expectant mums or parents. And here's a list of them and tag in your products. It's something really simple, but that's what I would have done to kind of. Or it might be pregnancy, where it might be maternity where that kind of thing, you know. So there's an extra way that you could go around it. I also would have used local hashtags in here as well. They're based in Richmond. I would want to be promoting that. I'm an independent business owner, I'm based in Richmond, so I would have used hashtag Richmond, hashtag indie business or indie retail, that kind of thing. So it's just thinking about, you know, the post itself is good, good. And the fact that they've jumped on a trend is good because it's a trend that people are going to be interested in who shop with them. But it could make their post go a little bit further. This is new look, see the subtle difference here. So what they did was when you look obviously are the, you know, they're like the little dress shopping that they sell, you know, the retailer. But they are massive and they are all over the country and what they did instead was they created like a little carousel and they used it as an opportunity to have fun. So they created a little carousel and they changed the wording on here. So you can do this with any photo editing software, canva, anything like that. You can literally take the still and then just superimpose something new on it. So they kept the Travis part, but here you've got I wish my outfit was new look. Travis. I have that hashtag the new look feeling. So they're promoting their hashtag. Travis. I can't stop scrolling on new looks website. Travis, New looks social team is just so multi talented. So I really, really like that because they're taking the mickey, they're having a bit of fun. You know, they've created a carousel so you've got different options and you kind of flick through to see what they've chosen to do with it. Ultimately, they've kind of. It's. It's like getting a celebrity to promote your product without getting a celebrity to, you know, you're not paying hundreds of billions of pounds for her to promote your product. You're kind of just doing it through a bit of fun. So it is a really good idea. Now, loads of different businesses did things like this. It was just so, so good. And as you can see, a Kravis baby wasn't the only thing at court. Courtney Kardashe spilled the tea on this weekend. Hashtag of that new look feeling. Hashtag new look. People have loved it. Did you not notice her belly for announcements? Well, everybody was talking about that. To be fair, loads of people have commented on it. The second one. Ah, Travis. I wish my outfit was new look, but it is. Boohoo. Loads of people have got involved in the conversation. So that has had eight and a half thousand likes versus say 554 on this 1 versus 2, 3, 5 versus 169. That is because it's a trend. So make sure you're jumping on these trends. If you haven't done anything with this, this image is still everywhere. Feel free to use it and feel free to have a bit of a play with it as part of your business. My next one. So this is Pearl Cosmetics. So again, it looks like I'm showing you the same content. I'm not. I'm just showing you how one thing, one big event, one something, whether it's Wimbledon or whether it's the Kardashians, it doesn't matter. The fact is it's huge, it's influential, it's a trend. People are taking a still and you just use it. So here you've got. Have you heard the news? We now have free shipping on orders over 30 pounds in the UK and orders over 75 pounds, blah, blah, blah, blah. Thanks, Court, for letting everyone know. So they've done. Travis Perel has free shipping. So they've used it because, you know, it's a smaller company, but they've used it as an announcement. Use it as an announcement too, because the image is what is going to grab you. So everyone is suddenly going to go, oh, what are they saying? You then click on it and then you go, all right, okay, they've got free shipping. So it's just, again, it's really clever. You're using a big trend to make an announcement. You could say you've got new line of products coming in, you've got, I don't know, a new member of staff, you've got, I don't know, someone said a baby, whatever. You know, there's plenty of different ways to use it. But the point is, is it simple? It is content, it is trending, it's all over social. So we should 100% be using it. As you can see. Now that's some good marketing. You go, Pearl, nice edit. See, people have loved it. So that got 580 likes versus again, look. So that just shows you that's the only one that got more. But look, so out of the recent content, Kardashians attract likes, they attract engagement. So love them or hate them, it doesn't really matter. Big trends, big trending topics, big trending celebs, anything like that, as long as it identifies in some way, shape or form with your clientele, please use it. And you can literally take a screenshot of that, chuck it in Canva and have a little bit of a play around with it. Really, really easy. So other trends. Now, if you haven't seen this, let me see if I can show you. I'm hoping it starts. We'll see because it might be a little ad or something, so we'll just hold it for a second. If not, then I'm just going to go straight to the actual social media on it because it might take a second. YouTube sometimes takes a little minute. Basically this was from Saturday Night Live. I'm not going to go into the whole detail, but basically in Saturday Night Live they do a skit and they always get big celebrities in involved in the skit. So these are huge celebrities, they're in movies, they're comedians, etc, and this was Bill Hader and he is acting as the latest home entertainment system. So he's like a little person in a box and he is their home entertainer. Let's see if I can show