NEW CHEAP Breakfast Diner in Las Vegas | Winnie and Ethel's Downtown Diner

In this YouTube vlog, hosts Josh and Rachael Fillbrandt visit Winnie and Ethel's, a newly opened breakfast‑and‑lunch diner in downtown Las Vegas that won a $1 million prize from the Great Las Vegas Coffee Shop Giveaway. They introduce the location (near Hunt Ridge Plaza, Yukon Pizza) and note the 1940s roadside‑cafe theme. The duo samples several menu items: biscuits with peppery country gravy, a malted waffle topped with maple butter, a chicken‑fried (country fried) steak with over‑easy eggs, hash browns, and classic milkshakes. Throughout the tasting they comment on texture, flavor, portion size, and price, highlighting the 25‑cent coffee with unlimited refills when an $8 entrée is purchased. Service is described as “amazing,” and the ambience includes quirky coffee cups (e.g., Wizard of Oz‑style). They estimate the total bill at about $62 for three entrees and two milkshakes, deeming it a great value. The hosts conclude with a strong recommendation, encouraging viewers to visit, try the chicken‑fried steak, and engage via social media and an Instagram poll about future menu items (malted waffles vs. pancakes vs. French toast).

Hey everybody, I'm Josh.
And I'm Rachael.
Come along with us as we try out Winnie and Ethel's. It's a new breakfast and lunch spot here in downtown Las Vegas.
The Hunt Ridge Plaza area, right next to Yukon Pizza, if you've ever heard of that.
Yeah, and they actually just won like a million dollars to build this restaurant from the, the Great Las Vegas Coffee Shop Giveaway, I believe.
Yeah, that's pretty cool. We're excited to try it. One of the coolest things we're excited for is 25-cent coffee, unlimited refills with the purchase of an $8 entree. And you know us, we're gonna get an $8 entree.
Let's go. So this place is inspired by a 1940s roadside cafe, so very old-school menu, but looks like classics that you're not gonna be mad about.
And they also do sandwiches.
We're hoping to get breakfast though.
Soup sandwich for lunch.
I'm gonna get a breakfast sandwich. Kind of stuff. Oh, and back over here, there's that coffee Rachael's talking about. We got enough to feed a family of 4.
I'll say. I think we over-ordered. Surprise, surprise.
We did. But the waffles are It's a little thinner than we were kind of thinking, so I think we're gonna definitely make it through this.
Yeah, I always imagine like a Belgian waffle, and that to me reminds me more of like a Waffle House waffle.
Yeah, we'll find out. It's a malted waffle though.
I've never had malted waffles. It is a malted waffle with its own maple butter.
Maple butter, yeah, that's gonna be exciting to try. But we're gonna go ahead and start off with these biscuits and gravy. I'm a sucker for biscuits and gravy.
And you know what I can already tell that is gonna be a favor for you is the amount of gravy.
Yes, there should always be too much gravy because I'll use it all.
And there's no such thing as too much gravy.
It's good peppery country gravy. The biscuit is nice, light, fluffy, not dry. If it was dry, thankfully there's plenty of gravy to make sure it goes well.
He must like it. He went for a second bite right away.
I did. I don't always do that. Yeah, there's a really nice crispy edge on the, on the biscuit outside too, which you still get to eat that. You still get the bite, which is good.
And not too peppery, not any of that for the gravy? Perfect.
Okay, that's gonna be good.
Okay, you gotta go to the next one, baby. All right, I know you want to keep going on your biscuits, but—
I do, but this is exciting looking.
Yeah, the malted waffle is the exciting part for me. Yeah, because I love like the malt flavor.
I do, I do too, but like we were just talking to a friend the other day, like I haven't had malt For a long time. Which definitely goes along with the old-school style that they're going for, like a 1940s vibe.
Yeah.
Which in my mind I'm like, I don't even— you don't ever see anybody do 1940s. It's like '50s, '60s.
Yeah.
The, I don't know, like the poodle skirts and stuff.
I will say too, so far the service is amazing.
Yeah, so far really good. And the coffee, it comes There's like— everybody gets different coffee cups.
Yeah, it's really kind of cool. Like, we have a Coca-Cola one and some kind of— it looks like Wizard of Oz, maybe?
