Is SW Steakhouse Worth the Cost? Dining at Wynn Las Vegas

In this conversational YouTube review, hosts Josh and Rachael revisit SW Steakhouse at the Wynn to see if the restaurant still lives up to the high bar set during their first visit years ago. They walk through the menu, noting steep prices for appetizers, steaks, and sides, and explain how they used a $150 birthday credit to offset costs. The video showcases several dishes: short‑rib ravioli, honey‑butter crab toast, a 40‑oz dry‑aged porterhouse (New York strip on one side, filet on the other), a bacon‑topped potato pavé, lobster semolina gnocchi, and a chocolate chip cookie soufflé dessert. They discuss preparation details, flavor impressions, and the steak’s sear, noting the steak was slightly overcooked compared to their usual medium‑rare preference. While they missed out on patio seating, they praise the service, ambience, and overall food quality, concluding that SW Steakhouse remains a top‑5 Las Vegas steakhouse and that the dessert may be the best they’ve had all year. The hosts encourage viewers to like, subscribe, and follow them on social media.

Hey everybody, I'm Josh.
And I'm Rachael.
And a couple years ago we came to SW Steakhouse and it was our favorite steak we've ever had in Vegas. Actually, ever.
I would say my favorite steak ever. So let's try it again. SW Steakhouse here at the Wynn. Let's go!
All right, we are kicking it off. You got specialty beers from 9 up.
Yeah, but that $19 one is like 500 mL.
It is a large beer. Well, one of them is a large beer, the other one's kind of small. And then curated cocktails, you've got at about $22. All right, rolling through the menu, you can see you could spend a ton of money on caviar. And then you've got appetizers that are up in the $30s, it looks like. $24 for a Caesar salad, upwards of— oh God, $50 and $64. I'm guessing the $50 is more of an entree size. Nice size for that ravioli. And over here you've got some nice expensive Wagyu. Seems very pricey. Not sure if we'll go that route. But over here you've got your more regular cuts, prime cuts that is. You got your steak starting around $84. Dry-aged porterhouse, which does serve 2, and it's upwards of $225. That was actually the steak that we got a couple years ago. I'm gonna try to put up on the screen how much we paid 2 years ago.
Good idea.
Yeah, because I bet you it wasn't $225. And then you get some 4/6 Ranch Steak. If you are a big fan of Yellowstone, that's what that's in regards to. You got some other main courses. The king crab and lobster are crazy price, but starting around $47 for other dishes. And then side dishes about $20 to $27. All right, so this is gonna be a test because the last time we were here, we had booked our reservation months out and we actually had an amazing table on the middle of the rail.
Yeah.
Out—
Outside where the show is.
And right now we're very far away from it. We booked this last night because we changed our plans.
Yeah.
This'll teach you to stop changing your plans last minute. But they said that they were not able to get us out on the patio. So this'll be a good indicator of whether the food actually matches up to the experience that we had the first time, or if it was just the experience that set the bar so high.
All right, another complimentary bread service. This is the second time this weekend.
Yeah, we actually got it at Sinatra as well, thank goodness.
Yeah, and both of these were repeat restaurants for us, but it's also because We tier matched over here at Wynn. There's a video on that if you want to learn more about how we did that. Um, but so we tier matched, we've got $150 credit, and when you get $150 credit for your birthday month, you spend it.
Yes.
Even if it's a little bit more, your bill's more than that, but you spend it.
Yeah, we are splurging for sure.
We are. Pretzel brioche bread.
Yeah, we ended up with some crab, some lobster.
Yeah, that's exactly as I remember.
Big old steak and some free bread.
Salty, buttery. Oh, I love that. Oh, warm. The bread or the butter's coats— the butter spreads nicely. And we're also having some big beers coming.
Yeah, big beers coming. We did go for the 500 milliliter ones, and here they are, the half liter. You can see there's still some in there. It is the world's oldest brewery, apparently.
I did just tell Josh, add to the bucket list, we're gonna have to visit the world's oldest brewery.
Let me cheers.
Cheers.
