How to Invest 1k to 5k 💵

In this YouTube monologue, Rob Moore explains why cash is a liability and outlines a concrete, step‑by‑step plan for turning £1,000–£5,000 into a diversified portfolio. He argues that successful investing requires a blend of physical and intangible assets, decentralized and centralized holdings, and a mix of passive and active strategies. He recommends buying physical gold (Krugerrand or sovereign coins) and an entry‑level luxury watch (Omega MoonSwatch) as counter‑currency assets, while allocating the remainder to a stocks‑and‑shares ISA (via Hargreaves Lansdown) for diversified equity exposure. He introduces pound‑cost averaging to mitigate timing risk, stresses the importance of tax‑efficient accounts, and urges viewers to invest in their own education. With any remaining capital, he suggests launching a low‑cost online information business (membership site or course) and promotes his own membership platform, Rob.team, which offers masterclasses, tax‑reduction training, and a 9‑module “How to Invest” series. Throughout, he blends practical advice with persuasive calls to action, positioning his own resources as the optimal way to learn, earn, and invest.

How to invest £1K to £5K, part 2. So here's the thing: cash is not an asset. Cash is not an investment. I get asked every single day, hey Rob, how do you invest a grand? How do you invest £5 grand, £10 grand, £20 grand, £50 grand? I got asked how'd you invest £800 grand. I got asked how'd you invest £5 million. So It seems on a daily basis I am helping people to manage their investments. Now, I'm not an independent financial advisor, so I'm just giving you my opinions and experience of doing this for nearly 2 decades. But I'm going to give you a specific, practical, and tactical plan on how to invest $1,000 to $5,000 in this short video. I will give you some specific things you could invest in, but I'll also give you a generic plan just in case certain classes you like more or like less. Now, um, it doesn't matter how much you have to invest, um, it matters how well you invest what you have. So you might think, oh, I've only got a grand, or I've only got 5 grand, or I've only got 100, and you might think that there's not much that you can do. This is actually not true. How you do anything is how you do everything. So how you manage a grand is likely to be how you'd manage a million. And if you manage a grand well, then you'll build to 5 grand, 10 grand, 25 grand, 50 grand, 100 grand, and a mil. So here we go. Are you ready? Give me a yes in the comments if you are ready. I'm going to build you up a little bespoke plan on how to invest £1,000 to £5,000. And by the way, if you have a larger lump of money— £50,000, £100,000, £500,000, a mil, £5 mil, £10 mil— and you want a bit of help and guidance— not financial advice, my financial experience— email support@robmoore.com. I'll do your plan as long as I don't get a zillion requests. I did one for someone for £5 mil. I did one for someone for £800,000. I'm more than happy to help. I don't want your money because I don't invest other people's money. I have done, my business partner, but we have our own money, so you can, you know, safe in the knowledge that I'm here to help. Okay, right, so I need to sort of set the scene real quick, and that is cash is not an asset, and cash money and savings is not an investment, it's a liability. Cash is going down hard in value, it's not an asset, it's a liability. Savings are not an investment, and so you need to get out of cash money as quickly as you can. Now, there's two reasons that you save cash money, and it is not for your retirement, it is not for an investment, it is not an asset. Cash makes you broke, assets make you rich. So the only two reasons you save money, number one, is is to teach you the discipline to stop spending, and 2, to build a pot to invest. Because if you think about inflation, it's probably 15%. If you think about since the lockdown, money's probably gone down 30%. They're quantitative easing again, they're printing more money, and all of this devalues your cash money. So fundamental rule number 1, cash money is a liability, not an asset. It's going down 10, 15% or more a year, and therefore save to discipline and save to build an investment pot. Now of course, if inflation was 2% and interest rates were 10%, that would be different, but that's not where we're at. Okay, cool. So how to invest between 1 and 5 grand, right? I think you should take some notes here. So the first thing is I think you want some physical as well as some intangible. So intangible, I see, is anything that's on the internet or you don't physically touch. And then physical is something that you physically touch. So physical would be gold, would be watches, would be real estate property. And then intangible would be in the stock market, in Bitcoin, um, certain types of businesses like internet businesses, et cetera. They would be more intangible. So I think it's really important that you have some physical as well as non-physical. The next thing— and you should be writing