That's what I'm thinking too.
Yeah, I'm gonna go with brainy Wizard of Oz. Yeah.
All right, let's go ahead and get a bite of this.
That poured like syrup, so that's exciting. It does.
It looks thicker than it is.
That's gonna be a big bite.
Should I probably not eat all that?
No, you can do it. You— I, I have faith in you. You can do that.
All right, I'll do 2 of them at once.
Okay, still a big bite. You did see that maple butter kind of dripping down. It is— it looked a lot thicker before he, um—
It did. It almost looked like a frosting. Yeah, but no, that's delicious. You do get a little bit of that malt flavor, um, and the— yeah, this— the fact that it is not as thick as it initially looks.
Yeah, that's impressive.
I think it's delicious. It's nice and sweet, so it'll go really well with our 2 savory dishes as well. All right, this ain't our first rodeo, and this ain't our first time getting a country fried steak.
No, I love a country fried steak. That already— you can tell it's a nice crisp batter on the side of it.
Oh dang.
Um, I can just tell that by cutting it, so I'm really excited to try this. It also comes with 2 eggs your style.
Yes.
We went with over easy. Oh my gosh, for a country fried steak, that has a perfect battering on it. Very light and crispy on it. I love the gravy, but it's also very tender. Sometimes I think country fried steak can be very chewy.
I can see that.
And it's not. It is like very good. I love also the crisp on the hash browns. I don't usually eat a whole lot of hash browns, but it has a nice crisp on it. I can already tell.
And it's a lot.
It's a— it is a big portion. Yeah, like, and that's a big portion of eggs and like Yum, yum. Mm-hmm. I can't tell you that seasoning is just perfect on that batter.
What do you think about the gravy? Because I think it's the same gravy as on the biscuit.
I'm with you. Perfect. Has a nice pepper on it, but it's not overly peppery. It's nice and creamy.
Yeah, it's got some body to it too.
They put plenty on there, but it also didn't take away from the batter, which is what I really like. And of course, Eggs, guys. So I'm not gonna try those, but I do want to take a bite of this waffle as well because I'm with Josh. I love a good waffle. I will always choose a waffle.
Yes.
Wow, I love the crispy edge that you get.
By the way, we did put up a poll on our Instagram to see whether people would do malted waffles, pancakes, or French toast.
I really like that.
Let us know down below which one you would pick.
Yeah, that's It's very— it's actually a lot lighter than I was expecting a waffle to be. I'm with you. I love the maple butter.
It definitely has more flavor though than a simple Waffle House.
Yeah, but it's not overly sweet.
No, it's not.
Mmm. And the crispy edge. I think this is a perfect start.
Yeah.
If you haven't been here yet, you need to find a way to get here. This is tasty.
It's about a mile and a half from Circa. We walked it. So if you're anywhere, I'd say Fountain Blue or north, or even Resorts World or north, it wouldn't be that bad with an Uber if you want to do that. But we're gonna dig in.
Classic menu, so it's many options for you.
Lots of good stuff.
All right, when you come to a diner-inspired restaurant, you have to get a milkshake, and there's always room for ice cream, right?
And it is malted milkshakes.
That's true.
And you can see Rachael does not do the whipped cream.
I'd prefer no whipped cream.
But she went with a chocolate one. I went with a vanilla. Vanilla one. Looks like a nice classic one.
And this place has picked up. Holy cow, it's busy in here now.
This is on a Thursday around lunchtime. Yeah, so come check it out.
Oh, that was good.
That was really good. Yeah. Um, all that for under what, like, I think it was $62.
$62, and that was with 2 milkshakes. So we could—
2 milkshakes, 3 entrees. Yeah, that was a good deal.
And 2 cups of coffee that were truly 25 cents. Yes.
Um, I thought that was awesome.
Yeah, best bite, Josh?
Best bite was that chicken fried steak. That was It's bordering on one of the best chicken fried steaks I've had ever.
I agree, it was so good.
Yeah, um, very good gravy that went with it, the crispiness on it. The— it was a cube steak, so if you're wondering what that was. Um, overall, I thought it was an awesome thing. I definitely say you should hit this up.
Yeah, try this place out. It was delicious. Highly recommend. Yes.
