China Imposes Algorithm Sharing 😳

China forced Alibaba, ByteDance, and other tech giants to publicly disclose roughly 30 core algorithms. ByteDance's interest-gauge algorithm tracks clicks, comments, and likes; Alibaba's uses digital footprints. Analysts say the disclosures are superficial, raising questions about whether transparency actually limits manipulation.

So China have imposed algorithm sharing. I believe this is really huge news. So China have now imposed upon some big Chinese internet giants like Alibaba, like TikTok, they have imposed that they share their algorithm data publicly. Now, a big part of me thinks this is a great move and a hat tip to China for leading the way, because American tech giant companies have resisted sharing their algorithm and have to this date succeeded, saying that it's sensitive business data. But China have managed to get Alibaba, TikTok, and other internet giants to share algorithm data. There is another part of me though that thinks, hmm, government of China getting data of algorithms, that could also be a bit scary. But I'd love to know your thoughts in this, by the way. I personally feel that the rest of the world should follow suit and should have a certain level of open-source transparency on algorithms that these big tech companies use to inform, control, sell, and influence us. So this is actually really huge news. I do think you should share it if you can. Now, what's interesting is when we go a bit deeper. So in the US, Meta, i.e., Facebook, and Alphabet, i.e., Google, have successfully argued that their algorithms are trade secrets, and so they shouldn't have to share them. But now in China, I think 30 algorithms, yeah, 30 algorithms of big tech companies have now been shared for public domain. Okay, so this is the info that's been shared. There's more, you can do your own research. Um, so China's version of TikTok, which is ByteDance, um, apparently it's said to gauge user interests through what they click comment on, like, or dislike. Another one for Alibaba is recommends products or services to users through their digital footprint and historical search data. Now, the head of tech policy research at Trivium China has said that this data appears to be surface level. So what's interesting is algorithms are now being openly shared in China, imposed by, um, the China administration. However, some are saying that the algorithm data is surface level. Look, this to me seems like a positive step. For a long time I've been saying that data on algorithms should be more transparent and open source. Uh, Elon Musk was looking to buy Twitter. Hopefully he still does. And one of the things he said was that he would make data open source, algorithm open source, because it's got to the point where there's this sort of global control of, you know, some of these big internet, big tech companies and the algorithms have become so clever that they can influence and manipulate and track and control and predict. And that could somewhat take us into this Orwellian strange new world order. So I for one embrace the, um, the, the pushing and the imposition of open source data Though, of course, is all the data going to be shared, and is all the data that we're going to see of the algorithms going to be useful enough for us? Are the governments going to start using this data and algorithm information on us? Lots to discuss, lots to share, so I'll see you in the comments. Please also hit the share button because I think this is big news, and I think that we must really discuss this. In detail. You know, the internet is pervasive, it affects all of us, and I think we all now know, you know, when you speak to someone, a friend or a family member, about something, and then all of a sudden it pops up as an ad on your phone. They are listening to us, they are watching us. Whatever you watch, wherever you pause, whatever you click, whatever you scroll, whatever you swipe, all of this data is being fed back onto us. And I think, you know, it's now time that we know what this data is, we know what these algorithms are, and they're more transparent and open source. So I welcome the move in China that they're making 30 of the big tech companies and their algorithms open source and public domain. However, as has been said, the data looks to be surface level, so of course they're going to need to continually be pushed. To share with us what these algorithms really do. So, massive news, I reckon. Let me know what you think in the comments. Hit the share button. And also, I have a training coming up with my business partner on launching your first 6-figure product. And let me know what you think about China imposing open-source transparency on algorithms and data. And is this the start of more fairness and transparency in information and algorithms? Or is this just a way for governments to find it out? And are they really gonna share the real depth of what the algorithms really do. I'd love your thoughts in the comments. Hit the share button now. This message is important. And write yes in the comments to start your first 6-figure product quicker, easier, and cheaper than a physical business or a physical asset.
