A short YouTube monologue by Richmond Dinh arguing that pride — not fear — is the primary obstacle to success and healthy relationships. Dinh catalogs several harmful expressions of pride (e.g., ‘too good to ask for help,’ refusal to be coachable, inability to forgive, seeking vengeance, and fear of others seeing failure) and states that this pride ‘‘destroys everything in your life.’’
I'm too good to put my hand up. That pride destroys everything in your life. Is the worst one of all, is pride. Yeah. And not the I'm proud of my kids pride. I'm proud of my achievement. Pride. I'm proud of, you know, what I've done with my life pride. But the pride that says I'm too good for this, it won't work for me because.
I see. Which comes up a lot for people. I can't do that because. Exactly. Same pride that says, you know what?
I don't want to try because I'm scared that I'll look down. You know, I talked about before, there's no such thing as people that are afraid of failing. It's people afraid of other people seeing them fail. And that's all due to pride. The pride that slams the door in your spouse's face. The pride that presents. The pride that doesn't forget or forgive. The pride that seeks vengeance. The pride that says, you know, I see it working for them, but it will never work for me because insert your five stories because you're different. The pride that will sit back and have the arms crossed and say, you know, I'm not coachable or I don't need help or, you know, I'm too good to put my hand up. That pride destroys everything in your life. Not just business, but your life. And that's the ultimate Destroyer of the 7Ps. Worse than everything we discuss right up until this point.
