How to Invest 10k

Rob Moore breaks down how to split $10,000 across gold, Bitcoin, stocks, watches, and a membership business. He puts 20% in physical gold, 5-10% in Bitcoin, 20-25% in a stocks-and-shares ISA, 10% in collectible watches like the Moon Swatch, and the rest into starting a low-cost membership site.

How to invest $10K. Now I get asked daily, how should I invest $10K, $20K, $50K, $100K, you name it. So I thought I'd start a little series and let you know how I would invest $10K. Now look, of course this isn't financial advice. Though I wonder if most financial advice you might get from a professional independent financial advisor— I wonder if it is independent, and I wonder if it is— it takes into account things like decentralization of assets and not just diversification of assets. So if I were you and I had $10K to invest, I would make sure 10 to 20% of it was invested in a physical asset. Now, as it's $10K, you can't go and buy a load of real estate, which is a physical asset, so you might want to buy a gold coin. You can get a Krugerrand, that's within a budget of $10K. You could look at a Sovereign or Britannia coin. Um, but I wouldn't invest the whole $10K into one thing because that, um, there's no diversification in that. The problem with $10K is it's not a lot of money that you can diversify it very much. So I definitely want about 20% of it at least in something physical and tangible. And so I'd probably— I mean, I like to buy Krugerrands, 99.9% gold, um, very tradable, um, very stable value. Some people say to me, Rob, should I buy silver? Silver, yeah, okay, you know, it's another precious metal, and at times its price might look better than gold, for example. But in the long run, gold's the one, um, because it's less heavy relative to its value, so you can buy more of it and store it. Now, the downside of gold is you've got to store it. You're probably not going to want to insure it, though you might want it insured. But, and what I mean by you might not want to insure it is you might not want to pay for the insurance, but it needs to be well stored. You need either a safe or a safety deposit box. Now, some people like to buy gold digitally. I don't. If I'm buying gold, it's physical, and the reason I'm buying it is because I'm hedging against currency deflation, really high inflation, currency debasement. Otherwise, there's no real benefit to buying gold other than a very gentle increase per year. Now, the thing with gold is it's a good hedge against the currency debasement. It's good, it's physical, it's real, it's material, it's worth something. Even beyond currency, you can use it. Like I said, the downside is you've got to store or insure it, and it doesn't produce an income tax, doesn't produce income. Okay, so that's about 20%, I'm gonna say. I'd probably put 10% into Bitcoin. I probably would 5 to 10%. Now, if I had a larger pot, I'd have a lower percentage. So if I had 100 grand or a million that I'm recommending what I'd do with it, I'd probably invest max 5% in Bitcoin personally. Now, I think it's good to have a little bit of Bitcoin, so 5% in this instance, maybe 10% of 10 grand, because again, it's quite decentralized. Um, it's probably got a long way to go up, though of course none of us know. I wouldn't put it in any other cryptos. I think most other cryptos are risky, they're volatile, um, they can go to the moon and go to zero. I think Bitcoin's the one that's probably been proven. It's very different to most other cryptos because it's probably the only properly purely decentralized cryptocurrency. So I'm looking at about 20% of your 10K into gold, about 10% of your 10K into Bitcoin. Then I think you should probably put maybe 20% into your ISA, into the stock market, into a stock market, a stocks and shares ISA, not a cash ISA. So by the way, if I were to rename this video How Not to Invest 10K, that would be cash. That would be government bonds. That would be any asset— asset, shit, shit— yeah, any asset that is getting beaten by inflation. Now, when inflation is really high, it's beating many assets, but over the long term, cash loses to inflation. Cash goes down in value. Government bonds and anything backed by the government are really low return. And why would you accept a really low return? Because you'd want a really low risk. But the problem at the moment is anything backed by the government, whether that's a bond or money in, in the banks, the central banks, I think that that's not as safe as it used to be and not as low risk as it used to be. So anyway, that's kind of what I wouldn't do. Now Mick has said here, watches, question mark. Now I love investing in watches. I think the best watch to invest in for long-term capital appreciation that's proven is a Rolex Daytona steel. You'd probably start with an all-steel Rolex Daytona first, and then you might move into an all-gold when you've got the budget. You might get a 2005, 2006 kind of range one at the start. They're a little bit cheaper than the newer ones right now. I think they represent really good value. Problem is you ain't getting one of them for 10 grand. You'd be lucky if you get one of them for 20 grand. So unfortunately, that's going to have to be for another video, Mick. But a lot of people say, oh, you shouldn't be materialistic. I don't agree. I do not agree. All right, you shouldn't let your materials rule you. Um, they make a great servant and a terrible master. But with currency debasement, really high inflation, and cash being devalued really hard, the quantitative easing and the massive printing of government money and reducing the money. Actually, cash is trash, and a physical material asset is better than cash. And Rolex Daytonas are freaking, freaking great. Maybe in another video I'll do a bit more about how to invest in watches if you want to. Now, a great watch to get, if you can get one from the shop, is an Omega Swatch. So you get an Amiga Swatch for £207. So go to London, go to the Swatch shops on— I think there's one on Oxford Street— and just go in and ask them if they've got an Amiga Swatch. Buy as many of them as you can. Now, I've gone in a few times and they're always out of stock, and you know when they're in stock because there's a massive queue. I've actually bought, um, my— I