Our Dim Sum Feast on the Las Vegas Strip at Washing Potato

Josh and Rachael Fillbrandt taste dim sum at Washington Potato in the Fontainebleau on the Las Vegas Strip. They sample walnut shrimp, pork-and-chili wontons, soup dumplings, and a bourbon-watermelon cocktail. The food is pricier than off-strip spots but worth it for the quality and convenience.

Hey everybody, I'm Josh.
And I'm Rachael.
And today we are trying out dim sum here at Washington Potato at Fontainebleau.
The inside looks fabulous. Let's hope the food tastes just as good. Let's go.
All right, welcome to Washington Potato, which, uh, this looks like a food competition, honestly. Look at the lighting over here. I feel like I'm on a TV stage.
Yeah, 100%. I love it.
Very cool. Um, go through the menu real quick. We are looking to do dim sum, so keep that in mind. And sorry about the banding of the stuff. The lights is weird.
Does this help?
Maybe.
Okay.
Uh, there's a prix fixe menu. We are not gonna do that. We're gonna go off menu though. So beverages are about $20. Beer is $10.
Looks like decent size— I mean, decent beverage selection.
Tea is $6 per person. Not a big tea person myself though. All right, over here we're gonna see some of the appetizers. You're looking at $12 to $20. Noodle soup, $21 to $28. Here's some dim sum. You're looking at in the $11 $7 to $12 range for the most part, it seems. We're gonna probably stick to that piece a lot.
Yeah, I think so, except I'm really hungry, so it's— I'm probably gonna over-order.
Well, that's okay, we can get a lot of it.
It's true.
Um, and then you can see you can even get— I like that you can get a half a duck.
I know, that might have to be something.
Yeah, because sometimes you don't want the whole duck for $100, so $48. This is pricey, but this is on the Strip, and so if you're not looking to go over to Chinatown— hi there! And we are joined today. Look at this guy's shirt.
These guys.
All right, I don't think I'm gonna let my wife dress me again, 'cause look at this guy. Yeah, sport off, Rachael.
I think that was planned.
All right, here's the mains. You're looking at $28 to $30-something. I don't know how much we're gonna end up doing that stuff, but you can get some fried noodles, some rice, some vegetables, as well as some desserts. We'll probably get a good variety, I think. And we are joined by some friends today. This is Seeking Vegas Sunrise. Check them out if you're interested in daily Las Vegas vlogs. Let's do it. Let's eat.
All right, I went with Forgotten Moments. It looks like it's kind of creamy.
It looks like a marshmallow on top of it.
Nope, it's whipped cream.
And I did a bourbon-based drink. Seems like an Old Fashioned of some sort with watermelon and vanilla bitters.
Yeah, this is very creamy and light. It's creamy.
Okay.
Like very creamy. I can't tell you what the tastes are.
So milk?
Yeah.
Like a watered-down milkshake.
It's very good. I can't— there is pineapple in there. I can't distinguish the flavors, but it's super creamy. So weird.
All right, all right, I'm trying.
It almost looks like you're drinking out of a bottle.
Yeah, I don't really know what to say that is. I mean, it's super easy drinking.
Yeah, I know you were like upset with me for not explaining it, but I don't know.
I don't know. I know that this has bourbon. Yeah, it has some watermelon flavor and some vanilla.
And it has a passed-out gummy bear on top.
Yeah, the gummy bear fell below because it's strong alcohol flavor.
Look at your face.
But it's good. It'll be good.
It does have a pineapple taste in there, and it's good because there's pineapple in it. So there's Belvedere vodka, Luxardo maraschino, lime, pineapple, heavy cream, egg whites, soda water, and grenadine. So it's like a rainbow. You're like, this is what a rainbow should taste like.
You would think that would be like heavy cherry flavor or something though, but it's not.
No, it's so bizarre.
Yeah.
God, that looks so good.
All right, this is a cucumber salad. That looks like some mushroom type thing on top.
Yeah, you probably shouldn't eat the mushrooms.
I won't eat that part, but the green looks good. Cucumber salad.
I am going—
We are starting with a green, and I don't know that we have any more vegetables after this.
True, and I'm gonna go with the mushroom bite too. Mmm. Okay. Cucumber's nice and crispy, crunchy, but there's like this umami bomb flavor.
All right.
