AI gets rebranded depending on who's listening: "artificial intelligence" for customers and investors, "machine learning" for peers, "crappy statistics" when it fails. Strip away the hype and it's just math and data analysis, not magic.
Chapters
There's an old joke among data scientists that when you're talking to customers and investors, it's artificial intelligence. And when you're talking to your fellow practitioners, like at a conference or what have you, it's machine learning. And when you are alone and in the dark and sitting lit by the glow of a screen for a computer where the model just won't work, it's just crappy statistics. Remember that. It's just math. It's just data analysis. When you take the magic away from artificial intelligence and from all of the marketing mumbo jumbo that goes along with it, you will find that behind it all, there can be something that's very useful, but nothing magical.
