Episode 77: Intro to 12 Months of Transformation
29 Jun 2026 · 19 min
In this solo episode of the Stand Sure Podcast, host Rob Anderson explores why genuine personal change requires honest reflection, accountability, and coaching rather than mere encouragement or information. He contrasts "gentle" comfort with the hard‑truth that sparks lasting growth, and explains how encouragement feels good while accountability drives results. Rob differentiates coaching from consulting, emphasizing that coaches create awareness through probing questions instead of prescribing solutions. He shares a personal health story—being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes—and how that blind‑spot prompted him to buy running shoes, start a running routine, and win his age group in a fun run, illustrating that transformation emerges from small, consistent actions taken with support. Drawing from this experience, Rob introduces the StandSure Coaching 12‑month transformation journey, a partnership‑based program designed for men in midlife who are tired of starting over each year and need honest conversations, accountability, habit‑building, and sustained guidance. He ends with a call‑to‑action to schedule a discovery call at StandSureCoaching.com, positioning the program as a path from information to true transformation.

Hey, like I've shared with you, this podcast comes out of things that I put in my journal, whether it's my own self-reflections, maybe it's something that I've been talking to a client or other clients with, maybe something I wrote down because I was inspired by it. But I wrote this down in my journal the other day, and that was, do you want gentle or do you want the truth? Because I got to tell you, those are not the same thing. No. You see, gentle makes you feel better for a moment. And truth? Man, that, that changes you for a lifetime. Growth doesn't begin when someone tells you what you want to hear. It begins when you're willing to hear what you need to hear. And if you're serious about becoming different, and becoming a different person, you gotta stop asking for comfort and start asking for honesty. And that's where real transformation begins. And I think it's, I think it's one of the biggest reasons so many people stay stuck. They don't lack information. They are, they They're lacking honest reflection and they surround themselves with encouragement, but they avoid accountability. And man, encouragement feels good. I do a lot of encouraging on my dailies. So I've got these little 15, 20-second dailies I put out each day and I hit TikTok and Facebook, YouTube, X, whatever, right? X. I put it out on my Patreon page. I've got these little dailies and they're encouraging, but man, you have to go beyond encouragement because you need accountability. And while encouragement feels good, accountability is what changes lives. And that's what we're talking about today. Hey, welcome to Stand Sure Coaching. My name is Rob Anderson. I'm your host of the Stand Sure Podcast. Hey, my journey has been defined by 3 distinct chapters. Chapter 1 began with my time in the military, where I learned the true meaning of leadership and resilience in some of the most high-pressure environments. Then on to Chapter 2, I transitioned into corporate America, serving as a learning and development professional and leadership coach for Fortune 500 companies. Now, I'm in my 3rd chapter dedicated to helping men navigate their own transitions, rediscover their purpose, and find what it means to lead with conviction in their second half of life. Hey, by the way, if you are joining this podcast or just joined this podcast, it's not about collecting more information and it's not about becoming someone Different. It's about the internal you and that real transformation that makes you different. And that's what we're really after. It's not just the surface level. It's not just what people might see from the surface. It's the things that are deep down inside you that You know, that percolate to the top. So, by the way, I want you to stick with me until the end because I'm going to share a coaching opportunity that I've created for people who are tired of starting over, you know, every January, and then by February they're done, right? So, I've got a 12-month journey that I want to introduce you to. That I'm really excited about. I've got, I've got some folks that are in, you know, that when I was piloting this and testing out, they weren't really sure. They weren't even sure of how they want to transition. They just knew they wanted something different. And it's been, man, it's been so cool to, to watch that. You know, I've, I've coached, you know, in, in the past few years Well, since I started out as a coach in 2012, but really in the last year, just the last year alone, I've coached close to 500 hours. And one of the things that keeps showing up over and over again is that people don't need another book. They don't even need another podcast, although I would love it if you would share this one out. They don't need a motivational quote. They don't need another YouTube video because most of the time they know or they already know what they should be doing. But they also know that at some point they need to have a difficult conversation. They know that they need to stop procrastinating. They know that they need better boundaries. Because the problem isn't about information. It's about awareness. Because awareness isn't something that you download. It's not a PDF. It's not an app. And that's one of the biggest differences between coaching and consulting. A consultant's going to say, here's what I think you should do. And people come to me as a coach And they get that mixed up sometimes. They think I'm going to tell them what to do. And by the way, there are hundreds, if not thousands, hundreds of thousands probably, of people who are so-called coaches that are telling you what to do. A coach doesn't tell you what you should do. A coach is going to ask questions, deep questions. Things like, what's keeping you from doing what you already know? What are the barriers? What gives you energy? What drains your energy? A consultant gives answers. A coach creates awareness. And awareness is where everything changes. One of the most valuable things that I do as a coach Is help you hold up a mirror. And it's not to point out, you know, your flaws. It's not to criticize you. It's not to judge you. But it's to help you see what you may not have noticed or maybe what you stopped noticing. Sometimes it's an old story that you have believed for years. Sometimes it's a lie that you believed for years. Sometimes it's blaming circumstances instead of taking responsibility. Or maybe you're just living on autopilot. And the truth is, we all have blind spots. I know I do, man. I just had to come to grips with a huge blind spot. And I haven't shared this with a lot of people. But I was in the doc's office about 3 weeks ago and found out I'm a type 2 diabetic. Yeah, I'm in pretty okay shape. Had a habit of Snickers bars and Cokes, but other than that, it wasn't too bad. I got type 2 diabetes. Now, I have a wife who's always trying to encourage me to eat well and look after, you know, look at the labels, and I should be eating