Being Broke is a Choice 😳

Rob Moore argues being broke in developed countries is a choice, not circumstance, because people have internet access and unlimited knowledge. He went from £50,000 in debt to multi-millionaire by following a three-step process: learn, earn, invest. Moore says most people stay poor by blaming external forces instead of taking responsibility.

Being broke is a choice. Trigger warning: this video is going to upset victims, blamers, and complainers. You have been warned. I believe that being broke is a choice, a choice you consciously or unconsciously make. Now, I believe also there's a big difference between being broke and being poor. Poor is not your fault. Broke is your fault. And by the way, I can say this 'cause I was broke for a good few years, and looking back, it was my fault. I became a victim. I held on to it. I told myself a story. I played the violin over and over to get attention. I wasn't prepared to do what it took. I hated myself. I was envious of people with money. And I didn't realize it was a choice. So if you're born into poverty, you can do nothing about that. But most of you watching and people you know, you have an internet connection, you have social media, you have access to books and audiobooks and podcasts and online mentors. You have access to the greatest resource of all— knowledge. And there's virtually infinite knowledge at your fingertips online. So how can anyone therefore make out that there's not enough resources to be wealthy? There are also, as we all know, more than enough resources and more than enough money for all of us in the world to be millionaires. So the question is, who's got your money? What is going on and going wrong with you? So here's the thing: you cannot control the external factors that happen to you. Although many that you think you can't, you can, because you can take full responsibility. So let me ask you this: are you taking full responsibility for everything that happens to you? Does it happen to you, or does it happen for you? If it happens to you, it's someone else's fault. You are a victim. Life is unfair. And by the way, sometimes it can be hard and it does feel unfair. I do believe that to be true. However, if you take the mindset that everything happens for you, i.e., even when it seems bad, there's good in it, there's an upside to the downside, there's a lesson, there's a blessing in every stressing, then you take full personal responsibility. Then you can do something about it. It. So even if it's not your fault, you make it your fault by making it your responsibility. When it happens for you, not to you, and it's your fault because you're taking responsibility, then you can do something about it. Someone stole from you, you make it back. You lost something, you insure yourself next time. You know, your, your inflation is going up and your wages are going down, you start your side hustle, you start your second business. Look, the internet— you get access to information at the speed of light through fiber optics. You can be a creator on social media. You can monetize 15, 20 different social media channels instantly. You can turn your information into income, your content into cash flow. You can get a second and third job. You can build multiple streams of income. There's literally nothing you can't do right now. People are becoming billionaires in their 20s starting software and apps and building, you know, platforms. It's just unbelievable. There's so much opportunity. Look, now I get that times are hard. We've had lockdowns and COVID and wars, and we're in recessions and Brexit, and I get all that. I do get all that. But, and sometimes life is hard, and sometimes it throws you a curveball, and sometimes shit happens that maybe you couldn't control. But for example, let's say you got made redundant. You could go, life is unfair, or you could go, if I was the best in the company, maybe I wouldn't be redundant. What do I need to do to be best in the company? Let's say you get defamation and it costs you issues in your business and you've got a legal case. You could go, oh, that's not fair, people are criticizing me. Or could you go, is there something in my business and my marketing that I'm doing that could be better? So if you always look, rather than being bitter, be better. If you've always wanted to start your business, why don't you start your business? If you've always wanted to be an entrepreneur, instead of saying, 'Oh, cost of living are really high and inflation is really high and it's really hard right now,' why don't you go, 'Hmm, this is maybe the pain I need and the push that I need to go and start my business to become an entrepreneur.' Because being wealthy is a decision. Like, I decide to be successful, I decide to be wealthy, I decide to pursue meaningful work Find out what people want and need and give it to them and create fair exchange. It's a decision. It's really a 3-step process: learn, earn, invest. And at the moment, people aren't learning to self-manage, to be an entrepreneur, to be responsible. They're not earning enough, but they're not doing enough about it. They want the government or their employer to save them. I was always taught, do more than you're paid to do. Always go above and beyond. Do the job you want, not just the job you've got. And yet in this world right now, there's so much entitlement, like, well, the government should pay us, the employer should pay us. And look, could you help lockdown? No. Was that really freaking hard for some businesses? Yes, absolutely yes. And actually, was that fair that the government shut us down and ruined our ability