Las Vegas Budget Breakfast Battle

In this YouTube episode, hosts Josh and Rachael Fillbrandt undertake a "budget breakfast battle" at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, aiming to purchase two breakfast items for under $25 (pre‑tax and tip). They first visit Eggslut, ordering the "Slut" (a coddled egg with mashed potatoes, chives, and French bread) and the Fairfax sandwich (soft scrambled egg, cheddar, turkey sausage, Sriracha mayo, caramelized onions on a brioche bun). They discuss texture, flavor, messiness, portion size, and price (the sandwich costs $14, the total slightly over $25). Next they head to District Doughnuts (Block 16) and sample a spicy kalash biscuit sandwich (candied jalapeños, spicy sausage, cheese on a yeasty biscuit), a cheddar biscuit, and a crème brûlée cinnamon roll. They evaluate each item’s taste, bread quality, spice level, shareability, and cost (District items stay $2 under budget). Throughout, the hosts comment on their evolving palates, the messiness versus enjoyment, and the practicality of sharing the meals. They deliberately skip drinks to stay within budget, note the long wait times, and conclude that both venues offer distinct, satisfying breakfast options that can be shared by a couple, though each has trade‑offs in greasiness, dryness, and sweetness. The video ends with a call to action for viewers to comment on their preferred choice and to subscribe.

Hey everybody, I'm Josh.
And I'm Rachael.
And today we are doing a budget breakfast battle here at Cosmo. We're looking to get 2 breakfasts for under $25.
Is it possible in Vegas? Let's go!
First up, maybe the most popular fast-service breakfast in all of Las Vegas, I bet.
Yeah, it's quite a line to get in.
Yeah, it always has been. Seems like it always will be. We ended up going with 2 items to get our $25 here at Eggslut. So this is a Fairfax added turkey, and then this is the Slut.
Yeah, it's a coddled egg and I think mashed potatoes or something of that sort.
I remember we, we ate here like 3 or 4 years ago.
Yeah. And it was not our favorite.
Yeah, but times have changed.
Yeah, our palates have been a little bit more refined.
We've advanced.
Yeah, I guess I'll give it a try. I am really nervous I'm gonna make a huge mess.
It looks very loose.
It does. It makes me a little nervous how loose it is. Okay, I guess you just dip it.
Go. Oh God, that yolk looks good.
It does look good.
Okay.
Mm, all right, so eating it that way is pretty good. The bread is a nice French bread. It's chewy. But not hard, which you need it that way because it just is kind of a weird way to eat. But if you just dip and go straight in, you actually do get some of the potatoes and the egg.
It's very savory. Yeah, you have to dip pretty deep to get to the potato, it looks like.
It's very savory and the chives really stand out. I was hesitant to try this one because I knew we didn't like it the first time.
Right.
I'm venturing to say I like it.
It was— it's a super simple recipe. It's coddled egg, mashed potato, salt, and chives. That's literally all it is.
I actually really like it. I find myself wanting to go back for more. I don't know if I would eat it with a spoon, but I'm definitely gonna eat it with this bread they brought.
All right, and we got a sandwich, which this actually ran us a little bit more because we added the turkey sausage. So this is the Fairfax. So it's a soft scrambled egg, cheddar cheese, turkey sausage, Sriracha mayo and caramelized onions. I don't see the onions yet.
Maybe it's cooked into it.
Maybe they're cooked into it or something.
Yeah.
Oh gosh. Okay, the bun is super soft. It's a warm brioche bun.
Mmm, it looks good.
That's a good sandwich. Pretty greasy. The turkey sausage actually eats more like a pork sausage. Thank goodness, because I normally when I see turkey sausage, I hate it.
Yeah, he does not— he's not a fan of that.
No, and the soft scrambled eggs, it's So nice, airy, fluffy.
How can you taste the onion?
I just saw the onion there.
Oh, okay.
So it must have been at the very middle. I'm not tasting them a ton yet, but I hope that they're there because I'm pretty sure I paid for them. I'm gonna go one more bite to see if I can get to them.
It does look like—
Now you can definitely see that they're there.
Yeah.
But this sandwich is eating a lot messier than I was prepared for. I think it's delicious.