you. Now, he's hysterical in this. He's very, very funny. And. And he does what I can describe it as like, very strange, fun little dance. There we go. Okay, so you get. You get the gist of it, guys. Okay, so that is from Saturday Night Live. And that was Bill Hader on Saturday Night Live. Okay, now this went viral. No, this was not designed as something that was supposed to be for, I guess, social media purposes. This was designed as something that, you know, just that would entertain the nation and entertain America. Now let's look at how businesses did it. So this is to the Moon uk, and what they did was they used it to have a bit of a play with announcements. So basically this is now his little dance has now been taken and used on social media. Let's have a little look. So it says, when payday is two weeks away, but to the Moon has a 50% sale. It is brilliant. So there he is doing his little funny dance. It has been super posed. It's like now part of Instagram. So anybody can use this as a little tool. And it's got all their little to the Moon products in the background. When payday is two weeks away, but to the Moon has a 50% off sale. And it's always the same audio. So it's this audio here. Now, to use this audio, you literally click on the audio and then you can see all of the reels that have used the audio. And as you can see, there they are. I mean, it has gone crazy. That's got 2,000 reels so far. Using this audio, you can choose to save it and you can choose to use it yourself if you want to. It's a great little audio, as you can see. It's super, super fun. And then if you start a summer sale now on 50 off, scented scents, nightcap, the bakery, blah, blah, blah. And can I see what filter effect this is, please? And then you go, candles. People have loved it and they're tagging in their friends as well. So, so good. Next one is Foot Locker. Massive, massive international business. Global business. And they have used the same filter or effect, if you like. Hey, go. Me going shopping after complaining about having no money. Let's just look at it. So again, they've used it for humor. It's just great to talk about anything exciting, but it's great to be a little bit cheeky. So they've used it as a kind of relatable joke about talking about something that we like but don't actually like paying for, like doing so. Me going shopping after complaining about no money. So think about how you could use this as a business. So could it be you saying that you're on a diet, taking a bakery and me saying that I'm on a diet, and actually I see a cake for the first time and you've just got all your cakes in the background. It could be you saying that, I don't know, like it's payday coming up, for example, or I'm halfway through the month and I'm still spoiling, urging. It could be me if you're a bar, me going. Me saying that I'm not doing anything this weekend. And then I remember that it's cocktail hour with my friends on Saturday, and it's just that. And then it's showing the cocktails in the background. Literally, any business could do something with this. So it is trending now. Use it. There's nothing wrong with using it. It's so, so good. Okay, now, finally, we're going to look at creating content out of content. So creating posts out of posts. So this is New Look. Now, what to show you. We've talked about New look before, but I want to show you a different way that they use marketing. So this got them again, I'd say I was pretty much up there with the Kardashian one, I think. And this, the idea is that these are pieces of content that are put out there. New look at basically taking the piece of content and then turned it into something that would be relatable for any of their customers. So here, Dan Reagan at Social Mime, my wife put parental controls on Netflix because I watched one of our shows without her. And then they put the New look branding on there. And I literally taken, you know, it's like a screenshot, essentially chucked it in Canva. Canva also now has those. Has these as templates, so you can literally write whatever you want, even if you come up with your own for this, rather than actually using someone else's, for example, you can just pop it in there. But here. So. So the idea is, obviously, you know, there's a whole couple thing as we know, where if you. Or even friendships, where, you know, you're all into the same show. And then if you skip ahead, then everyone's angry that you've skipped ahead. And it says betrayal comes in many forms. Hashtag new look, hashtag that, new, that new look. Feeling I like the mind of your wife very much. That's what New look, posting memes now, this will be you tagging in their friends. And why is this something we'd probably do? They've replied back, this is genius. You know what I would do to Paul, and that will be because Ellis watches programs without you. So people have gone nuts for this. Now. It isn't promoting you. Look, this is about engagement. The reason why people use these is because it is relatable. Most people have had a conversation about watching, I don't know, the end of a massive season of something. Game of Thrones, whatever it might be, might have been Breaking Bad back in the day. And someone has watched an episode ahead of you and people are about it. So it is just classic. So anybody could take something like this and use it, no matter what their business. So keep an eye out on these kind of memes and things like that, because they do work and any business could use this to be relatable. And you will get traction, you will get engagement from it because it is relatable. That's what it's for. So if they haven't seen it on new looks, they might see it on yours. Even if you're, you know, a small independent dress shop in Richmond, for example, that's one. And then another one is Boohoo man. So we feature boohoo on here probably