Hypocrisy in Leaked P&O Ferries Memo 😳

P&O Ferries warned the government in a leaked memo that 800 redundancies would save 2,200 jobs. Ministers saw it and did nothing. When P&O fired workers on Zoom anyway, officials condemned the company, exposing their own hypocrisy.

So a leaked P&O Ferries memo to the government before the 800 firings on Zoom shows that the government were tipped off and emailed by a senior exec in P&O Ferries before the Zoom firings. Now, I hate to be smug, but I'm going to be smug for a moment. I did a live as soon as this happened, somewhat defending P&O Ferries and saying really more the government should take some responsibility and the government should do more, and that P&O are going to get absolutely lambasted in the media for firing or making redundant these 800 workers even though they were losing £100 million a year. And COVID has happened, and many businesses will go bust unless they make strong decisions like these redundancies were. And all you saw over social media was a lambasting of P&O and of their chief exec, and how the, um, firings— they're calling them The redundancies were handled. Look, doing a pre-recorded Zoom, maybe not class, you know, certainly it should have been live, I think. Um, I think if it was, um, curt and abrupt and short, I actually think that's often quite good in these situations because otherwise it can make them more emotional. Not many people would have had the courage to let go of 800 people. They'd have delegated that or They, you know, imagine if you're the person having to fire 800 staff on a Zoom. Anyway, so that happened. You probably saw it in the news. And P&O got absolutely slammed for it. And the government were— the government is a broad word, but people in shadow cabinet and within the government were calling it shameful, disgraceful, disgusting, callous, whatever else. Um, and I said, wait a minute, what are the government doing to help? Why aren't the government intervening? What are the government doing to protect the 800 people who were made redundant? And of course, nothing, nothing, nothing. The government were doing nothing. But it gets worse, and I freaking knew this. So get this right, leaked P&O Ferries memo sent to ministers before 800 workers were sacked on Zoom. Apparently, um, it was claimed that the ministers said that P&O would remain a key player in the UK market for years to come. The memo claimed that 2,200 staff would lose their jobs if 800 staff weren't made redundant. And apparently this memo was widely shared across government. So the P&O European Ferries, or P&O Ferries, they let the government know what they were planning to do, what they believed needed to happen to save 2,200 jobs by letting go of 800. The government knew about it. They shared it everywhere. They did nothing. The Department for Transport did nothing. And then when it happened, some members of the government ended up lambasting P&O for the way that they did it, that it was disgusting, that it was disgraceful, etc. I mean, what a joke. And I said this. I didn't want to be right about it, but I was. What are the government doing? So it's so easy to um, oh, corporation, you know, let's slam the corporation. But surely because of COVID where we were forced, all of us, not to go to work, not to trade, not to run a business, not to open our shops, yet the government could have a party every month— by the way, where's that gone? What happened to the Gray Report? What happened to the, you know, the implications and the accountability? Of Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, and the people in, um, our government who are having parties every month while we were freaking locked down and couldn't trade and couldn't open our doors and our shops, and we couldn't pay our staff or hire our staff. And you know, your employees had to stay at home. It's a joke. It's a freaking joke. And they should be supporting companies and entrepreneurs and small business owners to navigate through very difficult times. I mean, imagine you having to lay off 800 staff. So the memo, believed to have been written by a senior officer, claimed that if the company didn't sack 800 workers, then an estimated 2,200 staff would likely lose their jobs. It would— what it was widely spread across government, including the Prime Minister's Office and the Transport Secretary. The leaked memo reveals that the Department for Transport did nothing to oppose or question the company's decision, even though it may have been against employment law. And then when it happened, the government just distanced themselves from them and, you know, labeled them as disgraceful and disgusting and callous and cold, and it might be illegal, and we'll be looking into this. Why didn't you look into the email you got? When you were told about it. Instead of chucking P&O under the bus for the way they're treating their staff, why don't you take responsibility, government, for supporting all these people who are being laid off? As far as I'm concerned, much of the blame and the responsibility of all these layoffs from P&O European, P&O Ferries, is the government's. Now look, P&O, they have, I believe, a Dubai owner We don't know how the company and the money flow is managed, um, but the government were tipped off. And, uh, if we don't lay off 2,200— if we don't have 800 people, then 2,200 people are likely to lose their jobs. They were tipped off, they did nothing, and then they, um, criticized P&O for it. It's not right. It is not right. Let me know what you think, by the way, in the comments. By the way, please share this. I think it's important to get these messages out. I think we should stand up and