And there's a little bit of heat. It takes a minute to kick in. That's gonna be a nice palate cleanser in between. Don't eat the mushrooms.
All right, next dish is the char siu barbecue pineapple— no.
Pineapple bun.
Pineapple bun, yeah. So there should be some barbecue pork inside there. All right, so I believe that there should be some barbecue pork inside here with a nice little pineapple-looking custard on top. Ooh.
I'm anxious to see that because I love those kind of buns.
Yeah, so you see there's some good barbecue pork inside there. It's nice and sweet. It is a baked bun, so it's not like the steamed bun. I think we'll love this, and, uh, yeah, why not? Next up is a pan-fried turnip cake. I think we're gonna have to try some chili sauce on this one. It looks good though. Rachael's gonna take this one and we are doing a little bit of the spicy chili sauce, which has some shrimp in it. So if you're allergic to shellfish, you're not gonna want to watch this one.
Yeah, but they did ask us right away if you could have it or not.
Yeah.
Wow. Mmm. It's cooked so hot, but it's got a nice crisp on it. I don't know what the flavor of turnip cake is. I don't know if there really is a flavor.
I would say it's flavored like turnip.
Yes, but the standout is having That chili sauce on it.
It does look like there's a little bit of pork inside there as well.
Is that what that is?
Yeah.
Oh, that's good too.
Nice. Yeah, pork and chili wonton just rolled out. All right, pork and chili wonton, you can't go wrong, right? I'm assuming it's gonna be pretty spicy because look at this sauce. Oh wow, that is a nice deep red. Yeah, I'm gonna just go one bite here, and luckily I've got some cucumbers still.
I do think the cucumbers are necessary to cleanse the palate in between. Is it hot? Like cooked hot? Must be cooked hot. Very cooked hot. Yeah, I did see the steam rolling off that one too as we were coming through.
I think it's delicious. The wonton wrapper is nice and thin. Pork, nice cooked hot. It has a really good pork flavor.
Good.
I know that sounds weird, but it tastes great.
That's the hard part. Yeah, that's the hard part with dim sum though, is like you're looking for that one specific flavor when Ordering these pieces, and the the heat on that chili it does linger.
So if you're not a hot spicy person, probably not gonna like it. But we love heat, so bring it on.
What do you think about the turnip cake? Have you had a chance? Love it.
Yeah, yeah, I love that thing. All right, next up is a pan-fried shrimp and chive dumpling. Who's up next? Me or you?
I think it's me.
All right, grab one of those. You gonna add a little bit of chili?
I'm just gonna try it on its own first.
All right.
Because everything's so freshly made and prepared and comes out, I just want to try it on its own.
Yeah, if you can't tell, we ordered like half the menu.
Oh wow.
Yeah, we got a lot more coming.
The chai flavor really comes out on that. The outside skin is very thin and really— but the cool part on there is that fry. It adds a nice texture that you really need in there. The, the— again though, the Chive is the standout flavor on this.
Heck yeah!
Good.
All right, next dish up, crispy pork.
It is served with some spicy mustard and five-spice, right?
I'm gonna go ahead and just try— do I just pick it with my hand? Probably?
Finger it, Josh. Yeah.
Finger it.
Salt bae that puppy up.
And I'll dip it even. I'll do it as they give it.
Oh, it's banding because of the weird lighting in here.
That's how it works.
Okay. That one is served on a super hot plate. It must be super hot.
No, I don't like that mustard. Oh my God, horseradish.
Like, like worse than St. Elmo's cocktail sauce?
Well, I at least knew to expect it.
Oh, okay.
This I did not.
So the mustard is not— Josh is not a fan of the mustard. Not my style. Do you want to try it without the mustard this time? You should try it again.
I will say I still notice like How crispy that skin is.
Good.
Super crispy. Uh, that pork really melted easily. Yeah, the mustard way overtook everything.
Okay.
Yeah, I'm gonna go just like that. I think it was delicious.
Okay.
All right, I'm jealous of Rachael because she gets to do the walnut shrimp, which is huge.
But I don't like walnuts, except I will eat it in walnut shrimp. But these shrimp, huge.
Like, yes.
Check that out. Okay, I'm just gonna take a bite of it.
That looks so good.
The walnut's hanging on there.
You ate it right in the middle. I was waiting for it to fall on your plate.
