In this instructional YouTube segment, the presenter explains how niche businesses can boost their social‑media visibility by strategically using seasonal and audience‑specific hashtags. Using the example of Category is Books, an independent LGBTQIA bookshop in south‑side Glasgow, she shows how a Halloween‑themed post combined with both seasonal (#Halloween) and community (#LGBTQIA) tags attracted high engagement and new followers. She advises businesses to think about what their target audience follows and to include relevant niche hashtags alongside broader ones. The video also demonstrates a practical method for discovering and engaging with other local businesses on the platform by searching for "Glasgow" and filtering for high‑engagement accounts, suggesting cross‑promotion opportunities. The segment ends with a call‑to‑action to click a help button for further assistance.

Today we're looking at how using seasonal and business related hashtags makes you more discoverable. Category is Books is an independent LGBTQIA bookshop and they're based in the south side of Glasgow. The team here got amazing engagement on this post. It was a Halloween based post, but the reason why it got so much love is not only just because obviously it's a cracking picture and they're talking about how this little pumpkin was a gift from one of the kids that likes to frequent the shop, but actually their use of seasonal hashtags here, such as Halloween, will have helped new followers discover them, whilst the use of their LGBTQIA tags appeals to their core customer. So any business can do this by showing the team behind their business and using a selection of amazing hashtags and acquire new followers. It's all about just understanding what your followers would be following, if you like. So if you are a niche business or you've got something particularly that you believe in, or it might be the style of business that you have, it might be the type of product that you sell, whatever it is, make sure that you are using all of those hashtags and then make sure that you're using other hashtags that actually appeal to your audience as well. Now, if I was category as Books, one of the things that I would want to do is make sure that I'm engaging with other businesses within the local area in Glasgow. So I would go to engagement engage on the maybe platform and I would go here and type in Glasgow and then I would type in, I would click local and then what this does is it comes up with all of the businesses in Glasgow that are getting really good engagement on social media. And guess what, if they are visiting Kew Gardens, then they might be interested also in category as Books. If they're interested in tartan travel, they might also be interested in my business as well. But it's just a really good way of engaging with other businesses, attracting new eyes back to your feed as well. Now, if you have any problems at all, please click on the little blue button.