bought most of the Amiga Swatches, by the way. Um, and I've ended up getting them on eBay and I've paid a premium. But actually, some of the Amiga Swatches now, they're only going for sort of £120 premium. So they're new £207, and, um, you know, some of them you now get in the early £300s. I, I don't normally buy things that are premium, but that's actually not bad. So if you wanted a couple of watches in your £10 grand, get an— get an Amiga Swatch. Um, the most valuable one seems to be the Neptune, which is like the blue color. That's gone now to about 3 grand. Um, the Tiffany colored one, I think that's Uranus. Um, I think that's really good value now. I think that you can get that in the 300s. If you can get them new, great. Get a couple of them at least. All right, so let me just put you in the picture of where we are. How to invest 10K? I reckon about 20% in something physical like gold. And physically own it, by the way. I reckon 10% in something like Bitcoin. They're both decentralized and gold is physical. I reckon about 20% of it in your stocks and shares ISA. Now you should be putting the maximum you can in your stocks and shares ISA every year. I use Hargreaves Lansdown, the app, the self-investing app, and I use that to invest in stocks and shares and in Max My ISA every year. And it's tax-free. I think £25,000 a year you get tax-free in your ISA. Not— don't do a cash ISA because cash is trash and it's going down in value. But do a stocks and shares ISA and put as much as you can in every year. Try and get to the point where you're hitting that max, and then one day maybe you'll become an ISA millionaire. All right, so now with that, you've probably invested about 6 of the 10 grand. 2 or 3 Amiga Swatches, 20-ish percent, maybe a little bit more, in your stocks and shares ISA, about 10% in Bitcoin, and about 20%, or enough to get a Krugerrand, um, a gold coin, or maybe a Britannia, um, or a Sovereign, a physical fully gold coin. They're about that big. In fact, I'll get one, um, and I'll show you sometime. Okay, right. And then the rest I would use to start your business. So you haven't got enough money yet at 10 grand to get into real estate, um, but what I would do with the rest, 4 to 5 grand, is I would start your own business. Now if you want to know from me, Rob, what's the best business to start with less than 5 grand for a standing start, I'm going to say membership sites. I love real estate. I love training businesses. Do you know, I worked out we've done more than £120 million just in training and education. It might even be approaching £130, £140. So training is a great business because you don't need stock and you don't necessarily need premises. You know, information into income, content into cash flow. But you know, you might— to build a proper training company, you might need a bit more money. But to build our membership site like Rob.team, for example, you don't need virtually any money. You can launch it on Patreon, which is a decentralized platform for you to put content on. You can take payment, you can upload content. It's got an app, they can pay and consume monthly. There's a community element, and you don't have to pay up front for Patreon, I believe. I believe that you just pay a percentage of the subscribers. So you should charge about a tenner. You should find a niche and turn your passion into your profession. And you should spend the money on building out the platform, getting a little bit of video equipment to do your Zooms or your lives, you know, a decent phone, a tripod. Even then, you've still probably got 3 grand of that left, and then maybe spend 3 grand on the marketing and the admin. And if you do what I do, by the way, which I'm gonna do now, which is if you mention your membership site every single day, you could get 1, 3, 5 new members a day. If you get 3 new members a day, that's $11,000 a month within a year. If you get 5 new members a day, that's more than $15,000 a month within a year. So not bad. We're actually doing a how to raise money for property and business Sunday session in 2 weeks' time. So if you open up a new web page, type rob.team into a new web page right now, go join Less than a large coffee, cancel anytime, no ongoing contract. Get the 4-hour Membership Site Mastery 6-Figure Subscriptions Masterclass because I believe if you've got 10 grand to invest, 4 to 5 grand of it is best to start a business. And a great business to start that's low cost and high recurring revenue is a membership site. And you can learn to do what I've done. Do you know I've gained 2,140 members in the last 130 days for Rob.team? And I'll show you how you can do the same just doing lives like this. Um, so quick summary: if I had $10K only— because I get asked all the time, how'd you invest $10K? Um, I want it to be a bit diversified, but you can't diversify $10K too much. I want some of it to be decentralized and out of the system. I want some of it to be physical and some of it to be digital. So the physical is going to be gold. I'm going to buy a gold coin like a Sovereign Britannia or Krugerrand. Should be about 20% of your 2 grand depending on the price. Then about 10% is going to go into Bitcoin, no more because still fairly new, but it's decentralized and it's out of the system. About 20-25% is going to go into a stocks and shares ISA, self-invested, so you don't pay extra fees to a broker. You want to max that ISA every year, not a cash ISA. Uh, you're going to probably look at seeing if you can get a couple or three Amiga Swatches. If you can get them in the Swatch— they're only sold in Swatches, Swatch shops, and they're hard to get. And that's why they're £207 new, but they're going on eBay for £355, £700, a grand or more. I've seen some of the Neptunes go for £3 grand. But if you can get one new at £207, get 2 or 3. If you can get them on eBay in the low $300s, I still think that's pretty good money, and keep them. And that's going to leave you about $4,000, $4,500, and the rest of that you're going to put into building your own membership site just like Rob.team. And if you want a 4-hour masterclass on learning how to start and scale your own membership site too, just like Rob.team, join Rob.team. Cost you less than a large coffee. You can cancel anytime.
