Is Bitcoin Crashing to Zero? 😳

Rob weighs Bitcoin's crash risk against Warren Buffett's "rat poison" dismissal and evangelists predicting $250k-$1 million prices. Bitcoin offers decentralization and fixed supply but only capital appreciation, no cash flow. He recommends dollar-cost averaging with money you can afford to lose.

Is Bitcoin crashing to zero? Warren Buffett said he would not buy all of the Bitcoin in existence for $25. Not long ago, months ago, Bitcoin peaked at about $68,000 a Bitcoin. Bitcoin is now $21,000 a Bitcoin. You rarely, if ever, see any other market crash by more than two-thirds. You wouldn't see the real estate market, the stock market, or any kind of more mature market crash two-thirds of its price. The whole crypto market cap was over $3 trillion. Not many months ago, and now it's under $1 trillion. So the big question is, one, will Bitcoin go to zero? Warren Buffett thinks Bitcoin absolutely will go to zero. Warren Buffett's one of the smartest investors in the world. Warren Buffett has made hundreds of billions of dollars, and Warren Buffett is convinced that Bitcoin will go to zero. Charlie Munger, his business partner, calls Bitcoin rat poison. He has said that he is absolutely convinced that Bitcoin will go to zero, that Bitcoin has no value. Let me know in the comments if you think Bitcoin will ultimately go to zero. Then there's the Bitcoin evangelists. The Bitcoin evangelists are saying it's impenetrable, it's unbreakable, you can't manipulate it, uh, it's the hardest form of money that there is as opposed to the easy soft money of fiat currency. and it's volatile for various reasons, but many Bitcoin evangelists believe it will be $250,000, $500,000 in the next few years per coin. Um, Arslan here is saying Bitcoin will hit $1 million in 10 years. Fiona is saying Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger are nearly 100 years old. That's not far off. So I would love your thoughts. Now, um, what I like about Bitcoin is it is pretty much the only purely decentralized asset class. It's a store of value, it's a mechanism at the moment of saving. It's not really a medium of exchange used very— it's, it's got virtually no adoption in exchange of value. But what I like about it is, um, there's no inflation on it. It's completely decentralized. It is one of the best, if not the best, stores of energy and money that there are. There's like instant liquidity, um, that, you know, the price is the price. Super fast, lightning-fast transactions. All transactions are tracked and measured. Um, I like the fact that I think the governments need challenging and we need some decentralization. What I don't like about Bitcoin is its volatility, which makes it a bit of a scary investment, and only the proper purist hold-on-for-dear-life hodlers have the courage to hold over the long term. Um, Anastasia is wondering who's behind it. Do you know who is the person? So I ask you, do you think Bitcoin will go to zero, or do you think it will go down more but not go to zero and then bounce? Let me know what you think. What do you think this current floor is if you think it will go up? Um, I have been pound-cost averaging into Bitcoin over the last few years. I did sell some, and I probably shouldn't have. And I don't have more than a couple of percent of my net worth in Bitcoin. But I said stay away from what you don't know. Well, but to a certain degree I agree, don't put a load of your wealth in something you don't know. But there's nothing wrong with starting small, because what's the point in paper trading? What's the point in reading and learning for years before you really know something very, very well? Why don't you start just putting a small amount of money and then get interested? And definitely pound cost average. This is really important, you know. This is not investment advice, I'm having a discussion with you, but don't go and throw all of your money into cryptos and Bitcoin, in my opinion. I know lots of people who are such crypto and Bitcoin evangelists, they don't even want any fiat currency. Now, fiat currency is obviously getting smashed by inflation, you know. The, the, the pound and the dollar are just going down hard. Our cost of living is going crazy high. However, you still need dollars and pounds to, you know, pay your living expenses, to travel, to subside, to live. So look, don't go chucking everything in if you're like anti-government and anti-fiat system just yet. Yeah, Susan has said, I think the government want their, want their own Bitcoin. Um, yeah, I think that definitely governments are looking at a centralized digital currency. To be honest, a centralized digital currency scares me. They just have to get rid of cash, have a centralized digital currency, they track your every move in all your banking and all your payments, and they start manipulating you and controlling you through your banks and digital money. Don't fucking like that at all. Let me know what you think about that, by the way, about central digital currencies. Rich people are saying it's a fire sale. What do you think, Rob? Yeah, I