quite a few times actually, because do you know what, their content's great, they're really, really good at social. But we focus a lot more on, I guess, the female one, because the female one do a lot more, I guess, focused on engagement, whereas the male one does tend to be more focused on the actual images. So here you've got thirsty Thursdays, part three, courtesy of you lot in our DMs. Now, what they did was they. They have obviously lots of DMs for people. And what they've done is they have turned the DMs that are funny into like a kind of like three part series of just showing basically the ridiculous DMs they have because they are a big band and they can take the mickey of themselves. And that's kind of the point. Now, I wouldn't recommend you all do this because obviously you might get DMs that are not designed to be funny. And actually, you know, people are being deadly serious. So, you know, you can be careful with these, but you could also make them up as well. So they've called it Thirsty Thursdays, I'd say a few lot in our DMs. Just to reiterate, for legal reasons, we cannot have. We are a brand account. We cannot give you relationship advice, although we appreciate the trust you put in this Instagram admin. So they're making jokes that people are PM ing them or, sorry, DMing them and asking them for relationship advice. So here's the first one. And what do I. What do I have to do to be a model for you guys? I'm good looking. Now what? So obviously they've covered up the image of someone. So if someone did send that, I just love it. If you need any help on your next influencer trip, I will hold the bags. Found this T shirt in my girl's apartment. Can you see who purchased this from the northwest uk? And then is it new stock? I love that. So the idea is he's not sure if the girlfriend is cheating on him or not, so hence the relationship advice. Can you confirm if my boyfriend was with a small brunette girl at the little TG party? He stood next to a girl in the crowd. On your Instagram, it looks like his ex. You can see pics of him on my page. Wow. If this is real, I absolutely love it. Can you give away a holiday for four to Ibiza from New York City, August time. 5K to spend. 5K to spend each. VIP tables, yacht party, private jet. For what reason? Because it would be nice. Do you know what that was? They're calling it Thirsty Thursday because it's. Well, thirsty means, you know, like you're desperate for something, you want something and you'll do anything to kind of get it. That's the kind of idea, you know. You're looking for fame, you're looking for fortune. You're looking for something. So you call. It's called Thirsty. I actually love that. And so they've made a little carousel out of it. It's great how many likes to take over your threads account for the day for legal reasons. No. Yo, boohoo. Transfer window is still open. Who are you signing? You need to stop working with something. He keeps DMing my girl. Please. Man to ban. Never heard of him. We're definitely not working with him. Why does he keep tagging you using hashtag ad clout? Do do it on your next post and we'll comment. Show him who's boss copying new clothes from you guys right now. I just love this. So this can go on and on and on. But the idea is they are taking, I guess, real conversations, real things that happen, like daft things that go on in the Background. It might even be in your business. You know, it might be. You could do this and turn it into a little series of, you know, like, silly questions that maybe a customer might ask or something. You know, what's the funniest thing you've ever been asked? It might be something like, you know, what's the funniest thing that's ever happened? It might be tales of, you know, your staff members or something like that. It could be absolutely anything that you use. But the idea is that you have taken, I guess, the real life that goes on and the crazy things that people do and say, because guess what, we're all human, we're all a bit crazy. And you've made it relatable and you've chucked it on social media. People have gone crazy for this. I absolutely love it. Okay, so there we go, guys. Sorry. Now thinking about all of that. Right, so we've just talked about the different trends, we've talked about Kardashians, but there's huge ones out there. There's new Wimbledon ones that are out there. There's film ones. Barbie is everywhere. We're going to talk about Barbie a little bit in the next one. There's loads of great stuff going on. Make sure you get involved in it. But guess what, there's other big campaigns that are coming up. So what we've done is we've inte this calendar into maybe for you guys anyway. But basically what we did was we created a social media content inspiration calendar where we've got all of the national days in there. So it's all like national days, like, you know, national dog day, national take your kid to work day. But then there's national campaigns and we actually did a big roundup of some of these. Was it last week or the week? No, two weeks ago, I think it was, guys. And if you want to go back and watch it on how to, you can use national content and national days and hashtags. Now let's have a look at the ones that are coming up. So we'll be going to August. So we have a list of all of them and you've got everything here with your like, so the name of it, the date of it, the content, the country. So if it's in the US or, you know, the uk, the kind of category it would be in the hashtag. So we've literally got as many things in there as we can. Let's have a little look. I mean, national mustard date, right? Okay, that might sound a bit random. Okay. But if You're a restaurant or anything to do with food and savory. Why wouldn't you do something about National Mustard Day? First Saturday in August is a celebrate National Mustard Day. It is a condiment made from seeds. