Rene Deceuninck explains how sleep works: your subconscious handles breathing and heartbeat while you cycle through roughly 90-minute stages, with four cycles around 6 hours as a baseline. Sleep before midnight matters most for your brain and body.

Good sleep is important for brain and health. Although we generally sleep long enough, unfortunately we are not good sleepers. Some say we sleep no less than a third of our lives. If you think about it, sleeping is actually just a crazy concept. After a tiring day, we go to bed where we dream for several hours with, with our eyes closed before we get out of bed in the morning rested. What we do know, however, is that sleep has a huge positive impact on our brain and body. Have you ever considered the fact that when you go to sleep, you continue to breathe? Have you ever considered the fact that when you go to sleep, your heart keeps beating? Have you ever worried about this? Now, 90% of us, probably not, because it's normal. Now, the reason this process continues automatically is because we have a conscious and a subconscious. Consciousness does things consciously. You are there. You are awake, you experience things in the conscious moment. Once we go to sleep, consciousness goes to sleep too. However, the subconscious mind works 24/7 and is partially responsible for our heartbeat and our breathing. Now, enjoying a healthy number of hours of sleep, of course, varies from person to person. It takes about 30 minutes to go to your deepest sleep. Then you stay there for 30 minutes. And then you come back to the least deep sleep for the third 30 minutes, which is one cycle. When you have slept 4 of these 90-minute cycles, you basically have a healthy sleep. So 4 times 90 minutes is 30— 360 minutes or 6 hours of sleep. It is known that the ideal hour of sleep occurs before midnight. There are many studies on this, but one thing absolutely is certain. A healthy sleep will create a healthy body language. Thank you for watching. Bye for now.
