Childhood Trauma Keeping You Broke

In this motivational video, Rob Moore argues that unresolved childhood trauma can manifest as destructive financial habits that keep people broke. He outlines six common trauma‑driven patterns: (1) a love deficit leading to overspending to buy affection; (2) negative impressions of wealthy role models causing subconscious sabotage of wealth; (3) a need for importance or respect prompting purchases of status symbols; (4) lingering rage or revenge driving wasteful, retaliatory spending; (5) low self‑worth prompting excessive spending on self‑enhancement without real confidence; and (6) the cumulative effect of these voids creating a perpetual cycle of depreciating liabilities. Moore then offers solutions: identify personal values, align wealth‑building activities with those values, replace depreciating purchases with appreciating assets, re‑examine and rewrite the evidence‑based beliefs formed in childhood, and adopt a mindset that treats wealth as a tool rather than a threat. He concludes by promoting his paid financial‑education platform, Rob.team, as a resource for mindset and skill‑set development to “make, manage, and multiply money.”

Your childhood trauma is keeping you broke. Now, you can't help what happened in your past, but you can stop that from ruining your future. And I've got about 6 areas here where your childhood traumas or experiences could be keeping you broken. You don't even know it. So first thing is, I don't know if you ever felt a lack of love growing up. Maybe you had absent parents, or worse, maybe there was some abuse. Um, maybe you had a single parent and you missed a father or mother figure in your life. But if you ever felt a lack of love growing up, you will often use money to buy that love back. So I don't know if you give a lot of money away, or you're overly generous, or you don't really like asking for money, um, or you're— you buy lots of gifts. This is because you had a void of love growing up, a lack of love, and you're continually trying to buy it back. Now, by the way, it's not only buying it back, you're trying to talk it back, get attention, get affection, and get love from people. and it can feel very lonely when you don't. But the point here is I'm talking about money, and this void of lack of love could be a deep financial pit if you don't understand what it is and seek love in other ways than money. The next thing is, have you ever had a bad relationship in your upbringing with anyone who was wealthy? Did you have a, a parent figure an important impressionable figure in your life who was greedy, who, you know, screwed people over for money, or who you just didn't like and they were wealthy. If you ever had that, you could then project that meaning onto anyone with money. And so you're actually sabotaging your own wealth because you're assuming that all 7 people billion people on the planet, or anyone who's rich, is like your uncle or that one figure that you grew up with in your life. By the way, I'm going to give you some solutions at the end of this. The third thing is, if you grew up and you didn't get attention and you didn't feel important and you didn't feel noticed— and this is different from love, um— but if you didn't get the importance feelings that you need, maybe you weren't that good at anything, maybe you were a bit on the outside and you were ostracized in the in the friendship groups, if you did not get that importance and that value and that respect, then you will spend the rest of your life spending money trying to get it. You will try and buy respect, try and buy feeling important. And the problem is buying love and buying respect is very bloody expensive, and it's probably a depreciating liability, not an appreciating asset. And I'll give you the solution in a moment. Next point, this is point number 4. I don't know if you were ever hurt, um, or you felt so much hurt that you turned to rage and revenge. Well, you will use your rage and revenge, and you will spend money on rage and revenge and getting back for the hurt. Um, this is a classic, um, trait of a narcissist, by the way. I'm not calling you a narcissist, but if you were hurt and you seek revenge in any way, you'll spend whatever money you can. You will throw good money after bad, even better money after worse. Seeking revenge and trying to win and trying to bring others down. You know, people who spend like hundreds of thousands on legal cases when it's a waste of time and energy. This is another example if you ever got hurt in your childhood. The fifth thing is, I don't know if you ever felt a void of never being good enough. Did you ever feel not worthy, maybe low self-worth? You never felt good enough. Um, well, if this was the case, then you will spend all your money trying to feel better. You will try to spend all your money to increase your self-worth, whether that is clothes you buy or places you go. You will just— or spending it on lots and lots of courses and mentoring and coaches and therapists without necessarily taking the action because you don't ultimately have the confidence in yourself. Those people who give a load of money to people for investments without doing the proper due diligence, they don't feel good enough to do it, and they seek out others who they perceive are good enough. But they don't do the, um, you know, the research, the diligence, and they don't take the care required. And then they get really upset and angry when they lose money, but then they start beating themselves up, and then that cycle becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. So you— here's some solutions. Now let me know in the comments if any of those can resonate. By the way, these are not judgments. We've all had things in our upbringing which are hard and difficult and traumatic for us. So, if you want some solutions, here we go. Number 1 is you will spend money on what's most important to you in your life. And if feeling loved and respected is most important, you'll spend money on feeling loved and respected. If freedom is most important to you, you'll spend money on freedom. But here's the thing as well. Your voids, i.e., the things that you lack in your life, they create your values, the things that you seek in life. So if you have big voids of wanting to be rich and wanting to be successful and wanting to be respected and wanting to be noticed and wanting to be admired, That void will never fill, and you will spend millions trying to fill it. You might even make millions trying to fill it and then spend millions trying to fill it, and you'll be stuck in that loop of never satisfied and never happy. So here's what you need to do. You need to look at your values, what's most important to you in your life, and you need to link things that will make you money to those values. So I'll give you an example. This is a good one. Um, let's say you want to be respected and admired, and there's nothing wrong with that, by the way. I realized recently, yeah, I want fucking respect. I do. I was honest enough to go, yeah, that's what I want, and it doesn't make me a bad person. So instead of buying depreciating liabilities to try and get respect, why don't you build an investment portfolio and get respect by being a brilliant investor? Or why don't you make a really successful business with a really good profit margin that helps a lot of people, and then use that as the way to get respect from other people? So what you do is the thing that you want, the void that you're trying to fill, instead of using depreciating liabilities and spending money to meet that need, which most of the population do, invest in assets, build wealth, do meaningful work, start a foundation, um, and become an entrepreneur and get your importance and your respect and your value that way. If you change your values, you can do this by the way, If you change what's important to you and you make wealth important to you— by the way, wealth and money are different— but if you change and move up wealth, so instead of looking at all those rich people and thinking that they're all greedy bastards like that one person in your childhood, maybe go, you know what, not every wealthy person screws people over and is greedy, and I want to be one of those good wealthy people, and I want wealth, which is money and well-being. So you can actually change what's important to you to help increase your income. Be very mindful of filling voids. You know, gambling and alcoholism and drug use is filling voids with addictive substances that costs money to temporarily try and repair that hole, but that hole gets bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger. And then the last thing I think is really important to do is get yourself some new evidence. So really, all Your childhood trauma is, is evidence in your childhood to create something that you believe to be true. So let's say you had an uncle who was a nasty screwy-overy kind of business person, made millions and then got put in prison for fraud. You might go, every entrepreneur is like that, every millionaire is like that, every billionaire is like that. But that's false evidence that you've created. Instead, look at that and go, That's the individual person. But actually, look at all these philanthropist billionaires giving all their money away. Look at all these new age entrepreneurs who are for philanthropy and giving back and for the sustainability of the planet as well as making profit. And create new evidence that's empowering to you, because there's more than enough money for us all to be millionaires many times over. So who's got your money? And you know, what you believe to be real is real, not what is real is real. So look, if you would like help with the mindset of money as well as the skill set and tactics of money, if you'd like to make, manage, and multiply money by increasing your self-worth to increase your net worth and to fill those voids so that when you do spend money it's on the right things, like assets instead of liabilities, investments instead of depreciables.
