As AI gets better at reading code, document the why instead of the what. Capture your reasoning and intent so machines can understand your thinking and turn it into applications. Purpose-driven documentation becomes a strategic asset that multiplies in value.

In the era of AI, documentation is more valuable than ever. And documentation, as I've sort of discussed elsewhere, isn't necessarily about the line-by-line description of this. What this line of code means, this is what this particular segment does. It's going to be about whys. It's going to be about your thinking. It's about how whole processes work. And the best documentation I've seen, the best content I've seen, is really much more about the why and getting people to think like the machine does or think like the process does. Because if you can get people to do that, you can also get AIs to do that. And when the AI becomes a consumer, they can turn around and take that insight that you have created and turn it into all sorts of practical forms with relatively low friction. This is why content becomes so much more valuable today than it was, say, a while ago, because previously you had to hope someone's going to read the documentation. But now that documentation can be read by the machine, will often be read by the machine, and turned into massive value in a relatively short amount of time. You get tremendous leverage. Write more, make more documentation that matters.