this down as an investment plan— the next thing is you want some decentralized as well as centralized. So, um, the stock market is centralized, i.e., someone else is controlling your money. Um, whereas Bitcoin is decentralized in that no entity is controlling your money. Gold I see as decentralized because when you own it physically, no other entity is controlling your money. If you have a property with a big mortgage on it, I, I'd sort of argue that's actually centralized because the mortgage company actually own your property. And if you're not sure who really owns your property when you've got a mortgage. Don't pay the mortgage for 3 months, you'll soon find out. So you want some physical and some intangible, and you want some decentralised as well as centralised. Then also you want some passive and some active. So passive might be the stock market, but of course when you've got a grand, you're not going to become a millionaire out of the stock market. Um, whereas active might be starting your own business, like for example a membership site. So a bit of passive and a bit of active. Now, the more money you have, the more passive investments you can invest in. The less you have, the more active sweat equity you need to put in because you're making up for lower funds. So the higher you go, the more passive. The lower you've got, the more active. Okay, cool. So are we ready? So I'm going to give you a couple of physical things that you can invest in between 1 and 5 grand. One would be gold and one would be, um, the MoonSwatch Amiga watch. Well, it's an Amiga Swatch collaboration. So if you've got up to £5,000 to invest, you could get yourself a Krugerrand or some gold sovereign coins. These are going to cost you a few hundred quid up to a couple of grand. They're physical. I wouldn't have them stored in a vault. I wouldn't have them digital. I'd actually have them physical. Right now gold is quite strong, and as inflation goes up and the trust in currency goes down, generally physical precious metals— gold, silver— they generally tend to do well. I think it's also good to have counter-currency assets right now because currency is being really devalued. The pound's freaking weak. Inflation is super high. Quantitative easing is really high. So, um, look, if you've only got a grand to invest— when I say only, it's a start, you know, every winner was once a beginner, every master was once a disaster— if you've got a grand, get yourself, um, an Omega Swatch MoonSwatch. Now, if you can get them new in an Omega store in London or a major city, that's great. It will cost you £207. They'll immediately be worth £300, £350, £400, £500. On the resale market. And Omega is a make of watch, and the MoonSwatch is their lowest price entry watch, which is a collaboration with Swatch. And I think there's a good chance that they could be, um, they probably won't do that collab forever, therefore they're likely to go up. But they're a nice entrance into a physical asset. You could go and get them on the resale gray market on somewhere like eBay If you're paying in the low $300s, you're probably doing all right. Now Benjamin has said gold isn't doing well at the moment. I'm glad someone said this because, um, how something is doing now is not as relevant as how it's done for hundreds of years and how it might do for the next decades. So if gold isn't doing well at the moment, for example, then would it not be a good time to buy? And has gold done well over time? Um, because here's the thing, how's money done over time, Benjamin? Like, um, £800 would buy you a Rolex Daytona in 1979. Now, £25,000 to £30,000 will buy you a Rolex Daytona. So the value of money has done that, but the value of the asset has done that. So actually, money has done the worst, and then gold goes up. So you've got to get your head beyond that. How well is it doing today? What are the prices today? That's a trader mentality, and I don't think a trader mentality is actually building long-term wealth. I think it's for a bit of short term. So if an asset isn't doing well today, it could mean it's a good price, Benjamin. But, um, you've got to look at history, because if it's not doing well today but it's only been around for a few years, could be on its way out, like a lot of cryptocurrencies. Now, um, someone has said here silver is due to take over gold. The reason I don't think that's the case, Darren, is because silver is obviously heavier in, in that it's worth less, and it's therefore storage issue. You have to buy a lot more of it. And I believe that there's a more scarce amount of gold than there is silver. So basically, the more scarce it is, the more it's worth. Platinum's worth more than gold, and gold is worth more than silver. Now they'll have their own peaks and troughs of price, and they'll have their own different tracking for price. The reason I like gold better is because it's easy to store and it's more scarce. But you could also buy some silver. But that, you know, by the way, is it cheaper to get into silver than it is in gold? So if you want to get into a precious