speak out for the government to do more. Rishi comes out and says he, you know, in his, um, spring announcement that he's going to try and help— going to maybe try and help— while energy prices are going through the roof and Food prices are going through the roof, and gas and oil and fuel and inflation, it's all going through the roof. Cost of living higher than ever. Wage prices cannot keep up with cost of living. Taxes going up and up and up and up. Laying off of jobs, 800 people through P&O Ferries, just like that. And what are the government doing? Fuck all. They are doing fuck all. Fact. Reality. So hit the share button. They need to do more. They need to reduce VAT. They need to reduce corp tax. Let companies trade. It seems to me that the government only have one way of generating income, and that is increase taxes. They haven't figured out that if you incentivize, encourage, support, and subsidize small businesses and entrepreneurs and startups and scale-ups and companies to create jobs and produce and design and build— if you encourage this economy and this production and this manufacturing and you make it easier and lower friction for companies to do this, we can trade and manufacture and produce our way out of what happened in COVID. We create more jobs, we create more revenue, and then there's more revenue for the government. But instead they think, let's just take it all off them. You can go out there and you can work 60 hours a week, and you can work 45 hours a week for the government and 15 hours a week for yourself, because it's pretty much how it is. Because I pay about 70% tax on everything I sell— VAT, corp tax, income tax, business rates, National Insurance, employers, employees. Blah blah blah blah blah. On everything that I earn and everything I sell and everything that I buy, I pay about 70% tax. So what is that, 35, 30, 38 hours out of 50? I'm working for the government and they had their pay rise. Did you notice that went under the radar? They had their little £2,200 pay rise and then they're not supporting all of these layoffs and then they're just letting the media slam P&O Ferries for it. If I had to lay off— so what's this, 8 out of 2,200? If I had to lay off 30% of my staff, that would be one of the hardest days of my life. And I know I wouldn't do that just, you know, at the flip of a coin or flippantly. I'd stay up all night every night worrying about that. And I would only do that if the other option was that the company would go under. And there was no sympathy at all and just really bad press for P&O European Ferries and, you know, calling them that it would be illegal. But they sent the email to the government beforehand tipping them off about it. Anyway, hit the share button, let me know what you think about all this. I think we need to stand up and speak out and look, We put these people in government, we voted them in, so we must hold them accountable. And if they're not serving the nation as best they could, then they need to fuck off and someone else needs to come in who can. They need to stop having parties when we're on lockdown. They need to stop locking us down 2.0, 3.0, soft lockdown and everything else when really we should be trading. They need to stop smacking the taxes up and up and up and up and up and up. They need to stop shirking the responsibility of everything that's happened post-COVID and just smack taxes up and, and penalize entrepreneurs and business owners. And they need to start supporting and subsidizing, um, and guiding and reducing the penalties for running a business. They're my thoughts. Let me know what you think in the comments. Hit the share button. Quick summary: I did 2 lives on this P&O Ferries debacle when everyone on social media was slamming P&O for, you know, outrageous and disgusting and callous and cold, um, firing of 800 people on a Zoom. I thought, wait a minute, what have the government done to help? Nothing. There'll be more to this. They can't just do that. You know, a lot of people are saying from an employment law perspective that may not be legal, They're not stupid, they're not just going to do it. Oh, and lo and behold, they sent an email to the government and it went around the government and the Department for Transport and they all saw it and none of them opposed it. And then it happened and then they all started throwing P&O under the bus. And there's no help and there's no support. Am I in bed? Kind of, yeah, kind of, no. Hit the share button, let me know what you think. Thanks for tuning in and remember this. If you don't risk anything, you risk everything. Maria said your company will go down unless you jump ship to the dark side. What's the dark side? Sean Paul said Labour will make things worse. Yeah, yeah. Let me know what you think. Thanks for tuning in. Thanks for following my work. Thanks for, um, you know, sharing all my videos and my content. This one's important to share. Because if we— I used to think, no point me speaking up. Rishi's not going to be watching. Boris is not going to be watching. Vlad's not going to be watching. Biden's not going to be watching. No point saying a word. Just carry on helping entrepreneurs start and scale their business. Carry on teaching people about business and entrepreneurship. But if the tax— by the way, if the tax goes up another 5%, so if I pay 75% all in on what I sell and what I draw and what I buy, I'm fucking off out of this country. I'm not putting up with it. They can— I will take my millions and I will fuck off and I'll spend it somewhere else. You've got me on my limit, you bastards. You've got me at my limit. You know, corp tax has gone up 18 to 25%. VAT is already 25% on