2024 brought divergent AI that spits out huge, messy outputs hard to edit. Look instead for convergent AI: tools like v0 and Cursor that produce small, composable pieces you can actually integrate into your work.

Look for convergent AI. I think 2024 was very much the year of divergent AI. People would feed in a little bit of prompt and get delightfully big results. I was seeing a lot of this in like, you know, bold.new and other code generation systems. And it's basically the knock on them as compared, say, with, you know, the more visual development, no-code type platforms, that they create things that have no real governance to them. And so, hey, what are you supposed to do with it next? How do you edit what comes next? And this is where convergent AI becomes really useful because convergent AI is the kind that's going to take your ideas or take a whole bunch of assets and turn it into something small, turn it into a component. v0 is an excellent example of this as of this writing because v0 is about creating a single component that you can then compose into the rest of your application. There are other tools like editors. This is where Windsor and Cursor become interesting to modify your code and be able to make it more and more controlled. And using prompts to do that can be quite effective as well. Look for convergent AI.
