How to Invest With Zero to 5k

Rob Moore shows how to start investing with under £5k by cutting expenses by £200-500 monthly, asking for cash gifts instead of presents, and opening a self-directed ISA. He argues knowledge matters more than capital, and suggests building a personal brand or membership site to generate extra income for investing.

How to invest if you have no money up to £5,000 or dollars. So I recently did a how to invest 10K. It got tens of thousands of views, and I got a lot of feedback that it was really good and practical and tactical. But many people said, what if you don't have 10K? What if you have 1K? What if you have less than 1K? What if you have 0K? So I'm going to share with you 5 or 6 practical, tactical, and useful steps anyone can take to invest, to learn how to invest, to build your investment portfolio if you have anywhere between zero and 5 grand. Now, this is not financial advice. Go and do your own financial research. I am not an independent financial advisor, yada yada. Should kind of make sense. I'm not going to blow my own trumpet, but I probably make more money than virtually all independent financial advisors out there. And I've been an entrepreneur for 20 years, and I invest heavily myself, so it's coming from my own experience. But do your own research. Caveat done. Okay, so if you have zero funds, your problem you think is money, but it's not money. Your problem is that you don't know how to make enough money to invest money. So the best way to start investing when you have zero to $5K is to invest in your knowledge and education. You are your best asset. Invest in yourself wisely. You pay yourself the greatest return. Because if you think about it, if you have no money or low money, you're in this quandary of, well, I have low money and no money, therefore I can't invest, but I don't know how to get more money to invest. And I can't make more money because I haven't got any more money to invest. So I understand this quandary, paradox, vicious cycle that you're in. So you need to change your mindset initially from investing in physical assets— gold, real estate, buying businesses, Rolex Daytonas, whatever— you need to shift your mindset from there and shift your mindset to investing in yourself. Remember, I say this all the time: you are your best asset. Invest in yourself wisely because you pay yourself the best return. Now actually, if you have zero in your account, the only way to add money into your account is to learn before you earn. You have to learn to earn. Um, in life you don't get what's fair, you get what you tolerate. What you tolerate is what you put up with, your standards, what you accept. And what your standards and what you accept are linked to what you negotiate— the deals you negotiate, the salary, the commissions, your time value. So actually, you don't get what's fair, you get what you negotiate. So if you learn negotiation skills, for example, you are going to make more money because you're going to get higher salaries, higher fees, higher commissions, higher prices. More share of a bigger cake and a bigger slice of the bigger pie. So invest in yourself. Remember that you are your greatest asset, because here's the thing: you could have a million pounds and no knowledge, and you will turn that million pounds to zero in 1 to 5 years with no knowledge. If you— if what you know is gambling and addictions and spending on depreciating liabilities, and you get millions that money is going where your previous money has gone. Whereas you could have zero, but you know how to start and scale businesses. You just maybe started again, or maybe, um, you know, you had one business go under, but you've had businesses that have been successful. They can take your money and your assets away from you, but they can't take what you learned and who you became in the process. So how can you educate yourself? So I'm going to make the assumption you go, you've got zero, because this is a zero to 5K. So for example, you could listen to free podcasts. So I have a podcast called Money, just Google Money Podcast Rob Moore, something like that. Um, you could get your free credits on Audible. I shouldn't say this because I'm doing myself out of a couple of quid net, but, um, you get free credits on Audible. The more books you buy, the more free credits you get. So you could use your free credit or two every month and get 1 to 2 books a month. So podcasts are free, free credits on Audible are free. You could get my book Money, for example, learning how to make, manage, master, and multiply money. So free podcasts, books on credit until you've got some money, and then you can start paying for books. Getting advice from successful people, following top influencers. Hopefully you feel like I give you really good value. So if you follow people who are credible, who've got the results, who are where you want to be, and then you can do their Q&As and their ask me anythings, and you can join their membership sites like I have Rob.team. Rob.team is less than 20 pence a day, so anyone can afford to invest in themselves by joining Rob.team, my digital financial education platform. But I'll come back to that. So step 1 on your zero to 5K, how to invest, is education. The more you learn, the more you earn. Free podcasts, free book credits, getting advice from people on social media, and maybe even trying to blag some lunches. I used to blag lunches with millionaires and even a couple of billionaires back in the day when I didn't have much money, because I realized I had the sweat equity more than the capital equity. I realized that energy is money, and