It's good.
Now what you're gonna see with Egg Slut versus District Doughnuts, this is it. This is $25 right here.
Yep, this is what you get.
Between these 2 items. So this sandwich alone is $14. It's good. $14 good? I don't know about that, but center strip, we don't have to leave the hotel. It's pretty good. I think we should swap.
This thing is messy.
It is a mess, which is good. I mean, it's a good big egg sandwich, and if you've been drinking in Las Vegas a bit A little bit of grease is not always a bad thing.
The soft scrambled egg is very light and airy. I like that the cheese is there. I do get a strong onion flavor on there.
Good.
And the pork sausage. The bun is nice. Is it special?
I don't know.
I mean, it's an egg sandwich for me.
Yeah, we did wait. It was 20 minutes to get this.
Yeah, so I mean, is it good? Heck yeah. Is it messy? Sure. Is it shareable? Actually, it kind of is for this size of portion. So There are some good things about it, but I'm not sure it just stands out in my brain. Let's see what Josh thinks of the coddled egg slut.
All right, um, yeah, it's been a long time since we tried this.
Yeah, you're dipping it. Yeah, good, all the way to the bottom.
I was thinking you— I, I wasn't sure if you got enough mashed potatoes, so I'm going with a hearty—
Well, on the second one, my fingers aren't that long.
That's true. Yeah. All right, yeah, I could change my opinion right now already. I think it's the bread. It eats like 2 buttery mashed potatoes. I mean, the bread is just a vessel for me.
Right, but I don't want to eat it without— with just a spoon, do you?
No, but I'm probably gonna because they only give you 3 slices of bread.
That's true.
But at that point, I'm just gonna eat it almost like a mashed potato. See?
Yeah.
I'm going as thick of a dip as I can. But I— the yolk is delicious.
It is. Do you get a strong chive flavor?
I do now.
Okay.
Yeah, like super buttery mashed potatoes, just enough chive, and then that egg yolk I think really like pulls it all together. This is better than I remember.
Me too.
Glad we're trying it again.
Agreed.
Now let's go see what we can get at District Doughnuts. If you're enjoying this video and looking for more Las Vegas restaurant reviews, be sure to hit that subscribe button. We have almost 200 restaurant reviews in Las Vegas alone. All right, over at Block 16 we have District Doughnuts, which the line is much shorter. And I think we're gonna be able to get a little bit more food. All right, welcome to District Donuts. I feel like we got quite a bit of food here.
Yeah, I'm so excited for this one because we've had it before and loved it.
We're keeping this closed because it's gonna get warm, or we want to keep it warm.
Yep. So, what, a biscuit sandwich?
Big old biscuit sandwich with what looks like homemade sausage patties.
It almost looks like an omelet on top of there.
And then this is a spicy kalash.
I know it has sausage and cheese. cheese in there, but I'm gonna cut it in half so we can look what it looks like.
It's supposed to be like candied jalapeños, a spicy sausage, and some cheese.
Yeah.
Okay.
That is soft. It looks so good. Oh gosh, it feels so good. Mmm, that bread.
There is cheese, right?
Yeah.
I can see it on this one now, like a white cheese.
Yeah, that bread is so, so tender. You can tell it's freshly made. That sausage has got a kick to it.
Good.
With the jalapeño in there too.
They do sell it as spicy, so I was hoping that it actually would be.
Yeah, it's actually spicy, so heads up if you're not a spice fan. I'm a spice fan, so I have no problems with it, but it, it hits you. It's a good one. I love how soft the bread is, but it's not overly heavy. I just wanted to taste the bread. Mmm, it's so well made. Like, it's very yeasty in a great way. God, I love that kalash bread. It's got a yeasty sweetness to it. I would eat that entire thing if Josh wasn't sitting here with me.
You might get to, because we'll see the cinnamon rolls shortly. You can see nice looking cheddar biscuit. I'm gonna try to center this a little bit. Oh man, I might need to cut this.
Yeah, that sausage looks homemade.
Yeah, it is a big biscuit. And like the omelet— it— I'm calling it an omelet.
I would call it an omelet too.
Because there's no way that that's just like one egg.
Yeah.
Check that out.
That's crazy.
