In this solo episode of the Stan Stewart Coaching Podcast, host Rob Anderson explains the CliftonStrengths (formerly StrengthsFinder) assessment and why it is especially valuable for small‑business owners. He outlines how the Gallup‑developed tool identifies a person’s top talents across 34 themes (e.g., Strategic, Relator, Achiever) and argues that self‑awareness of these strengths lets entrepreneurs allocate energy, avoid burnout, and build more resilient businesses. Rob shares personal anecdotes from his nonprofit work and earlier ventures, illustrating how focusing on his own strengths boosted productivity and success. He then delivers three practical tips: (1) Build your business around your strengths rather than trying to emulate others; (2) Identify gaps in your talent profile and partner with complementary people; (3) Let your strengths steer daily decisions such as prospecting, process building, or product design. Finally, he invites listeners to take the CliftonStrengths assessment and enroll in a three‑session coaching program tailored for new small‑business owners, directing them to www.stanshurecoaching.com for more information.

You know, starting a small business can feel like juggling 10 balls at once. You're the marketer, you're the accountant, you're the sales team, you're also the visionary, all rolled up into one. But what if I told you there's a way to lean into your natural strengths instead of trying to be everything? To everyone. And that's where CliftonStrengths comes in. Hello, I'm Rob Anderson. I am the host of Stan Stewart Coaching Podcast. And today we're gonna be talking about CliftonStrengths. So CliftonStrengths formerly was known as StrengthsFinder. It's a powerful assessment developed by Gallup. It identifies your unique combination of talents across 34 themes. Themes such as Strategic, Relator, Activator, Achiever. Instead of focusing on your weakness, CliftonStrengths helps you maximize what you already do well. And every small business owner brings a different set of strengths to the table. Some excel at building relationships, others at executing tasks, getting things done. Others, they're about influencing others. And other small business leaders, it's about creating a big-picture strategy. CliftonStrengths doesn't just give you a label. It gives you a personalized blueprint for how you naturally think, how you feel, and how you behave. This matters to small business owners because when you're running a small business, you don't have the luxury of a big staff to cover every skill set. That means self-awareness is your greatest advantage. CliftonStrengths gives you a lens to see where you can pour your energy so you can maximize your return. For example, if you're high in Strategic, You're going to naturally spot patterns and trends, helping you pivot quickly in the market. If you're high in Relator, you're going to build strong, loyal connections with clients who keep you coming back. And if you're high in Achiever, you're going to thrive productively, moving projects forward when other people stall. So instead of wasting your time to force yourself into areas that drain you, you can structure your business to align with your strengths and delegate or outsource where you're weaker. That clarity prevents burnout, builds momentum, and gives your business a stronger foundation. For me, understanding my strengths was paramount, not just to When I was running my nonprofit, or as I run my nonprofit, and not just when I was working a 9 to 5, which we all know is not really a 9 to 5, but as I look back at all the different business ventures that I've done, going all the way back to when I started my first mowing business as a very, very young, you know, young person. I've noticed where my strengths show up, and I've noticed where when I focused on those strengths, I was much more productive and much more successful. So let me give you 3 hot tips that I've learned about leveraging your CliftonStrengths. Number 1, build around your strengths. Stop comparing yourself to other entrepreneurs. If your top strengths are in execution, Build systems and build routines that showcase your reliability. If they're in influencing, put yourself in front of audiences and let your voice carry your business. You want to align your business and align your business model to your talents rather than fighting against them. That was the quickest thing that I had to learn as I've gone in to launch other organizations, as I work with an organization, is really to build around the natural strengths. Tip number 2, find your gaps and partner up. Once you know your top strengths, identify what's missing. You know, if you're a person who is great at vision, But you're not detail-oriented, partner with someone who thrives in precision. If you're people-focused but you're not analytical, bring in someone who can crunch the numbers. The best businesses aren't built by lone wolves. They're built by balanced teams. Tip number 3. Use your strengths to guide your daily decisions. This was huge for me. Every day you're faced with dozens of choices. Should you spend time and should you spend money prospecting? Do you spend your time building processes? Or maybe you're looking at spending time on designing your next product. Let your strengths guide you and help you in where you put your energy. A strength such as Futuristic might pull you into long-term planning, while Woo will thrive in networking events. By aligning your actions with your talents, you're going to get done A lot more, and you're gonna get it done with less stress. If you're ready to stop guessing and start building your business around your strengths, I'd like to invite you to take a CliftonStrengths assessment.
