He covers concrete principles like the value of silence, trusting your intuition, and focusing on problems rather than complaints. An aging man's tough life lessons. The aging man is me. In 3 hours and a half, I will be 45. I have peeked over the hill towards 50, and every year on my birthday, I take some time to be introspective and think about what life has taught me. Think about some of the hard lessons which actually end up being some of life's greatest gifts. And, you know, I like to be positive and happy, but, you know, for example, I think you really taste life when you contemplate death. I think For example, when it comes to music, some of the most beautiful music is the, the saddest, the most moving and most emotional music. So I think that some of the, the greatest life lessons, I think they are the hardest, the most brutal. So every year it's a tradition of mine, I don't party, I don't go out, I don't drink, I don't socialize. I get introspective and think about the things that I've learned and the thing— the, the beauty through challenge, the blessings through the stressings that life offers. And so I do this once a year, so it's quite a, a rare and unique experience from me because normally it's just me ranting or giving you hardcore practical tactical money content. So let's get into this. Now, I just did a part 1 this morning. There'll be at least a part 3 and 4, but here we go. Let's see how many we get. And by the way, let me know what you think about the life's great lessons. Let me know if you agree with any of them. Maybe you also want to give me a happy birthday, because in 3 hours and 20 minutes, it is my birthday. And I will cry if I want to. So, um, let's start with number 11 of 45, seeing as I'll be 45. The best form of revenge is kindness, especially when you hurt the most. So often when we're hurt, we want to hurt others. Hurt people hurt people. And so we seek revenge, but we become bitter and twisted inside, whereas the best form of revenge is just kindness. And some people say, well, you know, the best form of revenge is forgiveness, but forgiveness assumes they did something wrong and that you have an elevated position from which you can forgive them, like they wronged you, like they owe you something. There is nothing to forgive. There is only gratitude. Number 12 of 45 hard, brutal life lessons. I'll tell you what, I'm going to give you a gift at the end of this as well, so make sure you stay. Number 12 is: in every stressing hides a blessing. The stressing is the lesson. Just like, have you ever heard the saying, the obstacle is the way. So you want to grow, you want to learn something, you want to experience something in life, you want some happiness, some pleasure, you want a result, a goal, and you perceive you, you want it easy and good. But the universe knows better, and it always gives you what you want but how you need it. You think you know how you need what you want. You don't. You have an idea of what you want, But the universe knows better in how you need this blessing and wraps it in a stressing. For example, have you ever had an experience that when you went through in the moment was really painful for you, couldn't see any good in it? Then you look back 6 months, a year, 2 years, 5 years, and you could see the, the lesson or the blessing really clearly. In fact, you even have nostalgia for the pain you were going through when you look back. It could be a partnership breakup, a relationship breakup, or just something that was really hard. So always remember, in every stressing, hides a blessing. Number 13 of 45, and thanks for the birthday wishes. People treat you exactly the way you teach them to treat you. If you don't like how someone is treating you, you have to teach them to treat you differently. It is their— not their fault how they're treating you, because they're treating you how they know how to treat you. So if you want people to treat you better, teach them better. Take personal responsibility for all the actions, interactions, and relationships you have with others. Number 14: if you have any issues that you don't express, if you repress pain or issues with other people, that's 100% on you and not on them. Someone might do something that upsets you, pisses you off, challenges you, and hurts you. They may not have intended to do it. They may not know what they're doing. But if you repress and do not express your feelings around that and set some boundaries and give the feedback, it is not on them, it is on you. Number 15: any conflict you avoid now will come back bigger, harder, and badder later. You know that, you don't need me to tell you that, but there are some things right now that you're avoiding. There's some things that would be hard now that will become easier later if you deal with them now. Or if you pick the easy road now, they'll get harder later. Okay, number 16. This is a big business lesson for me, this one. There's ruthlessness or there's toothlessness. But there's nothing in between. There is no vanilla. There is no