Saying yes has risks. I have found that by saying yes to, I want to ask a question, makes me look dumb because I look ignorant because I'm asking someone else for information, therefore positing that I don't actually have it. Saying yes to doing things that I didn't previously know how to do is going to create the risk of me looking incompetent or maybe not meeting accomplishments in quite the way that I had meant to. Saying no will always make you sound smart. Saying no, oh, I can always think of a good and clever reason not to do something. And I used to do that a lot when I was a kid and a lot when I was a younger adult. And the thing I've eventually come around to is the smartest move is to be saying yes more often, because that is where the expansion opportunities come from. That's where the growth comes from. I would ask you, as you look around, what is it that you can say yes to and risk looking dumb rather than things that you would say no to and be comfortable, feel self-sufficient?