All right, big bite coming. So obviously the big concern you have a lot of times with it is biscuits— are they too dry? It is not too dry.
Good.
Nice and moist. I really like the sausage. Really? Sausage, it's got more flavor to it, whereas the egg salad one, I thought it— I mean, it ate greasy and it had a nice crispy outside, but as far as flavor, I don't know that I got a lot from it. There's a lot of Spices and herbs in that, I think.
Oh, good. Do you know, was it a pork sausage?
No, this is turkey sausage also.
Oh, really?
And so that's the surprising thing for me, is just the, uh, increased flavor that you're getting here.
Okay, quite a—
Nice black pepper flavor too.
Okay, it definitely eats cleaner.
It is, yeah. It's not as greasy. Both are gonna fill us up though, I think.
All right, I'm gonna have to do like the Guy Fieri hunch to get this over.
The big hunch. Big bite. All right, so I did try the kalash or kalashi. Um, that has a lot more kick to it than I thought it would. And yeah, I actually really liked it. It's super simple but delicious.
You're right on the sausage. It is very herbaceous and flavorful. You miss the fact that it's not pork by being— I mean, you don't miss the fact that it's not pork by being turkey. I love the amount of egg in there, not too messy. And the cheese. The problem I'm having with the biscuit Besides, it's big. I still think it's an appropriate biscuit to meat and cheese and egg ratio, but it's probably— I'm having— it's not warm, and I want a warm biscuit. But otherwise, I think it's very good. I agree, it's not dry at all. It's really a tasty biscuit.
It's large, so it makes it a— it's a tough bite.
It's awkward to eat. I almost think I'm gonna end up cutting it and using a fork and knife. Yeah, but I really like it. I like that it's not messy too.
That helps.
Okay, you may know You'll notice on both of our places we didn't pick up something to drink. We're both fans of coffee, and I'm saying why we didn't pick up something to drink. Yesterday we picked up lattes over at the Juice Standard. 2 lattes with one of their juices was $35. So that to me is not a budget battle worthiness, what we're trying to do here. We just simply went for food. There are coffee options here at the Cosmo that you can add. But know you're going to be paying for them as well.
But also, not everybody drinks coffee.
Yeah.
But everybody should eat a cinnamon roll. Do you want to kick us off there?
Yeah, everybody should eat this cinnamon roll in particular.
So this is a crème brûlée cinnamon roll, which I did actually catch her, uh, brûléeing it. Yeah. Oh yes.
Yeah, because it's ginormous. Definitely shareable.
Yeah, I don't know that anyone should eat this by themselves, but I'm sure some are willing to try it.
I mean, diabetes, hello.
I don't have diabetes though.
No, but you might after eating this whole thing by yourself. Mmm. Just as good as I remember. Nice crème brûlée top. A very sweet savoriness piece to that bread mix. It's not overly sweet, but if you prefer a sweet option to the savory options we've been showing you, This should be the savory option or the sweet option you're getting. This is amazing.
Is it warm?
Mm-hmm, it is warm. It's very, very good.
All right, perfect. All right, just wrapped up. Under $25 is tough.
It is.
Eggslut, we actually went 50 cents over, and at District Johns, we went $2 under.
Yeah, so not bad.
Now this is all pre-tax and tip, but I will say I think that both options were ones that a couple could probably share.
Yeah, I think so too, because I'm stuffed. Absolutely stuffed.
Very stuffed.
Yes.
I think the biscuit sandwich over at District Jones ended up being a little bit dry.
Yeah, by the time you got through even just the half that we were sharing, or that my half of the sandwich we were sharing, it just needed something— a gravy, an aioli, something to kind of tie it all together.
And then the egg slut sandwich, it just, it was greasy, it was messy.
It was heavy. Yeah.
Like both of them, they were both good but different, very different styles.
Absolutely. And shareable.
Yeah. Now the kalashi, I think was a good size.
Yeah.
I think that the slut was a good size.
Yeah, I agree. And I think they, but of course they were the cheaper options as well.
Yeah. Well, let us know down below which option you would pick. Or if you would combine them in some weird Frankenstein way. If you're enjoying our videos, don't forget to hit that like and subscribe.