top. Income tax, 45%. National Insurance went up. Business rates, all other kind of stealth hidden taxes. Charlie has said I'm like an overexcited kid, except I'm not fucking excited about what the government are doing to us. I'm not. Now, was it easy to have a lockdown? No. Would I have done a better job being a prime minister? I don't want to be a prime minister. That's a poison chalice job if ever you've seen one. Was lockdown 1.0 maybe a reasonable thing to do? Well, look, you probably— you know, would you want to be responsible for millions of deaths potentially? So you can't blame them. For lockdown 1.0, but 2.0 and soft lockdowns and, you know, one, a couple of lame efforts at a bit of support and nothing else, and completely washing their hands of it all. And every time there's bad press about, um, the government and Boris and parties and all the things they've done wrong, more bad news comes and saves them. And they're just fucking getting away with it all. They're getting away with it all. Fuck. Not anymore. I might only be an army of one, but my videos are getting hundreds of thousands of millions of views. We can do a bit of something together here. If you share this on your social media, if you all share it and we shout loud enough, the government will have to fucking listen. They will. That's one of the actually the powerful things about social media is we now have a bit of a voice. A million views is like 100,000 signatures. But they've got to support small business owners, they've got to support entrepreneurs, they've got to support corporations. There's massive redundancies that need to happen. The government need to do what they can to look after those people, because everyone is on social media just blames the company that made them redundant and doesn't understand that it was the government that ruined their ability to trade anyway. Rishi, Boris, let's talk. I have a little, um, I have a little suggestion for you. Support businesses to increase employment, increase trade, and increase revenue, and you have a nice little share on the increase. And support us and subsidize us and guide us and incentivize us and give us some breaks, tax breaks and relief. 'Cause I'm telling you, I could probably increase my revenue by 40 or 50% with a bit of help. By certain things being made easier. If they weren't taking 70% of my money, I'd be putting some of that money back into the company to grow it again. I'd be hiring more staff. I would be, but there's not much fucking left. I mean, if you get a birthday cake and you open the box and 70% of that cake has fucking been eaten by before you get given it and open it on your birthday, you're going to be pissed about that. And that's how this country is being run. Oh, and then when you go down into your city and it's turned into a dump and, you know, healthcare is on its knees and all the things that— we should be grateful that we're paying loads of tax. Rob, you shouldn't moan about paying loads of tax, you should be really grateful. Why? Because that means you're making loads of money. Well, where's that fucking money going? So 'Cause it ain't going on the roads. Well, they're always doing roadworks, so the roads are fucked. And my city, which I love, by the way, is fucked. And the healthcare system is fucked. So where's the money going? Yeah, look, it looks like a lot of you have got a lot to say about this. Let me know what you think. Hit the share button. Government, you cheeky bastards. I knew this. Fricking knew this. Everyone slammed P&O. Everyone slammed it on, you know, for them making 800 redundancies on a Zoom. All right, it wasn't that particularly class move. It could have been done with a little bit more empathy. But, um, they sent a memo to the government to tell them that this is what they were going to have to do, otherwise 2,200 people would lose their jobs. They friggin' told the government, the government circulated it, and the Department for Transport saw it, and they did nothing. And then it happened, and then some members of the government started lambasting P&O for it. Oh, and it might be an illegal move, and they're, we're looking into this. Do I accept that the government controlled all the money? No, because I control my money. I earn my money and I spend my money. So no, I don't accept that the government control all the money. If I was employed they would control it more. But because I'm an entrepreneur, I am able to control some of it. That being said, all the fucking tax— by the way, inflation is a form of tax, and tax is a form of theft. Make no mistake about it. Make no mistake about it. Sarah says this country's a shit show. Yeah, now look, let's, let's be balanced. COVID, I mean, that would, that would reset a lot of stuff and make a lot of things hard, and there was always going to be casualties. From a business and a revenue perspective, obviously, as well as a human and a health perspective. So I've got sympathy for that, but that was 2 years ago and nothing's— nothing's changing. Taxes are going up, not down. Cost of living is going up, not down. What are you doing about it, you bastards? Come on. Let me know what you think. Hit the share button. I better not rant anymore, I get in trouble. Oh, it was nice watching Rob's lives and now it's been canceled. Old. Yeah, remember, if you don't risk anything, you risk every— the fucking— fucked up my own quote. If you don't risk anything, you risk everything. Thanks for tuning in. Let's get this word out. Let's hold the government to account. We put the government in power, you know, the current political party, the PM. We put them in their position. We the people must hold them accountable.