to trade? No, but you cannot do anything about that. Well, actually, you could. You could choose to break those rules. That's your choice. I'm not saying you should. The government broke their own rules, so makes you think twice. So you can't— you cannot help lockdown, but you can help starting an online business, pivoting to trade digitally. Start your online business, start the extra side hustle income stream. Learn how to work effectively from home. You can control all those things. So let me know what you think in the comments, by the way. Do you think that being broke is a choice? I.e., it's something that you can consciously change? Or do you think that being broke is just, you know, it's hard right now and, you know, people are victims? Now I want to define broke versus poor. Poor is born into developing world poverty where you have no access to resources and education and you can't change that. Being broke is born into first world opportunity, like most of us are here, and not reading books, not listening to audiobooks, not getting mentors, not learning about money, blaming the government, blaming the employer, blaming lockdowns, and not taking personal responsibility, and blaming, complaining, defending, justifying, and being a victim. And it's very addictive, by the way. You know, misery loves company. It's very addictive to blame your problems and bathe in those problems and want to tell everyone, bring everyone in and start a pity party. I get it. Look, I had nearly 100 staff and we were locked down, and I had to sit down and I had to let a load of them go, and it was one of the worst days of my business career. Then furlough came in and we brought them all back, and then we hustled Like I was getting up at 4, 5 AM, going to bed at 11, 12, 1 PM for a good few months just to make sure I took full responsibility. Because my clients aren't going to blame the government and lockdowns if I don't serve them. They're going to blame me. Now I'd semi-retired then and I had to unretire. I semi-retired, um, before the recession of 2008 and then I had to unretire. So things happen, you can't control them, but you can control how you react to them. And try and stop yourself blaming and start taking responsibility. And I get it because shit is hard and life is hard, but you can change things. Being broke is a choice. Kieran has said, Rob, it's all just words, mate, you're good, you have millions in your bank. It's not words. The right words create right actions and decisions. Right actions and decisions create wealth. And by the way, because I've got millions in my bank, I can do these lives every single day and I can give a lot of my time and my content for free. And if I didn't have millions in the bank, I wouldn't be able to do that. And everything starts with a thought, and then it starts with a decision. Those decisions become words, and those words become actions, and those actions become results. So it's not all just words, Kieran. That's a— that I've got to just call you out there, Kieran. I think you're great, thanks for following my work, but that's an excuse, and that's part of the mentality that is not going to help. Because even if it's hard, you still have to move forward. Easy now, hard later. It's easy now to blame someone else, to say it's difficult, to say it's easy for you. People don't— a lot of people don't know this, but I was £50 grand in debt when I started in business. I was a victim. I blamed everyone else. I blamed school, I blamed my parents, I blamed the world, I blamed the greedy billionaires nicking all my money. But the reality was it wasn't their fault. I wasn't taking personal responsibility. I was scared, I didn't have knowledge, I was jealous, I was envious, I was a rabbit in the headlights. And so I just made a load of excuses instead of actually looking inside and going, why am I scared? Why am I jealous? What do I actually want? Even if it's hard, what do I actually want? Can I take control? And as soon as you do that, everything fucking changes. Does it happen overnight? No. Is this get rich quick? No, this is get rich long. But, um, you can start reading books on money. You can start listening to my money podcast. You can start getting online mentors, watching daily Facebook Lives, watching the good YouTube videos. You can start investing in courses instead of buying 60-inch TVs. You can cancel all your subscriptions to Sky and Netflix, and you can sign up to rob.team. And Headspace and Mindvalley and Masterclass and all the other online education platforms. And that's a fucking choice. That is not just words, that's a choice. So my question to you is, are you going to choose to take control? Are you going to be a victim to Brexit, COVID lockdowns, wars, recessions and inflation and taxation? Because that, by the way, it's the same for us all. In fact, I am taxed a lot more than broke people. A lot more. 70% of my words, tax. Sorry, 70% of my words, tax. Yeah, they'll be doing that next. The government are taxing words. The government are taxing thoughts. 