A success trap is performing adequately at a comfortable job while knowing you could do better. The problem: you spend most time on delivery instead of sales and learning. The fix is splitting your 60-hour week equally between delivery, sales, and investment or study.

How do you escape a success trap? I would say that a success trap is something where you are being paid, you are getting some degree of reward from efforts you know are not at the level of your potential, and you are delivering and you're doing good work, but it's not, you know, it's not phenomenal. You know that there is something better out there for you. I often see success traps in the form of day jobs, where people have a job, they like their job pretty okay, and they are sort of afraid of leaving that job and and what have you. But you'll see businesses where people get in business, the business is having a little bit of success, you're serving your existing customers, but you're spending all of your time serving your existing customers. And time is really the nature of the success trap because you're spending all of your time fulfilling instead of doing the other things you need to do. I often talk about a 60-hour work week where you need to be doing equal time delivery, sales, and investment. And we should say study. When you do all 3 of those things, you escape the success trap.