so if I could show really good energy, people would buy into that. Okay, the second thing you need to do then— I'm going to cover about 5 tips here. Practical, tactical standing start. The second thing is you need to look at what you're spending and you need, you need to cut £200 to £500 or dollars a month in expenses. Anyone can actually do that. Now look, if you earn a couple of grand, maybe £200 is realistic, or dollars, you know, 10%, 15%. But right now you probably can save 10-15% of what you're spending, and that could be £200 to £500 or dollars. And then every month you've got £200 to £500 or dollars to invest. So a lot of people are, oh, I don't have the money, so help me. But actually, start managing your money better and you'll make more of it. You will not make or retain more money until you learn to manage better what you already have. And you know, some people can become millionaires only earning a few grand a month, but investing a surplus, never spending more than they earn. So look at your expenses, look at your budgets, look at your personal finances and accounts, and see how you can shave off £200 to £500 or dollars in spending. And then every month you've got a $200 to $500 shooting fund to go and invest. And you know, that might not sound like a lot to start, but how you do anything is how you do everything. So actually that can really build things up. And by the way, when you start investing, you're going to have a couple of losses. So it's probably better to lose $200 than it is $2 million. So you kind of want to have your practice run with your $100, $200, $500. Learn while you earn. Because some people say, oh, you should have dummy accounts, or never invest any money in anything you don't understand. And I get that because they don't want you to lose money. But the problem is, if you wait until you fully understand something and you fully have enough money to invest, you may never start. So sometimes you've got to go in, you've got to put £100 in the FTSE 100 or the S&P 500 through Hargreaves Lansdown, and you've never used the app before, and you've paid the money and you're like, has it gone into the account? Ah! And some— at some point you've got to put some money into Bitcoin and figure out how to open the accounts and do your, your wallets and everything else. So actually, I do believe that you should live invest, but you just start really small. So if you can save an extra £200 to £500, then I'm going to give you 2 or 3 things you can do with an extra £200 to £500 or dollars every month. So if you ever get given any birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, anniversary gifts, any gifts you ever get Ask people to invest for you. So maybe they could invest into Bitcoin for you. Maybe they could invest in— invest through Hargreaves Lansdown into your ISA for you. Maybe they could buy you some kind of— maybe they could buy you Audible book vouchers, and then you can go and grab a load of books. So a lot of people, they are getting all these gifts they're not really interested in, and they're just not asking for useful things. So If someone got me as a gift some vouchers for Audible credit, I'd just be blown away. That would be awesome. And then I could buy books on money and investing, and, and that £50 gift donation they may give me could end up turning into a 10x or more return. Far better than anything that— because it's awkward, isn't it, when someone wants to buy you something and they don't really know what you want, and they don't really think it's what you want, and it's not really what you want, and you haven't really got the heart to say So, um, just ask people, hey look, Christmas, birthday, anniversaries, gifts— not— don't tell everyone, obviously. Hey you, dude, my birthday is on the 4th of Jan, by the way. My birthday's on the 4th of Jan, just, just saying. So if people give you things you could turn into investment, then pretty good. Do you know, you can— I think there's, there's a certain gold coin you can get from the Royal Mint that's about £300 and something. That'd be a cool gift. All right, great. Um, the next thing then is you want to make sure you have a Bitcoin account wallet set up so that you can actually put money into Bitcoin. And you also want to make sure that you've got a Hargreaves Lansdown or self-investing account set up. So there's others like Vanguard, etc. Um, but I use Hargreaves Lansdown. I have for 15, 16 years. But you want to be able to self-invest. You don't want to have to use brokers or intermediaries. You want to take responsibility for your own financial management. In my book Money, I wrote about you should be your own independent financial advisor. So people go to financial advisors because they don't understand money and investing, but money and investing is one of the most important fundamental things in your life, right up there with your health and your well-being and your family. And your relationships. It is. So why would you not learn to make, manage, and master your own money? Why would you not learn to be your own independent financial advisor? Because the only person that's going to be independent to you is you. Problem is, independent financial advisors might get commissions and might not be that independent. So you want to be able to invest yourself without needing to use intermediaries. Go and set up a Hargreaves Lansdown account. I get no commissions, it's not anything, I'm just doing it for you. I'm not, you know, There is no financial benefit to Rob Moore for any of these things that he recommends. Satoshi is not paying me a commission to recommend Bitcoin. Um, okay, next