mean, look, I think as long as you pound cost average, which means you invest in stages, not all at once, and you put risk capital you can afford to lose, I see no harm in buying some Bitcoin. I think many of the other cryptos are gambles, um, and not the same as Bitcoin. So I probably will start buying in again. I've been buying in over the last 2 and a half years, but like I said, relatively small amounts of money. And I think that's wise. You could buy in in stages with money you can afford to lose over time. Let's be honest, even if you lose 15% of the value of your Bitcoin, that's just like holding cash. So you could definitely argue that holding cash is very expensive right now. El Salvador has adopted Bitcoin as a currency. Exactly. Is it Michelle? So let's see what happens there in El Salvador. So I'd love your thoughts. Please share in the comments. Will Bitcoin go to zero? Probably the richest investor that's ever lived believes Bitcoin will go to zero. His bit— that's Warren Buffett. His business partner Charlie Munger believes Bitcoin is rat poison and it will go to zero. Warren Buffett wouldn't buy all the Bitcoin that exists on the planet for $25, but he did say he'd buy 1% of the real estate on the planet for billions of dollars, or 1% of the stock market for billions of dollars. So he thinks it's going to zero. Peter Schiff thinks it's going to zero. Yet a lot of the crypto evangelists think that, you know, this is part of the cycle, um, and that'll bounce back and there'll be $250,000 and $500,000 in a few short years. Let me know what you think. A couple of tips. Number 1, cash is trash, so you're probably wise to get a little bit of your cash out into things like gold and Bitcoin. That probably makes sense. Number 2, make sure you pound cost average. Don't throw all your money into Bitcoin because it's low and you're gonna buy the dip, because how do you know it's not going to go down a lot more before it goes up? Buy it in stages. That's called pound cost averaging. Or dollar cost averaging. Another downside for me for Bitcoin is it's a store of value, and therefore there's only one of the three ways that you can earn on an asset. Bitcoin, you can earn through capital, you can earn through the appreciation, you can lose through the depreciation. Um, you cannot get equity and you cannot get cash flow because Bitcoin's price is its price. Uh, and therefore you can't buy it under its real price today. You can't buy it below market value, but you can buy real estate below market value, watches and vintage cars and art below market value. Friend of mine bought £11 million worth of art for £3 million in this lockdown crazy situation we're in. That's equity. So if you can buy something below market value, you get equity. You can't buy Bitcoin below market value. Of course you can buy low and sell high, but that's not buying it below what it's worth. You buy it what it's worth. Yes, I do own Bitcoin, Hina. Um, and then you don't get income. So in real estate, you get equity if you buy well, capital appreciation— every 10 to 15 years, um, properties will double— and then you also get income. That's 3 ways. I love to earn 3 ways, not just 1 way. And in Bitcoin, you can only earn 1 way. That's capital appreciation in real estate and other— some other classes. In business, you can earn 3 ways. You can get equity by buying a business low. You can get capital appreciation by increasing the value of the business. You can earn income from profits, and you can sell the business and get more capital. So property and business earn 3 and 4 ways. Bitcoin earns 1 way. That's 1 downside of Bitcoin. Um, so by the way, if you'd like to earn on assets, earn not one but two but three ways. And they're all very well-respected investors. Or what do you think this— that the floor price will be before it bounces back? Are you one of these people that think that Bitcoin cannot go to zero, it's impossible because of the scarcity of supply and the lack of ability to inflate and quantitative ease it and manipulate it and control it? And because, you know, usually Things that are scarce go up in value. Art and watches and wine and cars that are really scarce, that there's not many of them, they go up in value. And that's the big case, the use case for Bitcoin. So when do you think it's going to go back up? Let's have a little discussion in the chat. None of us are giving financial advice, but let's have a discussion. Are you one of these people that think it's going to be $250,000 or $500,000 in 3 or 4 or 5 years' time, like a lot of the Bitcoin evangelists are? Let me know what you think in the comments. Let me know what you think about Warren Buffett saying wouldn't buy all of Bitcoin for $25, and Charlie Munger calling it rat poison, um, and Peter Schiff saying it will go to zero. Let me know what you think about that. Peter Schiff's been on, um, Joe Rogan like loads of times. Make sure you pound cost average, which means spread your investments out over time if you are going to go into Bitcoin, and especially in um, volatile other cryptocurrencies?