metal and you only have a few grand, maybe you start with some silver. But you can buy the Krugerrand and the Sovereign The gold coins. So, um, first, um, thing I would suggest is physical. I would get into either, um, gold and/or the Omega Swatch Moon Swatch for a few hundred quid up to a couple of grand. Try not to be too concerned of the current price. If you're gonna buy, hold, die, the current price is nowhere near as relevant. You can only buy when you're ready. And the longer you wait, the more cash is going down with inflation, so it's actually costing you to wait. So I do what's called pound cost averaging. Now, pound cost averaging is where you don't put all your money in. So let's say you've got 10 grand to buy gold, and let's say a Krugerrand is 2 grand, just for ease. I'll buy one now, one in a month, one in a month, one in a month, and one in a month instead of buying them all now in case the price changes and, um, you know, my timing isn't great. So that's called pound cost averaging. Okay, so you're either going to get an Omega MoonSwatch, uh, go and do your research on that, go and check out the prices, track the prices, or you're going to buy some silver or gold as your physical element, the counter currency. The next thing that you could look into is setting up your ISA, and I think it's really important to leverage any tax-free allowances that you can get. There aren't many of them, but But the ISA, which is your tax-free savings and investment in the stock market allowance, you should be maxing. So what you're going to do is set up an account on Hargreaves Lansdown so that you can self-invest without a broker and without an IFA where they're going to take all their share and fees. You can— so go set up on Hargreaves Lansdown, and then what you're going to do is you're going to set up an ISA. It's really easy to do. Now you can have up to £25,000 a year for yourself and your partner, £9,000 for your kids, so you can actually max with 2 and 2, £50,000 plus £18,000 in an ISA, and ISAs are tax-free. Now if you've only got £200, start your ISA and put £200 in, and then as you build up money, try and get that ISA up and up and up. If you max your ISA every year, in 20 years you might end up being an ISA millionaire, or 30 years depending on how the stock market does. And I invest in my ISA, I max it every year, and I'll invest into a, um, you know, may— maybe a FTSE 100 managed fund, something like that. Okay, I, I like the, the stock market to be diversified. I'm not buying individual stocks unless I'm trading, and I wouldn't really call it risking— I'm sorry, investing. I'd call it more, um, risk. Okay, so, uh, the next thing you probably want to do is you want to educate yourself, because when people think about investing, they don't think about their education. But I'll come back to that in a moment. I'll finish on the education, because the more you learn, the more you earn. So, um, Brian Tracy said you should invest 10% of what you earn, or the value of your car, a year in your education. Because the more you learn, the more you earn. And then when you've got knowledge, you can actually do assets and investments and businesses no money down and other people's money down. Yes, an ISA is super safe. Um, yeah, one of the safest asset classes around, safer than cash. Oh, by the way, in your ISA, don't do cash ISA, do stocks and shares ISA. Okay, so I'll come back, I'll finish on education part. Um, so the next thing I would recommend that you're going to do is you're going to start an online business. So, um, if you've got 5 grand and you put 2 grand into gold and you've bought a couple of Omega MoonSwatches and you've put maybe 1 to 2 grand in the, the stock market, we'll come back to education. You've probably got a grand or two left, and if you've got a grand, you've probably got a few hundred left. And what you— what I recommend that you do is you start an online information business, because an information business only costs you the hosting to set up. You might have a bit of recurring for building up a platform, like if you sign up on Kajabi or if you sign up on Patreon, you know, you might have a, a small monthly fee, but you can afford it within your grand or within your 5 grand. And I would start an information business selling either online courses or membership, your, your membership site. Give me a yes in the comments, by the way, if you're a member of Rob.team. Give me a yes in the comments if you are. So Rob.team cost me less than $100 to set up. We're approaching 10,000 members at £6 a month, so you can do the maths on that. And it's cost me virtually no money to actually run the program. You could do it on your own because you could record all the content on an iPhone or on your laptop on Zoom. So it's actually a brilliant way to turn active energy into recurring income streams. I can see lots of people saying yes, they're a member. So let's move it around nicely to this education part. Um, so let's say you've got a grand. If you've got a grand, you're probably gonna put 20% into— 20-25% into precious