How to Create a Following

Richmond Dinh says the best way to build a following is to lead by example, not by bossing people around. He recommends leading from love and truth, showing certainty in your mission, and trusting that people naturally seek leaders they can follow.

How do you get people to buy into your vision? How do you get your loved ones to follow your journey? How do you build a tribe of people where they follow you because they want to follow you and not because they have to? Do you boss them around and get angry or frustrated when things don't go your way and they don't do the things that you want them to do? Or do you stay quiet and passive and just expect everyone to read your mind? Or. Or do you go home to your spouse, your husband, or your wife and you shove a book in their face and you say, hey, read this because it's good for you? Of course you don't do any of that. How do I know? Because believe it or not, I've stupidly. I've stupidly done all of those in the past. And did it work? No, of course it didn't work. In fact, it probably made things a lot worse. And on the flip side, I've had plenty of people do that to me as well. And did that work? Of course it didn't work. So what do you do when you're on this path of change and growth and success and your loved ones and the people you care about, your family and your friends, are just not on the same path as you? Well, obviously, you just cut them out of your life and you wave them goodbye and you wish them a good time. Of course, you don't do that. No, don't do that. Don't do that. Look, by far, the best way to ever persuade or influence anyone is to lead by example and to be. Be the role model. To light the path ahead, to show them the way through your own actions and your own behaviors. To lead from love, to lead from care. To lead from a place of truth where you say to yourself, you know what? No matter what path I'm on and no matter what path you're on, no matter how different they are, I will always be here for you. And while you're walking on your path, if it really is to serve the greater good, you just have to trust that people will eventually buy into what you're doing. Because by nature, human beings are just dying. They are just dying to be led. And what they're looking for is certainty in their leader. A leader who's strong, a leader who's courageous, a leader who can back himself in his own abilities and his own personal mission more than anyone else around him. And I can assure you, the more you trust your own personal mission, the more you role model the way, the more you impact the world with your presence, your energy and your actions. The more you persist with your deeper mission, the more you do that, the better the leader you'll become and the more successful you will be.
