Why create your own hashtag on social media

Small businesses use branded hashtags to showcase customer photos and collect user-generated content in one place. A café chain can track mentions, repost customer posts, and run contests without digging through comments. Group related hashtags like #icecream and #cakes to monitor local conversations and watch competitors.

Today we're looking at why you should create your own hashtag on social media. As you can see, this is an absolutely gorgeous Facebook page. And these guys run multiple cafes all around, multiple ones. There's some, as you can see there in Cardiff, there, various other places, Ten Bay. But what they do on social media, they very much use it as a shop window. It's so that you can have a look and see, you know, what you might enjoy. They always show absolutely gorgeous pictures of their food. But one of the things you'll see is that they have their own hashtag, which is here. Now, why would they do that? Now, the reason why you would do that is because you would want. So if customers, you know, sometimes forget to tag you, if you encourage people to start using this hashtag, you can start to monitor the content. You can start to see who is using the hashtag, what content they're generating using the hashtag, and then you can start to share any of the content that comes up within that hashtag. The other thing you can do, let's click on the hashtag and I'll show you. The other thing that you can do is if you were doing a competition, you can monitor all the entries by using this, this hashtag. And to be able to see all the competition entries without having to sit and sift through hundreds of thousands of, you know, different comments and things like that. You don't have to sit and sift through a post. You can actually just monitor it like that through a hashtag. So it's a really good way, I guess, of, you know, measuring how much customers are talking about you is a good way of. Of creating engagement. It's a good way of also collecting customer posts as well. Now, if I was these guys, one of the things that I would want to do is think about, well, what other hashtags could we use, you know, within this sort of area, if you like. So I would go into the group setting within Engage on the maybe platform, and I would start to add in hashtags, and then basically what you can do is you can create a little hashtag group. So think what other hashtags would people get involved in if it was anything to do? It might be hashtag ice cream, hashtag cakes. It might also be local. So it might be hashtag cards of, hashtag Cardiff business, hashtag card of life, things like that. All those hashtags would then come up there, and then if I'm them, I then start to see all of the content there and I can start, go in and engaging with it. Because guess what? They're following those hashtags. They're much more likely to be interested in my hashtag. And it also helps me see what other businesses within my sphere, if you like, are doing by following those hashtags as well. Now, as always, if you've got any questions, click on the little button. You'd love to help.
