How to choose a Mentor ? #mentorcloud #growth #guidance #thoughts #mentor #wisdom #networking

Dr. Ravi Gundlapalli advises how to attract and engage mentors: present a compelling mission to create curiosity, then request a short (e.g., 15-minute) conversation to get specific guidance. Also emphasize being 'mentorable'—showing willingness to learn—citing a video by former Pepsi leader Indra Nooyi as an example resource.

When you go, when you find someone who has the domain experience you're looking for, they are in a position that you would like to be in a few years from now. They have the personality and the charm that you always admire. Then a lot of times when you go to such people, they might say they're very busy right now. They may not have the time. Now when somebody says they're busy, what they're actually saying is they don't find the time that they're spending with you or they might spend with you worth it. So in my book again, in the book Art of Mentoring, I always say the first time you meet someone as your role model, as your potential mentor, don't ask, just make them so curious. When I go to my these people, I say, hey, I'm on a mission. I don't even tell my name. I'm on a mission to impact 100 million people. And I've chosen a cause that I can make a huge impact using technology. That's it. I want my mentor to say, who is this guy? I want them to be curious. I want them to remember the words of inspiration, the words of curiosity. And when I go and say, hey, John, it was wonderful meeting you in the conference. John should remember what I said. Yes, Ravi, I remember. You are the 100 million guy. I've had people say that. Now I have their attention. Now I tell them the journey I am on and what I'm looking for. And the next thing is I'll ask for 15 minutes. Now that they are sold on the inspiring work I'm doing, they will give me 15 minutes. And in that 15 minutes, I pick up one or two areas that I'm really struggling because we are now connected on the mission. So selling yourself, your.
Cause, create the curiosity and let the mentors come to you. And there is a beautiful video by the former CEO and chairwoman of Pepsi, Indra Nooy, where she talks about how to be mentorable. She said, at Pepsi, people would come, can I be your mentor? Why? Because they know Indra is like a sponge. She is willing to learn and to grow. And as mentors, we want to spend our time with such people. So you want to be mentorable. And Indra's video would also be a huge resource.
Sam.