medium, median, in the middle. There is ruthlessness or toothlessness. And I used to think, well, you know, you don't have to be ruthless in business. You do. At the very least, you have to be decisive. At the very least, you have— you, you know that you have to make firm and strong decisions which are for the greater good but can upset and hurt people. Letting staff go, for example, that could be the right decision but hard. There's ruthless or there's toothless and there's nothing in between. Number 17: The easiest person to lie to is yourself. Stop lying to yourself. The easiest person to lie to is yourself. But you can't avoid the truth. You can keep lying to yourself, but the truth will always be in your ear, in your conscience. Okay, number 18: if you want the right people in your life, you've got to let go of the wrong people. You have to make room. You want more, you want more money, you want more better people, you want better things in your life, you want to attract all these better things. Yet you've got people and obstacles and debt that are blocking the things that you want. So let go of the old to allow in the new. If you want the right people in your life, you've got to let go of the wrong ones. Number 19, this is a big lesson, lesson, I think, and the youth teach us this actually. Being patient is not always a virtue. We were taught it as we were older. Law of compounding takes 20 years to be an overnight success. But I say now, being patient isn't always a virtue. You have to be quick. You have to get what you want. You have to go and get it, otherwise someone else will take it. Number 20: Learning from your mistakes is dumber and more expensive than learning from the mistakes of others. So everyone always says, oh, you should learn from your mistakes. Well, most of us don't because we, we are who we are and we have our habits, good habits and bad habits. So we do actually usually make the same mistake over and over again, and it's expensive to learn from your own mistakes. I don't want to go bust. I want to learn from other people who've been bust. Why would I want to go bust? Why would I want to make that mistake? I'd like to know, um, what it's like so I can avoid it. So I'll learn from other people who've been there and done it. Thank you. Much more, much better leverage to learn from the mistakes of others. Number 21: most people aren't even thinking about you, so stop caring about what they think. They're, they're too busy consumed with their own stressings to worry about what you're thinking, so you thinking about what they're thinking about you is a waste of time because they're not even thinking about you and it's bothering you. Number 22: Silence is power, especially when the noise is loud inside your head. Let me say that again: Silence is power, especially when the noise is loud inside your head. Number 23: Your intuition is mostly wrong, especially with something that is new to you. People always say, 'Oh, trust your intuition, trust your gut.' Well, anything that you've never done before, you have no intuition. And most things you're not good at, so your intuition shouldn't be trusted. When it comes to people and your instinct about people, I think that is an area where maybe you should trust it. But in most other situations, data, proof, research, the opinions of other people around a decision that you're going to make who've got experience is better than intuition. Number 24: if you wait for permission, you will never get started. I remember learning in business 17 years ago, don't beg for forgive— don't ask for— beg for forgiveness, don't ask for permission. Third time lucky. Beg for forgiveness, don't ask for permission. If you wait for permission, you will never get started. And number 25: people will criticize you no matter what you do. So you might as well do you. You got a shitty, rusty, crappy old car, they'll criticize you. You got a shiny new red silver supercar, they'll criticize you. Might as well be rich then. Might as well have the nice car if they're going to criticize you. Might as well be yourself if they're going to criticize you anyway. Okay, number 26: the more you focus on the problem, the more you manifest the problem. You have to figure out what the problem is quick, and then you have to focus on the solution. And the more you wallow and bathe and lap up the problem— and everyone, look at my problem, my problem— the more you actually manifest the exact problem you don't want to manifest. Number 28: You do not get what you want, you get what you are. So whatever you want, you have to be first. You have to be it until you see it. Because we all want a million things and we don't get them. You don't get what you want, you have to become it. Like, if you want a partner, you have to become the partner that that partner wants, whether it's a business partner or a life partner. Okay, so, um, there you go. That's a good, what, 15 brutal, hard, true life lessons that I've learned. Just turning 45 in 3 hours' time. I'd like to share my birthday with you.