metal. And, um, if you can't quite afford that, you're going to wait until you can get enough to get— because I think a gold sovereign, I think you can get for a few hundred quid. You're gonna get a Moon Swatch Amiga Swatch collab, probably going to cost you £207 to £350. You're going to put a couple of hundred quid into an ISA via Hargreaves Lansdown in, uh, diversified FTSE 100 or S&P 500 stocks and shares investment, and then you've got a couple of hundred quid left where you can educate yourself and launch your own membership site. There you go, pretty good leverage of a grand. So if you'd like to invest in that education— learn, earn, invest— learn how to build a membership site, learn how to turn your ideas into income, your content into cash flow, and your information into income, I recommend joining Rob.team. So yeah, just go join rob.team right now. Let me scroll down and see if I've got any questions. Alison has said, why Hargreaves Lansdown? Well, look, you could use Charles Stanley, you could use Vanguard. I like Hargreaves Lansdown because I find it simple to use, really practical, and it's just one of the best. But you could use Charles Stanley, you could use Vanguard. It just allows you to invest yourself rather than using a broker or an IFA, and the fees are much lower. Yeah, yes, I did say that gold is counter currency, and what I mean by that is that, um, the more inflation and the more quantitative easing and the harder cash goes down and the less trust there is in currency, the more we need other things that could replace a currency. Of course, gold is probably the go-to one, and it was when we had the gold standard before 1971. So yeah, generally as fiat paper money goes down, gold is normally firm. Generally. Obviously there's, you know, prices aren't directly linear. Like, you now, you normally see the stock market is doing well, Bitcoin is, and if it isn't doing well, the stock market, then Bitcoin isn't. But they're also independent. So you get these assets that sort of link together but they're also independent. So yeah, cool. So go join rob.team if you'd like to learn more about this stuff. If you'd like 10 hours of deep dive live online masterclasses from your phone anywhere in the world on investing and all the different types of assets— someone has asked me about watches in the comment— we go through all the best watches to invest in from £207 up to £100,000. We go through the precious metals, we go through some of the cryptos, we go through investing in the stock market. We talk about real estate. Now, by the way, I have— the reason I haven't talked about real estate in this one is because you're not going to be able to get a deposit with $1,000 to $5,000, but you are going to be able to learn no-money-down investing strategies, how to raise finance. Here's the thing, in rob.team I've got the How to Raise Finance Masterclass, so you're going to learn how to raise finance to start your business. How to raise finance to do property with other people's money. This is all in rob.team. But of course, with £1,000 or £5,000, you don't have the finance to invest. That's why I say you've got to spend some of that money on your education. You've got to invest in yourself. You are your best asset. You pay yourself the best return. So invest in yourself wisely. And the best way to do that, I believe, is to join Rob team, because it costs less than 20, 20, 20, 20 pence a day, and you can cancel any time. And there's hundreds of hours of online courses going back since the lockdown. The reason the price is virtually nothing is because I wanted to support so many people, um, when the lockdown started. But the thing is, it's not free, because free advice is worth every penny, but when you pay, you pay attention. So I'll see you in rob.team. Ah, another point, just type in rob.team. One more thing, your tax is your biggest expense. So guess what? In the rob.team membership area, I have got a 90-minute masterclass on how to get your tax down, the top ways that you can take that 20%— sorry, 19% corp tax and 40% income tax and get it right down. Imagine paying less tax and removing your biggest expense, which is tax. So there's a deep dive masterclass on getting your tax down as well from my tax accountant, who has saved me millions of pounds in tax and charged me hundreds of thousands of pounds in the process. And you can get that masterclass completely for free for joining Rob.team. How cool is that? So I can't really give you anything more than giving you my Lamborghini and all my money and all my gold and all my watches. So open a new window, window on the internet, any page, and just type in rob.team. Learn and invest. The 9-module, 10-hour How to Invest series, the 21 Ways to Monetize Social Media, the How to Raise Money for Business Masterclass, the How to Raise Money for Property Masterclass. You name it, it's in rob.team. So I'll see you there. B, dot, T, E, A, M. See you in the members area. See you in the WhatsApp group with me. Go do it now. Oh, and remember, if you don't risk anything, you risk everything.