thing then. I mentioned this in the How to Invest $10K. It's a great investment to get you started. I'm not going to say it's going to go to the moon, but it is called Moon, and that is the Moon Swatch. So Omega and Swatch did a collaboration. It's called the Moon Swatch. There's all the planets and the moon. And they're £207 new if you can get one. Go to any Swatch main store, um, if there's a massive queue, that means they have stock of the Amiga Swatch, the Moon Swatch. They're £207 new, and, um, they're going for 80% to 150% to 300% premium or more on the gray market, secondhand market. So maybe you can only get a secondhand one. I was paying between $300 and $500 for the ones that I bought. I just think that Omega won't collaborate with Swatch forever. I think that Swatch get a massive brand increase. It's like Ford collaborating with Aston Martin. Who's going to do the best out of that collab, Ford or Aston Martin? Yeah, so I think Omega Swatches, Moon Swatches, are pretty good. If you can get one for $207, you've got a bargain. Maybe look at, um, um, checking the prices on sites like eBay and see if you can get a good deal on one. Okay, because, you know, you could end up collecting the whole set of that, and you could get one a month or one every 3 months, and it's a hard physical asset. And look, it's not a Rolex Daytona. Rolex Daytona is the proven residual increases in value, the steel ones especially. But, you know, you're not getting one of them for less than 20 right now, if you're lucky, that is, by the way. Okay, then there's 2 more things I'm going to share with you on how to invest with $0 to $5K. The 4th thing would be to build your own social media assets. So if you have people who watch you on Facebook, people who watch on TikTok, people who listen to your podcast, people who watch your YouTube, people who follow you on Instagram, LinkedIn, yada yada yada, all these channels, then they're assets essentially. Because every follower could have a financial value to you if you have products and services to offer, if you have membership site, if you have courses, online courses, if you ever write a book, if you do masterminds and mentoring and coaching and you're a consultant. All of these vocations, these are easily or more easily sellable online than maybe, you know, yoga classes, which you might have to do locally, or um, food, which obviously people have to buy your food locally in the restaurant. You can't have an online restaurant. You can have an online information business. So if you build out your social media, you put content out quite regularly on your niche, turn your content into cash flow, your information into income, what you already know into cash flow— that's not passive investment, but it's a massive investment. Because actually, if you've only got a limited amount of money The thing that's going to make you the most money— and everyone wants to know this— what will make me the most money with no money? The thing that will make you the most money with no money is a business. And that's an investment that can be an investment of time and sweat. Sweat beats regret rather than capital. Because yeah, look, if you want something passive, then you need more money because you want the money working for you. But if you don't have money, you can't have the money working for you. You have to have you working for you. but you do have to set to forget. So building an online business, an information business, courses, mentoring, masterminding, being a consultant, coaching online, weekly and monthly workshops, etc., this is a great investment in yourself. So the more content you put out on social media, the more followers and fans, the more shares and likes and comments and engagement, The more social platforms you're on, the more of a wide personal brand you have, the more leads you turn into clients, the more brand and the more mind space and awareness and virality. So people are quite surprised how much time I spend on social media. Oh, if you're so rich, why do you spend so much time on social media? Because I'm rich. Because my personal brand is now one of my biggest assets. And that's quite a big thing to say coming from someone who has a high 8-figure portfolio, with a good 7-figure income and 1,250 tenants. It's 1,250 now, it was 1,150 when I last looked. That was 1,100 when I last looked. So these are big physical assets. I own assets that are physical, but my ethereal intangible personal brand is probably of equal if not higher value. Now it takes my sweat, but doesn't have to take a huge amount of money, does it? If your content is good, it doesn't have to be long. So my question to you is, are you leveraging your IP, your intellectual property, your IP, your information profit? People call IP intellectual property, I call it information profit, and that has a really high return. And you can do that with zero money. Okay, and then the final asset I'm going to talk to you about investing in if you've got zero to $5K— I hope you found this useful— is a membership site. Because out of all the information that you can create, the quickest, cheapest, and probably easiest is a membership site. Because to write a 3-day masterclass course could take you 6 to 9 months. You have to have a lot of experience. To be a consultant, you might have to have 10 years in the game. To mentor people, it's intensely Um, it takes a lot of your time. You know, you might do hourly one-to-one sessions. How many of them can you actually cope with in a month or a week? But to set up a membership site is super easy in that you can set up on Patreon, for example. Don't get