more of this and less of that, and I just blew it off. Until now, when that mirror got held up, and both physically and from a health state, I didn't like what I saw anymore. We all have blind spots. I've got them. You've got them. Everybody does. That's why even elite athletes, they have coaches. If you want to get your body in better shape, right, you hire a personal coach or a professional trainer. And even after you get in shape, oftentimes you'll go back to that personal trainer so you— just so you can maintain or go for different goals. But yeah, I mean, even athletes hire coaches. It's not because they don't know how to play the game. It's because someone outside of them Can oftentimes see things that they can't, and it's the same thing in life. You see, when you got someone asking the right questions at the right moment, everything can change. Because I've watched clients realize that they weren't actually afraid of failure; they're afraid of disappointing people. I've watched people discover that their anger wasn't really anger at all. It was hurt that had never been acknowledged. I've seen business owners stop chasing someone else's definition of success and finally build a business that matched what their life actually wanted. And none of those breakthroughs happened because I had some kind of magical answer or because I gave them a book or because I had them listen to a podcast. It happened because coaching created a space for awareness, and awareness creates choice. Then choice becomes action, and then action, when it's repeated over time, becomes transformation. See, it's not about information. It's about transformation. And honestly, transformation isn't one big breakthrough. That's another thing, man. I see coaches promising, I'll give you 3 breakthroughs by the end of the session. How can you even start to guarantee that? Because in reality, it's hundreds of small moments. Where you can choose truth over comfort, truth over excuses, truth over blame, truth over the version of yourself that's trying to stay safe. That's why coaching isn't about fixing people, because you're not broken. If you're broken, you need to go see a counselor or a therapist. But it's really about helping people become more intentional, more aware, more aligned with the person that they want to become. And here's the part that most people underestimate, and that's transformation takes time. Like I said a minute ago, I personally know coaches That will promise a breakthrough by the end of the session. I think what they should be promising is that you become more aware, but the breakthrough doesn't really happen until the transition starts taking place. You know, real change doesn't happen because you got all fired up after going to a conference. We just went to LifeSurge this last week. Where they talked about business and finance and investing and real estate, all kinds of stuff, right? How to be prosperous. And man, I saw people lining up, taking classes. We sign up, we're going to take a class, but that doesn't mean that we're going to transform just because we sign up for a class. It's like the day that I bought running shoes. So I'm gonna back up just a little bit here. I'm gonna tell you a little more about the story. A few weeks ago, I go to the doc, basic checkup. They did some blood tests and I get the bombshell dropped on me that I'm type 2 diabetic. I walked out of the doctor's office, got into my truck, dumped out the bottle of soda that I had there with me. I called my wife Brooks, found out where the closest running store was, went down, bought a pair of tennis shoes— or running shoes, rather. So I had the epiphany, the blind spot showed to me. Now when I bought a pair of running shoes, do you think that's where transformation took place? Absolutely not. Transformation took place by taking the next bold step because while I was there, I signed up for the first fun run I've done since 1999. Transformation started taking place when I got home that evening and a guy who hasn't run in years did his first run that night. And I gotta tell you, I could run from like one mailbox to my neighbor's mailbox and I would have to walk. Then from that mailbox, you know, I'd walk and then I'd run to the next one. And I did that, you know, so about— I'm only running about every 30, 40 yards. But within a couple of weeks, I built up to a point where at my first fun run, and I didn't realize this, I won my age group. 55+. And I'm over 55. And no, the times— the time that I ran with, I literally used to run twice that distance in the same amount of time. But the transformation started taking place because— not because I bought a pair of shoes, not because I was aware that I was type 2 diabetic. The transformation started taking place because I started taking action with the information that I had. Again, real change doesn't happen because you got fired up after listening to a podcast or a YouTube video or going to a conference. It happens because someone walks beside you. While you're building new habits. Because the other part of that, what I did is I reached out to someone that I trusted, gave them the full story of what was going on. And together, by the way, this is my coach. Together we built out achievable goals that I could go for. Because when motivation disappears, when life gets hard, when my old patterns wanted to call back, when we drink a soda or get a donut, the days where I didn't feel I was on my best, on those Tuesday afternoons when nobody's watching, nobody's there to know if I did my run or not or worked out. But I still pressed forward. You see, that's where identity is built. That's where the transformation— I had a ton of information, man. I know more about running from my years of competitive running. I could go out to AI. Go get more information. I could read books, read articles, watch YouTube videos. The real transformation is because I took that first step off my porch and ran from one mailbox to the next and then walked. And by the way, within a couple of weeks, I mean, very short time span until I did my first run, I got to where I could run nonstop. That's where the transformation is taking place. It's in those actions that you're doing. That is exactly why I created the StandSure Coaching 12-month transformation journey. I didn't build it as another course. I built it as a partnership. It's a year of intentional coaching. It's a year It's a year of honest conversations, accountability, better questions, building habits at last. It's a year of becoming someone different. So if you're tired of starting over, if you're tired of knowing what to do but struggling with actually how— struggling with how to do it or getting to do it, if you're ready for someone to challenge you, encourage you, walk beside you while you create lasting change, I want to be part of that conversation. So visit StanShurikCoaching.com. Schedule a discovery call. Let's see if that's the right program for you. And it may not be. But I think it is. Because at the end of the day, you know, you could spend another year collecting information or you can spend the next year becoming the person that you've always wanted to be. Information tells you what to do. Transformation changes everything. Here we go.
