All relationships depend on proximity, timing, and energy. Physical closeness enables deeper bonds, life-stage alignment makes connection easier, and leaders must deliberately invest energy to maintain relationships, especially in remote teams.

Personal relationships are driven by proximity, timing, and energy. These three things create the synchronization between people that allows them to flow. This is the basis of friendships. I think it's also the basis of professional relationships, also the basis of, you know, even client relationships. Proximity is going to be how close you are, often quite physically. It's one of the reasons why, like, return to office can't be the worst thing in the world. Like, the closer you are to people, the easier it is to form, you know, deeper bonds and higher bandwidth communication. Timing Energy has a lot to do with synchronization with people, like really time of life stuff. This is why, you know, young people tend to bond, older people tend to bond, and then the way you get people to cross generations by making use of the other two. Just like if you want to have people work remote, you need to make better use of the other two to create better synchronization with people. And third one is energy, and energy really is a question of management. This is where as leaders we need to apply extra energy in order to forge the bonds between people. This allows relationships, friendships, and professionals to work.