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You could do, you could be a nutritionist that use, that does recipes. You could be, I don't know, a deli and you want to celebrate it, make like, I don't know, the most incredible sandwich. You could ask your customers to tell you what they, what would they spread mustard on and why. I mean, you might need to be a bit careful with that, but you know what I mean. You know, you get the gist, guys. It is about giving you ideas. So that's me off the top of my head, a couple of little ideas that you could do for National Mustard Day. It could be that you absolutely hate mustard and you use it as a, as a conversation starter. The point is, it is the most random, silly day and sorry for all you mustard lovers out there. I mean, I like it, but you know, I'm not going to celebrate it necessarily. But the idea is that it is giving you guys fodder, giving you content, is giving you ideas. And that's what it's for. Afternoon Tea Week. I think we spoke about that the other day. National Allotments Week. That's a great one. So I know loads of shopping centers that have like, you know, greenery and allotments and things like that around them. So you could actually partner with, you know, your local allotment and there's like little Trust and little gardening clubs and things like that. You could use it to promote. So say you sell anything gardening related. You could use National Allotments Week and the hashtags to promote anything you do. Gardening related. You could, you could actually use it as a way of partnering with someone. You know, you could partner up with another business, for example. So it could even be that you're a florist. And you know, you talk about the fact that you get everything from, I don't know, like locally sourced flowers. It could be more about equal. You might have eco friendly products that protect the environment. The allotments are part of the environment. You know, that kind of thing. International Youth Day, that's quite a nice one. On August 12th. So just when you thought that Universal Children's Day would be enough for the un, think again. It runs International Youth Day, which focuses on tweens and teens and their place in society. Now that's a good one because we do a lot of like big focus on children and adults. But the teens and tweens do tend to get a little bit forgotten about. So I think that that's a really positive one. So if you do anything with youths, if you are a school, you could do something with this. If you have, if you, I don't know, a bookshop and sell tween books, do something with this. You could do a campaign around it. You could do something mindfulness related around it. You could have an event around International Youth Day, you know, where, I don't know, you could get used to take over your Instagram for the day or your TikTok for the day or anything like that. You know, there's plenty of ways to do it. But the point is, is that these are national days that give you the opportunity to connect with a particular audience about a particular thing. They all drive engagement, they all drive reach, they all drive because they're topics. There are things that people are talking about on that day. So ultimately it goes feeds back into what we're talking about today, which is trends. So as I say, we give you guys all the tools that you guys need for making social media work for you. So you can schedule, you can do use advertising tools. And there's reporting in there, there's how to, we do training. So there's how to use, maybe on a Monday to social media basics. So how to do a thing on social. Wednesday is your weekly posts, which is me. Thursday and Friday are ads and advanced ads. And then there's always like on demand training as well as there's loads of videos that we create for you guys. They're only a couple of minutes long, but they'll help you get stronger at social media. So the key takeaways for me are anything Kardashian related is always good. Feel free to use it. I mean, look, they're just the gift that keeps on giving the Kardashians when it comes to social media. So honestly, just take it, take it, use it, run with it, don't be afraid to. They will connect with somehow with a member of your audience. Use trends to get involved in the conversation or base your own tech content around it. So thinking about Saturday live, I mean, you know, I showed you a little skit, it's absolutely fine. But the whole point is it's now turned into this huge, huge, real trend. So why not use it, go nuts, enjoy it, enjoy it. Be relatable and talk to people about real life to get them tagging. So by that I mean, you know, it is the Netflix, you know, like someone skipping ahead kind of idea. It is, you know, anything like, you know, like boyfriend, girlfriend, you know, related relationship stuff, friendship stuff. It's where people are in their lives and it's stuff that, you know, people can relate to. So 100 talk about it, use that, use that content and have a sense of humor. Social media is for having a bit of fun. It doesn't all have to be doom and gloom. It doesn't have to be serious all the time. You can have fun. So make sure you actually use some of this and some of the trends and some of the audios and things like that to actually enjoy, enjoy doing content. Because actually, you know, like our AI system now takes a lot of the pressure off of physically writing it and then the calendar takes some of the pressure off of coming up with what it might, you know, what the hook might be. So just enjoy posting it as well. So make sure you just set up your maybe account today and get started. Now get a free 14 day trial. So with the, with any account you get to go on and you get all of this. So you get, get the. So for example, you can have a play around with the AI system on content.