any commission. I should be getting commission on all these companies. I don't get any. I've got your back. Um, but you can set up on a platform like Patreon, which you don't pay upfront for, you just pay a share of your monthly subscription. You can charge £10 a month You can do, um, a couple of lives a day on, say, TikTok and Facebook. You can do content and then mention your membership site. You can get 1 to 5 new members a day, and within a year, with that consistency— and you could just do 10 minutes a day on that— you could have $10,950 up to $16,000 a month, every month, in recurring income from your membership site. And many of you I know are members of Rob.team because we've got fast approaching 10,000 members. But if you kind of like to learn— no, if you'd like to copy a membership site on how to build your own, one that, um, is very established, like I said, got nearly 10,000 members, why don't you join Rob.team? So, um, you're gonna love this. A brand new masterclass in Rob.team that I've just uploaded— I only did it last week— is called the Six Figure Subscription Secrets Membership Site Masterclass. So I did a 4-hour deep dive only for my Rob.team members on how to build their own membership site. Not just an intro fluffy, you know, couple of conceptual points, practical and tactical. And I basically just said, this is how I built Rob.team over the years. This is how it's gone from zero to a fast approaching 10,000 members. This is how you do the same. These are my mistakes, don't make them. These are the things I've done quite well, you can make them. And then we do a lot of the maths and you work out on minimal time how to have maximum leverage and get maximum members in minimum time and create the right amount of content in the minimal time. So if you'd like to gain access to that masterclass, which if I were to sell it privately, which I never will by the way, but it would probably be a couple hundred dollars, and you can get it for free if you're a member of Rob.team. So to join Rob.team, it's really easy. There is no ongoing contract. You can cancel anytime. And it costs you less than 20 pence a day, which is less than a large cup of coffee a month. So to join, it's really easy. All you need to do is open up a new web page, type rob.team into any new browser, web page, internet. Just open up, say, Firefox or anything like that. You don't even have to type in www. You just type rob.team. Rob team. Now, one of the things I mentioned in How to Invest Zero to 5K is building out your social media. And, you know, every follower should be worth a pound or two a year to you. So if you have a million followers, that could be 1 to 2 million a year to you. 10,000 followers, 10,000 a year to you, or two. So I actually did the 21 Ways to Monetize Social Media Masterclass a deep dive masterclass only for Rob.team members. Rob.team members get the exclusive content, or the content first, or the VIP ticket upgrades for free, etc. We've got a mover shaker and change maker community. So if you'd like to get access to the 21 ways to monetize social media, how I make 7 figures a year in income from social media, all you have to do is join Rob.team. That masterclass that I'm not selling anywhere else, and it would be a good $150 probably just type in rob.team, rob.team, into a new window on the internet. There's hundreds of hours of courses, resources, and masterclasses going back years. I do 2 live masterclasses a month, 1 Sunday session a week. I bring in guest expert mentor millionaires. I do 2 to 3 live face-to-face events a year. We have the Multiple Streams of Business Income 2-day event. This is a paid-for event Rob.team members come free. I've got the Recurring Income Summit, 2-day online experience. It's a paid event. Rob.team members come free. You get the VIP upgraded premium tickets. So you get all of this for being a member, and you pay less than 20 pence a day. And I reckon that ties in nicely to investing in yourself. Are you worth 20 pence a day? Because the more you learn, the more you earn. But to know and not to do is not to know. So I'll see you in Rob.team. Just type in Rob.team, Rob.team, into a new window on the internet. Really easy and quick to join, and all the content's in there. You can get it going back, you can join the lives, and then if you miss them, you can get the recordings. So quick summary, I wonder if you wouldn't mind sharing this if you think it's been useful. If you have 0 to 5K, I recommend that you Invest in yourself. Free podcasts, free credits on Audible. Watch the top creators on social media that you know are the real deal. Try and blag some— use your energy and your sweat equity to try and blag a few lunches and get a bit of support and guidance and advice. The next thing is you're going to shave $200 to $500 a month off your overall expenses, so you've got $200 to $500 a month new money to invest. Anyone who buys any gifts anywhere for you, you're going to ask for either money or help and credit with investing, audible credits. You might ask for some Bitcoin, they might be able to send you some crypto, etc. You're going to look into the MoonSwatch AmigaSwatch collaboration watches. You're going to build out your social media platforms because you should get £1 to $2 per year per follower. You're going to build online information, intellectual property, and information profit. And then you're going to start a membership site. And all of that you can do with less than $5K. You could technically do it with zero. So I hope you found this all useful. Thanks for tuning in. And remember, if you don't risk anything, you risk everything.