I love how everything's served so hot and fresh. That's one of my favorite things. Sauce kind of has a mayonnaisey texture, but it's really tasty. I don't, I don't taste any overwhelming flavors, and the walnut is candied. Right, which makes this perfect. Like, this is one of my favorite dishes.
Tempura shrimp, which the shrimp looks really big.
Meaty, hot, fresh, just enough fry on that shrimp to make it stand up to that mayonnaise sauce. And I'm not saying mayonnaisey in flavor, but mayonnaisey in texture.
And this was the only one that we ordered off of the main entree, so that's why you're getting a little bit bigger plate on this one.
Yeah, it's really tasty.
The dim sum is out. We got 5 dishes that just rolled out.
It came out so fast.
It did. So I'm gonna go ahead and start with the shumai, which is gonna be a pork dumpling, pork soup dumpling. They recommend go ahead and do that. Bite the top off.
They came out so steaming hot too.
Let the steam go a little bit. Then we will pour a little bit of this sauce.
What is that?
I didn't hear it, but I think it's like a soy sauce, but somebody please correct me in the—
With ginger, right? Or something like that in there?
I'm gonna just go for this.
I figured you would. I'm just waiting. I'm headed on your face for that.
All right, let's do this. So there's gonna be soup inside of it.
It usually—
oh, I actually did drink some of it.
Did you?
It's delicious.
It comes out super fast, but they're nice and pacing it for us, so it works too.
That's awesome. If you're a big fan of Din Tai Fung, you can actually stay on the north end of the Strip and go ahead and pick it up here. I think it's awesome.
Good.
This next one, I like to cheat. So this is your pork and shrimp dumpling.
Did you just poke it?
Heck yeah. Don't overthink it. With chopsticks, you don't always have to be perfect.
And we are liking that spicy chili sauce that they came— brought in. That's good Mm-hmm.
It's delicious. The shrimp actually stands out more than the pork even.
Oh, good.
Which is kind of surprising to me.
Yeah.
But I always like to dip it in some chili sauce. Awesome. You got 3 more. All right, this is the final bit. We have 3 more dim sums, and Rachael is kicking us off with squash and pine nuts.
Yeah, and she said to let this one cool but not get too cold because there's some sticky rice paper dumpling on there.
Yeah, it looks a little bit thicker than some of the other rice paper.
Yeah, and I know you're not supposed to probably use a spoon, but it was really stuck to the paper, so it's easier for me. Okay, so there's a sweetness of that, um, squash, but there's chunks in there.
I was expecting it to be like a puree.
I was too, and it's not. But then you can also see there's pine nuts in there. The interesting part to me is this rice paper. It's a little chewy, but not in a bad way.
Nice.
Uh, but I can see how if it gets too cold, it's going to be sticky.
Yeah, it does look thicker than most of the dumplings.
I do like though that the And I'm hoping to get that out. Like, the squash is chunked up.
Yeah.
Which makes it work really well. Good, good bite. All right, scallop one?
Nope, this one is all shrimp.
Okay, all shrimp. I'm just gonna do the cheater way. Josh said I can.
Oh man.
Great shrimp flavor. Very nice. Fresh. Again, cooked hot. You're good to go.
Oh, straightforward shrimp.
Straightforward shrimp one. This is a scallop one.
I think this is our last one.
It looks like salmon roe on top. Is that right?
Uh, you're trying to be all fancy.
I was trying to be fancy, but that's not gonna work. Okay, we're gonna do it the easy way.
It looks probably almost like it's just the shrimp and pork dumpling underneath with a slice of Again, it's very delicious, fresh-made.
You can't go wrong with dim sum.
All right, we just got done with Washin' Potato.
Man, it was good.
That was really good. What was your favorite bite?
Walnut shrimp.
All right, walnut shrimp was great. Yeah, I like the barbecue pork bun that had the pineapple thing.
That was good. It was the— I think Anthony from Seeking Vegas Sunrise said it best, it was like a pork donut.
It was really good. Uh, big thank you to Anthony and Christina for joining us so that we were able to eat so much food. And yes, we ate everything.
Between the four of us, yes, we ate everything.
It's a bit expensive for dim sum. You could probably get a better deal if you went over to Spring Mountain. But if you're like us and you don't always want to take a car somewhere, I thought it was great.
Absolutely. I think it was well worth it. And one of my favorite parts is the atmosphere in there.
I love very cool.
Love the interior.
