Facebook have just laid off 60 staff at random with an algorithm. So this is big news just in, that Facebook have laid off 60 contractors at random. Now it's probably going to blow up the internet, it's probably going to trigger a lot of anger, but There are very difficult times ahead of us, and you know, many of the biggest companies in the world have had a big drop in revenues, and many that were staffing up for the future have reined in their staffing, and many of these big company owners believe that there are very hard times ahead. Now, being fired or laid off randomly by an algorithm. What are your thoughts on that? Because I can imagine the internet is going to rage with anger that someone would get fired at random by an algorithm. Well, when I say fired there, just to be clear, because people will be saying fired, they were actually contractors, so they weren't technically employed, so they're not technically fired, they're technically laid off. Um, and here's another thing that will probably blow up the internet. They were done, um, they were let go and laid off on a video conference call. So the breaking news just in is that Facebook have laid off 60 contractors randomly, reportedly via an algorithm, and that the workers who were being laid off were informed via a video conference call. No specific reasons were given other than it was random, an algorithm. They weren't immediately offered any jobs, but they were, um, told that they could reapply within 2 weeks. A lot of people are going to be saying fired, a lot of people are going to get angry on the internet. They weren't fired, they were laid off, but it was at random. Essentially by an algorithm, and it was done on a Zoom. So what do you think about this? I would love to know your thoughts. Now, this comes not long after Mark Zuckerberg announced the following. He said that this might be one of the worst downturns that we've seen in recent history. We need to have aggressive performance reviews. And to continue the quote, realistically, there are probably a bunch of people at the company who shouldn't be here. So Mark Zuckerberg, in a Q&A with many of his staff, said that there realistically are a lot of people at Facebook that shouldn't be there, um, and that it could be the worst slump in history. So he kind of is warning people that he might have to make some layoffs. Now, um, I would love to know what you think. Sharon has said, what would you do if it was your job? Pamela said it's stupid. Um, this is what else Mark Zuckerberg has gone on to say: part of my hope by raising expectations and having more aggressive goals And kind of just turning up the heat a little bit is that I think some of you might decide that this place isn't for you, and that self-selection is okay with me. So many of the biggest companies in the world are really struggling right now with the downturn. They're either reducing their aggressive hiring or they're actually regressing in size and making cuts. And Facebook have just laid off 60 contractors apparently at random. Using an algorithm. So I just wanted to let you know the news. I would love to know your thoughts on that in the comments. I've got a couple of thoughts and I'm going to share them with you now. Um, number one is I do think we're coming into very disruptive and difficult times. I do agree with Mark Zuckerberg, it could be one of the worst downturns we've seen in recent history. In that regard, a company can't continue to hire and hire and hire and hire and just pay 'Really high wages and just hire everybody.' Added to that, for Facebook, they've had the competition of TikTok as well, which has really disrupted them. So I certainly agree that there could be a downturn. I also think that many people in employment have got a bit lazy and have got a bit entitled. You know, they call it work from home, I say work fucking harder. And I do think that there are a lot of people, maybe lockdown, like, really messed with their emotions and their confidence, or maybe it just messed with their routine. Or maybe some people got used to working from home and not doing as much and being able to walk the dog and have a side hustle while being paid by your employer. And let's do 3 days a week and get paid the same. And I do think that there has become a little bit more entitlement in work culture. I do think the work culture, certainly in the UK, needs to increase. I think if the economy is going to fire up again, I think if the world's going to change, I think if your life's going to change, I think if we're going to go from austerity to prosperity, I think if if we're going to rebuild, I think if we're going to stop inflation, stop massive taxation, stop the soaring cost of living crisis, the only real way we're going to do that is more productive, more effective, build more, work more. And a lot of people want to do less. So in some ways I do agree with Mark Zuckerberg about, you know, being more aggressive with the goals and maybe being a bit more aggressive with the hiring and the letting go of staff. Chiwala said here, 'Stop working for these large companies.' Um, so I would love to know your thoughts. Um, but for me, uh, well, I'm not going to say what I think about the randomness of the letting go of the staff. I personally wouldn't let go of my staff randomly. I would let go of my staff if it's the right thing to do to let go of them, and I would keep the good ones. Um, So yeah, let me know your thoughts. One thing I can say for sure is this: you are responsible for your life, your work, your ethic, your hustle, your drive, your income streams, your success. So, um, you know, I've got a company, we've got around about 100 staff, and that's in the office. We've got many more that work from home and are contractors. And I know damn well that there's a list of 30 to 40 people that I'd never get rid of. I'd pay them myself if I had to, personally. Then there's probably another 30 or 40 that I think are good. You know, and then there's some that, you know, if we had to make cuts, maybe they would be the first to go, because this is just the reality. No two human beings are the same level of quality and output. So I can see it from an employer's point of view, but here's the thing. If you are good at your job, if you work hard, if you offer value, and/or if you manage your own, um, side hustles and start your business and scale your business and you invest in assets and you produce multiple streams of recurring income. If you do this, you're never going to get affected by mass layoffs, you're never going to get affected by inflation or increase in taxation or government intervention or some kind of random external act because you are in full control of your life. Part of my hope by raising expectations and more aggressive goals, and just kind of turning up the heat a little bit, is that some of you might decide that this isn't the place for you, and that self-selection is okay with me. I.e., Mark Zuckerberg has said, "Shouldn't be here, leave." And he's turning up the omelette. Sweatometer to get people to leave. What do you think about that?
