An entrepreneur argues that founders should choose tools based on what their customers need, not what's trendy. Building different means ignoring tool tribes and peer pressure to use popular stacks like Laravel or WeWeb. The real win is delivering extraordinary value to your specific audience, even if it makes you unpopular with other founders.

Build different. I see a lot of entrepreneurs who then build in public. You get lots of wrath from people who are used to the tools that they are, right? Like you're all on the same team of people who like WeWeb. Yeah, we're all going WeWeb. Or people who are like Laravel and we're all talking about PHP. I don't think any of that really matters, will matter unless you're building something that's for that audience. The question is, who are the customers? And the customers we want to be served in a way that's going to be extraordinary for them. And it's much more likely that you're going to be extraordinary if you're different. That means different from other builders. This is much more likely to make you unpopular among other builders who are quote unquote on your team, because you're going to be finding a thing that's very different from the way they would ordinarily go about it, or not exactly what the cool new trend is going to be from a development point of view, because you're creating the cool new trend from your customer's point of view. So embrace the idea of building different so that you can deliver extraordinary value.
