3 Shockingly BAD Investments ⛔️

Rob Moore argues that state pensions, government bonds, cash savings, university education, and cryptocurrencies all lose value to inflation or carry hidden risks. He recommends real estate, gold, owning a business, and equity index funds instead, treating savings as a tool to fund investments rather than a destination.

3 shockingly bad investments that you're led to believe are good. There are narratives given to you by your parents, the education system, the central banks and governments on things you should invest in, like government bonds and savings accounts. And actually, I wanted to bust some myths and share with you some shockingly bad investments that you're led to believe are really good and you need to be careful of. And I'm going to cover 3 top ones, and actually I'm going to give you a couple of bonus ones. And the bonus ones are: number 1, state pension. State pensions, they're nowhere near performing at inflation. Even when inflation is quite low, they're nowhere near performing at inflation. And the governments have been known to dip into the state pensions. And the age at which you can get your pension is now 985. Gets older and older. The population is living longer. We can't afford to keep the population. So state pensions, bad investment. Government bonds— oh, some people think that, oh, this money will be safe because I'm giving it to the government who never steal money from the system, and they're not 2. 3 trillion in debt, are they? And if there was a bit of a financial crisis, they would still give me all my money back, wouldn't they? And they would guarantee it all. Yes, they would. No, they fucking wouldn't. So government bond, again, virtually no return, massive inflation. 14.1% is what they're telling you. So what is that in reality then? Must be nearly 20% in reality. So, and it's not safe. It's supposed to be safe. That's the point of a government bond. It's supposed to be safe. Anyway, these aren't the ones I was even going to tell you about. There's just a couple of bonus ones. Okay, big surprisingly shocking investment number 1 is university. So university can cost you up to 6 figures. £100,000 or dollars it can cost you to get fully trained to be a doctor or a lawyer. And how long is it going to take you to get that money back? Because you've got to pay interest on it. Well, they say it's low, but you're stuck in the system. You've got the needle of the central banks and the government stuck in your arm for the next 30 years, sucking out the interest from you. You're stuck in the system. You've got to pay it all back. You have a hundred grand debt from 5 to 7 years of study. Oh, but wait a minute, don't worry, because you'll get a 30 grand a year job, maybe. When you come out. I think university is a great big financial scam, and I think, okay, look, doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc., maybe that's the right road to go if you're prepared to learn for 7 years and get £100 grand in debt and then be an understudy and an apprentice for however many years before you actually get the fucking knife. You don't get the knife at year 7 to cut to be a surgeon. You might get the knife at year 15. You might be 150 grand in debt by then. How's that a good model for you being financially secure and free? To me, I, I can't call it a scam, but it's a system that works for the system but doesn't work for you. Now, with the age of internet, social media, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, podcasts— I'm doing these all at once— you can learn yourself. Here's a little thing that you can think about. What about learn while you earn? What about go and find an entrepreneur who runs a company and go and work for them and learn how to be an entrepreneur working for an entrepreneur, but earning while you're learning instead of getting into debt while you're learning? What about self-education from influencers, creators, leaders, mentors? Going on, uh, your own courses, choosing your own courses, picking and choosing courses you do online. So I think that university, for most Not almost, it's a massive, um, massive liability. I can't call it a scam, but it's nearly there. The second really bad investment that you're told is really good is cash. Oh, save your money, put your money in the bank, save the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves. What a load of shit advice that is. With inflation at 14.1%, in reality nearly 20, interest rates are still only 3% and everyone's scared that they're going up, you are net 15% a year down if you leave your money in the banks. And the banks don't guarantee it, and they'll go and lend and invest it out— $10 on the dollar and £10 on the pound. Uh, and then if there's a bank run or there's a financial issue— oh but, but Robert, so right because they guarantee £85,000 of my money? No no no no no no no no! It's gone if they want it, it's It's happened in China, it's happened in Lebanon. Your savings are now government assets. Thank you for using us for 35 years. We are now stealing all of your money. Do you know, in Lebanon, I believe it was, someone held up a bank and robbed the bank for his own fucking money. He robbed the bank to get his own money out because the banks had shut him from getting his own money. And this is where the world is coming to now. This is the part of the cycle that we're in. We are in rebellion and we are in revolution. All right, so invest in assets, um, protect your money. Use savings as a way to discipline yourself not to spend on depreciating liabilities, and only use savings to get enough money to then invest and then quickly invest. Savings is like a hot potato. Okay, I can hold it, I can hold it, I can— I've got to invest it. Okay, I'll hold it, hold it, hold it, invest it. And that's how you should see savings. And don't believe anything the banks tell you, or at least Don't expect the banks to act in your best interests. And then the third terrible investment that you're led to believe is really good by a lot of people is cryptocurrencies. Most of them are shit. They call them altcoins, they're actually shite coins. Bitcoin, it's a bit up and down, seems to be the, the one enduring one. You could argue that's decentralized, most of the others aren't. All these platforms and exchanges going bust left, right, and center. FTX went down, some of the other big names nearly went down. There'll be more and more. They're not decentralized. You think they are, they're not. You think they are because they're called crypto, but actually there's someone's company, privately or, um, publicly owned. There's someone's company and they can go bust just like anyone and anything else. Most cryptos are highly overrated. So they are the 3 things plus 2 bonuses Government bonds, state pensions, cash, university, and cryptos are a way overrated investment and asset class. So you might ask me then, well, what are good assets and investment classes? Real estate, gold, Rolex Daytonas, um, your own business— you control that to a larger degree. Um, things you can physically own um, that no one can take away from you. Your personal brand— this is an asset. Now you can earn on Facebook, you can earn on TikTok, you can earn on a podcast, you can earn on YouTube. So have you got a personal brand? Are you monetizing your content? Passion into profession, content into cash flow, information into income— these are all assets. And you can have multiple streams of income from digital assets. Information is digital income. And then you can have multiple streams of income from physical assets like gold and real estate. Oh, the stock markets, you know, always perform— performs better than inflation over a long period of time, well diversified into the S&P 500 or the FTSE 100, or even across some of the top companies in international, um, currencies and states. So these are some things to think about that actually work.