All right, short rib ravioli. This is the appetizer size, so I did find out that $25 is the appetizer size and $50 is the entree size. So you get double for the, uh, entree portion.
I mean, that makes sense.
Yeah.
And we don't need it, but they did say it's made in-house every day.
Cutting into that.
I'm excited to try this. There is some, I think, crispy pancetta on top.
Nice.
Oh.
Oh, you're coming apart there.
I didn't mean to, but then it's going to show you everything that's in there, and I'll eat this bite.
Okay.
Oh wow, that pasta is cooked perfectly, but the winner of that is That short rib inside of it, it's so tender. It just truly almost melts in your mouth. There's a beefy taste to it in that nice pasta. Oh my gosh, that's good.

All right, and our other one is crab toast, which I asked if it was like shrimp toast and they're like, kind of. It's like honey butter or honey toast with a lot of butter. And then a crab salad on top of it. There's a lot of crab on there.
And if you go back to look at our first video here, you will notice we did not do the same appetizers because we learned from our mistakes. So, and not necessarily mistakes, but we just chose a different route this time.
I think so. That was a huge bite.
It was a huge bite.
All right, so the nice thing, you can really taste the honey. There's a lot of butter in there. So even though it's a nice thick Texas toast, it's, it's not dry. So it's nice and moist, a lot of sweetness to it. But then you've got the nice beautiful crab on there. I think the biggest issue is it's really hard to eat in one bite, but I'm gonna do the best I can.
So maybe we should use our silverware.
Get out of here. All right, we went ahead and did the 40-ounce porterhouse, and Rachael is a New York fan, so if you haven't had a T-bone porterhouse before, New York strip on one side, filet mignon on the other side. And then we want the potato pavé.
Yeah.
We had something similar at Don's Prime Meat just a couple months ago.
Yeah, not too long ago. And it's, it's the way they cook it. They— it's very thinly sliced, baked, baked, baked type thing.
Stack, stack, stack, stack, stack.
I'm gonna start with that. It's a bake— I want to say it's a bacon potato pavé.
Okay, so there's some bacon on top of there.
Oh yeah, you can taste that bacon. I'm not sure what the sauce is, but the potatoes themselves are nicely cooked. I really like how thin they are. You can just see those layers.
It takes a lot of work to do this.
It is a lot of work.
And when we were at Don's Prime, when we were eating it, we actually— so they put a, uh, beef tartare on top of it, and we were like, this actually is a potato dish because the potato was the star.
Yep.
More than the beef tartare.
Agreed. So bite. Oh my God.
Best steak ever is what we're comparing this to.
Yeah, you can see this nice char on there. There's also some salt. I got that right away. The steak is cooked to perfection.
Perfection. Oh my! Yeah, the New York side looks perfect. It's so we did do medium with this because meat on the bone we've actually really been enjoying medium, so it gets a little bit more rendering of that fat and it gets all the way to the bone.
Yeah, we've had a we've had a run of steaks since we first had this one, and I've always compared all the rest of the steaks to this, and there's a reason. This is a damn good steak.
This was our first like mega steak we consider it. So it was our first like very expensive steak. You know, shareable.
It's so good.
Are we gonna have to wait until the end of the video to find out if it matches?
I mean, I should try the filet side, right? Yeah. To compare it for sure.
But first, I will. Yeah, I think it's good. All right, so filet used to always be my cut.
Yeah, that was your go-to when we first started dating.
Yeah. So I'm gonna go ahead and grab this, and you can see that the filet looks like it's a little bit more done than the New York side.
Oh, okay.
Now it is a bit smaller.
Yeah, that's true.
But you can definitely feel the crispiness on that. It's got that char.
Yeah.
You know, the good hard sear that you don't get a lot of times. And it's something that like a home cook, I think I struggle to be able to do it.
Yeah, it's got a nice, nice sear on there.
It's got a really nice flavor. Yeah, I mean, it's not overly seasoned. It is a fairly simple crispy. And by the way, you can hear the show is starting up over there. But I really enjoyed the filet side. We also got a lobster gnocchi.
That lobster gnocchi almost looks like lobster It does look like mac and cheese.
