Does Money Really Make You Happy?

Rob Moore argues money doesn't buy happiness directly but enables it by funding freedom, health, and experiences. He challenges the idea that wealth corrupts, noting that without money you can't afford quality healthcare or travel. Moore became a millionaire by 30 and deca-millionaire by 35.

They say money doesn't make you happy. Fucking does! Now, I believe most people are wrong when it comes to how money is linked to happiness. Now, where they're right is that money in and of itself cannot create happiness, but it can enable or exaggerate happiness. And here's why. But before I tell you why I believe that money actually does, when all things equal, make you more happy, first, who is it that usually says that money doesn't make you happy, or money doesn't buy happiness? Think about it. Who usually says that? It's usually billionaires or broke people. And broke people wouldn't know because they've never been rich. And billionaires would say that because they've got enough money. So actually, you kind of have to discount billionaires saying, well, money doesn't make me happy. Well, you made $100 billion, so of course you're going to say that. You're way beyond the money happiness level. But then someone who hasn't got any money, how would they even know? How would they even know? So money isn't everything, but it really does help. Exactly. Money doesn't make happiness, but it enables or exaggerates happiness. Money is an enabler. Money tends to exaggerate your existing traits. It's security and freedom and recurring income and choice. Now, if you say to someone who says, well, money doesn't make you happy, Rob, and then you ask them, well, what does make you happy? And they would say freedom and travel and experiences. And then you would say, well, how'd you finance that? Because true freedom and great travel And great experiences are bloody expensive. Great health is bloody expensive. You want to eat the best organic foods, you know, you want to have the best supplements, to be able to exercise well— that costs money. So one of my missions is to help as many people on this planet start and scale their business, but specifically get better financial education. And too many people across the world are making out that you don't need money to be happy, but you actually do. You do, because if you can't travel and if you're not free and you can't put a good roof over your head and pay your bills well and take care of your family and gain some nice experiences, those things make your life richer. So without them, you are less rich. And without health, there is no wealth. So I want to bust these myths because they're wrong. Now, I wrote the UK's best-selling book on money called Money, and I busted a load of myths in that book. So I'm not just, um, shooting off the cuff here. I've got a lot of experience in this subject over 15 years. So the two people, types of people, that usually say that money doesn't make you happy are people who've got so much that it doesn't matter or none that they wouldn't know, and you've got to discount them. Now, here's why I believe money does actually make you more happy. Because if you think about this, in order for you to be able to judge if money makes you happier or less happy, you have to have all other variables removed to measure if it's money that makes a difference. So you have to take a situation where you almost create a parallel universe where everything is the same except the difference is one situation has more money and one situation has less money. Which— in which situation would you be happier? Would you be happier if, if you had good family, good health, good well-being, good mindset, good friendship, and good network? You had all of that and no money. Or all of that and loads of money, which one would you be happier with, all other things equal and constant? Now, no one's going to say, 'I'll be happier with no money.' I don't think anyone is. Why would you? But now, what a lot of people do try and say about money is that it doesn't make you happy. No, what makes you happy is the choice to see the good in your life, to see the upside in the downside, to be present and grateful, to have good experience with good people, to have some form of choice. The— all of these things are what create happiness, and money enables those things, and less money disables those things. I strongly believe this. Money is an enabler. It exaggerates your traits. It fuels things. Now, a lot of people say, well, it's not about material items, Rob, it's about experiences. Well, both cost money. Now, Gandhi and Mother Teresa— I wrote about these in my book Money— were famed for traveling the world and doing good deeds to the poor. And that was bloody expensive. Their travel and their accommodation was bloody expensive. It wasn't free, it needed to be paid. Oh, and do you know where Mother Teresa got many of her donations from? Really rich people. In fact, Robert Maxwell was a large donor, and she saw herself as a virtuous launderer. Cleaner of dirty money. That's how she saw herself. So money gives you freedom, money gives you choice, money gives you travel, money gives you experiences, money gives you health, money gives you well-being, blah blah blah. And all of those things cost a load of money. So if you want those things, you have to focus on the money. You have to invest in yourself, invest into assets, build digital assets, create multiple streams of recurring income, and make money important. So please hit the share button. I would like to change the rhetoric that is spouted about money that is wrong. Even in religious scripture, they say the love of money is the root of all evil. This is wrong. No, no, the love of money isn't the root of all evil. Evil is the root of all evil. It's okay to love money. What's wrong with loving money? You can love money and be a good person. You can be rich and be philanthropic or giving. In fact, it's much easier to be philanthropic and giving when you are rich. You can't fill poor from an empty cup.
