The infamous Johnny Depp defamation case could be going to a retrial. Now, um, Johnny Depp versus Amber Heardâ the world watched closely as Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for defamation, and he won. He won $15 million in damages. But now Amber Heard is seeking to appeal or even have the verdict thrown out of court. Now, I don't know if you watchedâ I think most of the world watched the defamation case, Depp versus Heard. Um, there were the jury of 7 ruled in Johnny Depp's favor. He was awarded $15 million in damages. I knew people relatively close to, um, Johnny Depp, or at least in the celebrity media world, and they said that really Johnny Depp had no choice but to sue Amber Heard for defamation because, without naming him, she intimated that he, uh, he abused her and he hit her. It looked like he'd cleared his name, and now a 48-page filing has been presented to the court and it looks like Amber Heard and her legal team are seeking an appeal, or even to have the whole verdict thrown out of court. Now let me just sort of read you the specifics, if you like. So in Friday's 48-page filing, Heard's attorney proceeded solely on a defamation by implication, abandoning any claims that Mrs. or Ms. Heard's statements were false. So what they're saying, they believe that Johnny Depp's attorney was solely accusing of defamation by implication, but the implication of the defamation was actually false. Depp's lawyers argued that as Heard had retweeted the article the day after the publication, this was considered actionable republication. So I don't know if you know, the origin of the defamation was an article that was published, um, in an interview with Amber Heard. Now they're saying, well, she didn'tâ there was no defamation, she didn't name him, uh, and therefore only defamation by implication wasâ it's fucking complicated anyway. Retrial or thrown out verdict from Amber Heard's lawyers? Let me know what you think in the comments. The filing also asked the court to investigate whether one juror improperly served on the jury for the trial. So they're trying to discredit one of the jury members because apparently the age doesn't add up. The motion also claims the amount of compensation awarded to Depp was indefensible and excessive. So let's just try and make sense of all this, because the legal system is very complicated. Amber Heard is appealing the verdict, trying to get it thrown out or a retrial. Um, they areâ Amber Heard's side is saying there was no defamation by implication because there was no defamation. Um, Amber Heard's lawyers are saying that the title of the publication that she retweeted. Amber Heard didn't write the title. Depp's lawyers are saying, but you retweeted the title. But Heard's lawyers are saying, but they didn't write the title. Holy shit. Um, does the world need, um, Heard versus Depp round 2? I don't know. Um, also the Heard lawyers are trying to, um, What's the words? Bit of a fussy head this morning. They're trying to discredit a juror who apparently their age doesn't add up. They're also saying that the compensation awarded to Depp, $15 million, was indefensible and excessive. By the way, a lot of people are saying that Amber Heard can't afford the legal fees. So Depp's lawyers have responded briefly saying, this is what we expected. Although just longer, but no more substantive. So what do you think is going to happen? Will there be a retrial?