70% of my money earned and spent is tax. And I'm pissed off about it. And I do do stuff about it. I rant about it, but the government aren't going to change. They're not watching Rob Moore's lives going, yeah, Rob's right, we better get the tax down. Instead, I'm going to start more businesses. I'm going to offset more taxable allowances. I'm going to hassle my accountant to figure out how we can reduce those taxes. Because it's all a decision. So, quick summary. Thanks for tuning in. Let me know what you think, by the way. Is there a difference between broke and poor? What do you agree with? What do you disagree with? Is being broke a choice? I don't think being poor is a choice. You can't help where you're born. Can't help being born in the third world, but as soon as you can get internet, podcasts, Facebook Lives, books, audiobooks, mentors, courses, masterminds, education platforms, as soon as you can get that, that's a choice. So sorry if you're triggered, but not sorry because I just believe it, that it's true. And I believe tough love is often the best kind of love because everyone else saying, oh, it'll be all right, don't worry, or yeah, it's really hard. It won't be all right if you don't change your mind. And change your decisions. And whilst it is hard, when it gets harder, you should get harder. When it gets harder, you should get better. But when it gets harder, most people get bitter. But instead of getting bitter, get better. So being poor is not your fault, but being broke is. Being broke is a choice. You can choose to spend more than you earn, or you can choose to spend less than you earn. You can choose to manage your money emotions and be disciplined and long-term thinking, or you can choose to be a child who's like just eating the sweets, short-term thinking, all the time, being addicted to spending. You can choose to blame your employer and the government, or you can choose to start your own business. You can choose to learn, earn, and invest, or you can choose to blame, complain, and justify. These are all choices. Internet, social media, instant information, apps, software systems— you can start it all overnight on the internet. You can start your own membership site like Rob.team, build up thousands of members online. More millionaires are created in recessions than any other time. So I believe that being poor and broke is a decision, and I think you should decide to stop subscribing to mind-numbing entertainment. Like, look at all the shows on Sky and Netflix, they're all about murder. Unsubscribe to all of that, save a couple of hundred a month, sell your 60-inch TV, you've got your phone, and join Rob.team. Rob.team is less than a large coffee a month. You can cancel any time. There's a 9-module, 10-hour How to Invest series. Let's say right now you don't know how to invest. Well, you can learn how to invest. There's a 6-hour 21 Ways to Monetize Social Media. Let's say you don't know how to monetize any social media. You can learn right now immediately by joining Rob.team. So open a new page, help yourself make decisions. And type in rob.team. Rob.team. Open a new window, browser, internet page, and just type in rob.team. It's a choice to sign up to that or not. By the way, you can cancel any time. It's less than a large coffee, so it's basically a no-brainer. Here's the thing: I've done more than a quarter of a billion in revenue in one company. I've got $50 million plus property portfolio making many millions in income. And I've launched Rob.team 3 years ago and relaunched it, and it's a fiver, and you can join now for the cost of a large coffee and learn from someone who, by the way, has been broke. I thought I was poor. I wasn't poor, I was broke. Because my dad put me through school and uni and bought my first car and bought my first house. He did all that, and I was still broke. So I actually had opportunity, I just couldn't see it because all I could see was downside. It took me to 27 years old to wake up. And I went from minus 50 grand in debt to a millionaire, deca-millionaire, multi-millionaire in a few short years. And by the way, I know billionaires, so it's not a flex. It's just that it can be done, but you have to take full, final, personal responsibility. So join rob.team and learn from me because I've done it, and I've got my millionaire mentors who've done it. And here's the thing, you can spend 50 grand a year on college and uni, and learn economics and business and finance from people who are broke, who don't earn more than 50 grand a year. How crazy is that? Learning about business and finance and economics from broke people. I can see people are just saying in the comments they've just joined Rob.team. The reason Rob.team is only a fiver— because people are saying it should be 50 or 500 a month— is because I want tens of thousands of members, and I want it to be the first step in. I want it to be like— well, people are saying, um, rob.team is like the Netflix for business and entrepreneurship. Get rid of mind-numbing murder shows and learn, earn, invest. Take full personal responsibility. Um, so join rob.team. Open a new page and type in rob.team. Okay, um, Emily has said, I think it's dangerous to say you should take personal responsibility for all bad things that happen. Because sometimes, uh, things that happen really aren't your fault. Um, I didn't say take personal responsibility for all bad things that happen. I said there are some things you can't control. So everyone, you should be listening more carefully. There's certain things in the world you can't control, but what if you at least tried to figure out if you could change it next time? Is that not surely a good thing? So let's say you cannot You cannot control external events that are chaos and random that happen to you, but you can control your reactions and responsibilities on how you decide what they mean and what you do about them. You absolutely can. Because the problem is, as soon as you start saying it's not my fault, you can't change it. So even if it's not your fault You make it your responsibility. Like, there's lots of things that go on in business. Like, lockdown wasn't my fault. It wasn't my fault at all. But what if I said, hmm, do you know what, my