That's actually— I was surprised to see it.
Yeah.
It does not eat like gnocchi.
Oh, okay. Does it eat like mac and cheese?
It eats more like a noodle.
Okay.
Um, not like, not like, uh, the cheese from mac and cheese though. But I do think it's, it's really good. It just does not eat like the, the potato dumplings that you think of with gnocchi. It, it very much is more like a shell almost.
Okay. All right.
But it's good. All right, I do want to talk more about this. I did asked the waitress because I said this eats more like a shell noodle than, than a gnocchi that I'm accustomed to. And she said it's because it's a semolina gnocchi. And so that was something that we were not realizing, and I don't think it's necessarily bad, but that's why you're seeing that it looks—
It looks like mac and cheese.
Yeah, it— we were kind of questioning if they brought us the mac and cheese. Now there's very little lobster in there, but you can see a piece right there, so take that as you want. All right, we are checking out this dessert. We are quite full, so I'm not sure if we're gonna do it, but I see a couple really good things on this. So we like crème brûlée, we like panna cotta, we like banana cream pie. We love soufflé. Chocolate peanut butter dream might be good.
Yeah, but did you see there's a soufflé down there too?
What?
Chocolate chip cookie soufflé.
Oh my God. All right, I guess we're getting dessert. Here it is. Exactly what we were hoping it would look like. Thank you. Hey, somebody's birthday. Say happy birthday, Rachel, in the comments. So there you go. Say it's your birthday, you get a free cake. But I think you—
it helps we have birthday credit too.
All right, and since it's your birthday, you should probably get the first bite of that sucker.
God, we haven't had soufflé in so long, and it comes out looking like soufflé.
Oh my goodness.
Oh my God, yes!
It smells like a chocolate chip cookie.
It tastes like an underbaked chocolate chip cookie, which is fantastic to me.
Yeah, and there was like a vanilla crème anglaise that they pour into it. Oh my God, that's super hot.
I can't touch it.
So this is the view you get.
That's delicioso.
Yeah, looks delicious. Also comes with some vanilla ice cream. All right, a little good news, bad news situation here. Sometimes things don't live up to your memory quite as much. Yeah, let's talk steak.
Still the best sear on a steak I've ever had. It was delicious.
Um, I think we probably should have got medium rare. We used to always go medium rare, and I think people have kind of swayed us towards medium. We need to go back to medium rare. I think it was a little bit overdone, so it got a little bit dry.
Plus it comes out in a really hot pan, so it continues to cook. So by the end, there were some well-done pieces.
Correct. Yeah, the steak though, in the beginning especially, was delicious.
Yes.
Um, best sear in Las Vegas, best sear of my life. life.
Yeah.
So it, it'd be hard to say that it's the best steak ever, right? Which is what we claimed back then. Also, we've had a lot of really good steaks since then.
It's true.
But what we did find out is I think it definitely holds up. We called it a top 5 steakhouse in Las Vegas.
Yeah, absolutely.
Less than a year ago, and it actually still is.
Yeah.
I think that everything we had was great.
Agreed. It was— the service is The food is excellent, the room is beautiful. If you get a chance to be on the patio, that's an awesome, awesome experience. And of course, everything we tried was delicious.
Yeah, and I, I think that that was— it was something that we, we were still very hopeful we were gonna get out on the patio, and we didn't make it out there. Yeah, I do think that it adds to the experience for sure, but it's a good sign that we love the food. Yeah, even without the patio seating.
It may not be our top steak ever, but I will tell you that dessert was the best dessert I've had this year.
It was definitely the best dessert of the year. It might be the best dessert in Las Vegas that we've had. It's a chocolate soufflé with a, I believe, brown butter cookie at the bottom and then a vanilla sauce that they pour in there. You don't even need the ice cream. It is so freaking good.
Yeah, on the menu it's called a chocolate chip cookie soufflé, and it is worth Worth every penny. It is delicious.
Yes, and I actually think my favorite bite was the crab toast.
Oh really?
Yep.
Mine is that chocolate chip cookie soufflé.
