In this instructional video, Rene Deceuninck of The Body Language Company explains how to present yourself effectively on camera for online meetings, recordings, and webinars. He emphasizes that technical preparation is as important as content preparation. The key recommendations are: (1) Choose a background that does not distract viewers – a plain white backdrop or a simple, non‑busy setting works best. (2) Ensure adequate front‑facing lighting; light should come from in front of you, not from behind, to avoid silhouettes and improve video quality. (3) Use a clip‑on microphone to capture high‑quality audio, which keeps the audience’s attention. (4) Frame the shot so viewers see from the top of the head to at least the middle of the torso, allowing hand gestures to be visible; showing the full body is even better. He concludes by inviting viewers to sign up for an online training program.

Hi, do you speak body language? Well, I do, and it changed my life. Welcome, Rene Deceuninck from The Body Language Company in London. This video is about how to record yourself because let's be honest, let's face it, today more than ever we work online, we are sitting in front of a camera, we have online meetings, online Zooms, online Skypes, whatever you want to call it. To have the full attention of people, You have to be prepared, and not only prepared with your content, but be prepared technically. And what should you pay attention to are a couple of things. I will share them with you right now. The first thing to take care of is your background. How is your background? Is it a mirror? Is it a painting? Is it a shelf with books? It doesn't matter, but make sure it's not drawing the attention of the one who's watching you away from your content or subject. Now, as you can see, I have a white background. But on the internet you can find all these backdrops, these kind of backdrops with a green background, with a white background, and you know, you put them out there. Once you're done, you put them back in the bag and done. Now the second thing is to have enough light. The light has to come from in front of you, not from behind you, because that will have an influence on the quality of your recording. So make sure you have a light, an extra light. You can find them again on the internet. There's a lot of companies selling these things. And they're very, very good in terms of the quality of your recording because in the end, you want the one who is watching you to have their full attention, right? The third thing is to have a clip-on mic. A clip-on mic will make sure that the sound is from high quality because you want to have the full attention of the one watching you, the one is listening to you, and the one who is engaging with you. So the sound is so important, a high quality of sound. You can have that, you can create that with a clip-on mic. Now number 4 is How do people see you when you are online? Now, if you are online only with your head, that might work, but that's not really the best way to do it. The second way is to have half of your body, right? Half of your body and then your head. That's much better. The best way to do it is when you have half of the body up and when people can see your hands, when they can see your gestures, so you can accentuate what you have to say to people. That is so important. Now, using your full body is even better. Things to remember is to have a backdrop, a nice white backdrop, or whatever you want to use, but make sure it doesn't distract people. The second thing is make sure you have enough light. The third thing, a clip-on mic. And number four, make sure that people can see you from the top of your head until the middle of your body. I wish you all success. We have an amazing training, an online training. Sign up and I'll see you on the other side. Ciao!