business wasn't ready for this lockdown? I could either go, fucking government, moan, moan, moan, or I could go, I need to prepare my business so that it is unbreakable, and wars and lockdowns and governments in the future will not disrupt my business. That's the decision, isn't it? And then you set up online businesses and you do Zoom classes, and you know, you maybe lean up the overhead a bit and you build up a bit of cash flow, and all of a sudden you're becoming more wealthy by making smart decisions, by taking responsibility for lockdown that you couldn't help. So do you see the thought process here? But the reason this is going to trigger people, and people are going to moan and complain and bitch about me, is because they're not prepared to take responsibility, so they want to blame someone else. And I'm an easy person to blame, aren't I? Shouty, ranty Rob. You do get to choose, you really do. You don't get to choose chaos, random horrible events, but I've got a friend, Mark, Mark Womrod. Two of his legs and one of his arms, both his legs and one of his arms were blown off by a mine, and he's made a choice to be brilliant at jiu-jitsu. He's made a choice to campaign and raise millions for charity. He's made a choice to be an entrepreneur and be wealthy and help many people. And he actually said it was actually quite a good thing that happened to him. He made a choice. That's a very powerful choice. I don't know if I could make that choice. I'm being honest. That would be a really hard choice to make. But he decided to make that choice. He couldn't help that that happened to him, but he can help how he responds to it. You see what I mean? This is fucking important, by the way, because your wealth, your future, your success, what happens in your life, your happiness, it's all based on your perceptions of what happens to you. And it's either someone else's fault or it's yours. It's either someone else's responsibility or it's yours. So being broke is a choice. And you have a choice to join Rob.team. Like, many of you have been watching my lives days and days and days on end. Now I know thousands of people have been joining Rob.team, But many of you haven't, so I'm going to ask you, why not? Like, a large coffee a month, that's all it costs. Anyone can afford that. You're spending that on stuff you don't need more than that. Now look, I don't need the money, and you know, you signing up is not going to make me rich, but could make you rich. So why are you deciding every time watching my videos to do nothing, to do nothing, to do nothing? So you open a new page, you type in rob.team. Do it now. It's easy to sign up. You can cancel anytime. Do you know what you could do? Could be a choice. You could go in and consume all the content going back 3 years and then you could cancel. You could gamify me. I don't care. I just want to help people. Look, I've made a lot of money and I'm going to keep making a lot of money and I can afford to make Rob.team less than a large coffee. But you could do that, by the way. You could try it. Just keep knocking the bloody lamp. So my question is, you know, people are waiting for opportunities, but they're coming, they're coming, they're coming, they're coming. I'm waiting for an opportunity, but there's another, there's another, there's another. I'm just waiting for the right opportunity. Opportunity. There's never the right opportunity, there's never the right time. The right time is now. Rob.team, we've just launched the 9-module, 10-hour How to Invest series, the 21 Ways to Monetize Social Media. I've got the How to Hack Viral Growth course coming, um, I've got How to Automate Sales and Marketing course coming. I've got my 6-Stage 7-Figure Launch Masterclass, How to Build a Personal Brand, Content Creation Masterclass, How to Create Multiple Streams of Recurring Income, various talks. Someone's just cancelled Netflix and joined Rob.team. That's what it's all about. By the way, I'm not knocking Netflix. I like the documentaries and I do like some shows. I just think you look for new shows on Netflix and it's all murder, murder, abuse, murder. What the fuck? I'll see you in Rob.team. I've had enough of a rant. Here's my quick summary. I believe being broke is a choice because, um, being— Bill Gates said if you're born poor, it's not your fault. And I agree, it's not your fault if you're born into the developing third world with no resources and no education, you're born into poverty. I would never disrespect that. In fact, I've got a charity that helps people, um, you know, underprivileged people start meaningful businesses. But broke, i.e., you've got the internet, you've got social media, you know, you're born in a developed country, you've got all these resources and you're doing nothing about it— being broke is a choice. Let me know what you think in the comments. Hit the share button, and I will see you in Rob.team. We've got loads of big events coming up over the next few months, some great Guest millionaire mentors. I'm really bringing it. I'm doing a masterclass course every sort of 10 days now. I'm writing an article twice a week now for Rob.team on starting and scaling a business, getting better financial education and knowledge. Maybe you want to create work from home digital income, multiple streams of recurring income, uh, you know, maybe you want to invest to protect your money from inflation. Maybe you want to turn your content into cash flow, your information into income. What you already know into cash flow. It's all in rob.team. Open a new window, type in rob.team. I'll see you on the other side. It's a choice. What do you choose?
