Richmond Dinh argues people say yes to requests for help more often than expected because being asked gives them a chance to give. A grandmother falls on the street and strangers rush to help her. Not asking deprives others of that opportunity.

Did you know human beings are wired to help other human beings? It is wild, and you'll be surprised on the amount of people that say yes to you that you preconceived that they're going to say no and they're going to reject you. Think about it, you say yes more to people than you ask for help because this is the way you are. Because when someone asks for help, they give me the opportunity to give, and when you don't ask for help, you rob people opportunity to give. People just want to help someone, and I'll prove it to you. If you saw a grandma fall over on the street, your instant reaction is to run to her and pick her up.
