Should You Work Over Xmas?

In this monologue, entrepreneur Rob Moore argues that working on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day can be a strategic sacrifice for building a side‑hustle or full‑time business. Drawing on his own experience of working holidays in his family’s pubs and his 20‑year entrepreneurial career, he explains how short‑term sacrifices—working weekends, giving up leisure, and treating holidays as work opportunities—can accelerate financial freedom. He outlines a practical “work‑life blend” schedule: early‑morning focused work blocks (2‑3 hours), followed by family time, workouts, and other personal activities. Moore critiques the education system for omitting basic personal‑finance knowledge (e.g., credit‑card interest) and positions money as a tool for freedom. He announces free 15‑minute one‑to‑one coaching calls on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and promotes his paid financial‑education platform, rob.team (Money School), detailing its low‑cost subscription, course catalogue, tax‑saving masterclasses, and the value proposition compared to traditional £700 courses. The video ends with a call‑to‑action for viewers to comment, join the platform, and adopt a work‑life blend mindset.

Should you work over Christmas? Unpopular opinion, but I've worked every Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day for at least 15 years. Now, when my dad owned pubs, I had to work every Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day because they were our best days for business. So some people don't have a choice. Maybe you do, maybe you don't, but there's loads of people out there, especially on LinkedIn, telling you that you shouldn't be on social media and you shouldn't be working over the Christmas period. So here's what I believe. Obviously, if you have a job and you get Christmas and New Year off, take it off, take a breather, enjoy time with your friends and family. You don't need me to tell you that. But what if you want to start your own side hustle? What if actually you're not earning a huge amount of money? You're worried about the high taxation, you're worried about the high inflation. Well, if that's the case, here's the reality. You need to make short-term sacrifices. It has to be harder now. It is harder now to be easier later. So I stopped taking weekends off, I stopped drinking, and I worked every day when I started my business, including Sundays, including bank holidays, including Christmas days. So I believe the following, as someone who's been an entrepreneur nearly 20 years, and you know, been, I'm pretty much one of the most successful in our industry in this country. So if you want to grow a successful business, if you want recurring income, if you want to quit the day job, you know, if things aren't going well for you financially and things are hard, You need to make sacrifices, and the quicker you make them, the better. Now the thing is, you can on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, do half your time with the family and half the time on the laptop doing a bit of work. It's possible. I mean, my kids, they want me for 20 minutes and then they want me to bugger off. And you know, I'm needed in the kitchen for 10 minutes and then bugger off. I'm needed to make this and then bugger off. So actually you can merge your lifestyle. You know, this work-life balance, I actually think work-life blend is better. And I don't work 12 hours a day every day. Like, for example, today I get up and I work at a slower pace. I check in with my family and anything they want me to do for the day because I'm often the skivvy over Christmas. Go and get this, go and do that, go here, go there. And that's great, that that as well as funding is my role, and I feel valuable in that regard. And I can easily get 4 or 5 good hours' work in and spend time with the family and meet everyone else's needs as well. It is possible. And here's the thing, you're gonna need to learn how to do this in your life if you want a second income stream, if you want to start a part-time business on the side, or if you want to run your own business. When you run your own business, it kind of has to come first, and you're going to have to learn to keep everyone happy and yourself happy. So to anyone who says, 'Oh, you should not work over Christmas and New Year, you just got to connect in with the family,' I'm not sure they really know how business and finance and success works, and you can make your own rules. It's Christmas Eve and I'm doing a live video because I make that rule. So screw what anyone else says, have your work-life blend, plan your days well. If you plan your days well, you can get up early on Boxing Day and Christmas Day and Christmas Eve and smash out 2 or 3 hours work, do your workouts, get it all done by 10 AM, spend the rest of the time with the family. By the way, when you smashed out 2 to 3 hours work in the morning, because I get up at, well, I start work at 6 AM every day, every single day, sometimes earlier. And if by 8:30 when I do these lives, I've smashed out 2.5 good quality hours work, I feel really good, I've owned the day, and I've got the rest of the day if I want to, to spend time with my loved ones and doing more R&R. But at the end of the day, money should be the god. Now look, money makes an amazing servant but a terrible master. But money is the tool and the fuel for great Christmas presents, for time off when you want to spend time with your family. And, you know, let's say your parents become ill. You've got time because you've got money that you can take off or you can fund their recovery. So actually money is really important and it needs to be a higher priority for a lot of people. It's not a high priority in the school system. I think the education system is terrible. Do you know you're in the top 7% of intelligence in the world if you know how interest on credit cards work? You're not even taught how interest on credit cards work in school. How is this? It's utterly bonkers. So they're my thoughts. Make your own plans. Blend, not balance. You can work Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day. You can do both. Fuck what they say. Do what's right for you. But, and I know I'm projecting a bit because I'm saying that, you know, this is my guidance, but look, if you don't want much more money, if you don't want to to start another business. If you just want a normal day-to-day job and you're prepared to pay the sacrifices of that, which is loads of tax and lack of freedom, fine. Take 2, 3, 4 weeks off, 5 weeks off a year. But if you're starting your business, sacrifice the holidays, sacrifice, you know, the rest time. Oh, it's all about self-care. You know, oh yeah, yeah, I'm prioritizing myself. No, prioritize your business making money Couple or three sacrifice years now could mean a lifetime of freedom later. Now a couple of quick things. So on Boxing Day and Christmas Day every year, I do one-to-one phone calls for free to help people. So I'm giving you an advance notice now that if you would like to talk to me tomorrow on Christmas Day or on Boxing Day, it could be for business problems, it could be for startup ideas, it could be for financial issues, it could be just because you want someone to talk to. I've done this every year for a decade. I don't charge, they're 15 minutes. If you need me just to listen, I'll listen. I'm not, obviously not a qualified therapist, but I will listen. And I've got some life experience and I've had my own challenges. Or if you want solutions to business and, you know, monetary challenges, they're probably my speciality. So what I'm going to do is tomorrow on Christmas Day, I'm gonna post, you'll just need to share your phone number via DM, it's secure and private, and then throughout Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and maybe through the festive season, I'm gonna do as many calls as I can on a first-come, first-served basis, completely for free, just because my goal is to help people. I've done it every year for 10 years, it's a way to give back, there's no ulterior motive. So if you do wanna talk to me about anything, keep your eye out for that. And then the next thing is, If you want better financial education and knowledge, I recommend you really need to be a member of my Money School. So my platform is called rob.team. We've just bought the domain Money School and it's a global platform to help you make, manage, and multiply money, build multiple streams of recurring income, get your tax bill down, get your earning power up, and get proper financial education and knowledge that you don't get in schools and the banks and the governments definitely don't want you to know. I mean, it's a shocker that if you understand interest on credit cards properly, you're in the top 7% intelligentsia in the world. I mean, that should be basic knowledge we're taught. We're not taught about budgeting. We're not taught about money emotions. We're not taught about personal finance in school. Why not? Because it doesn't benefit the banks. So if you want to benefit your own account, bank account, and make, manage, and multiply your own money, go join Rob.team now. It's really easy. All you do is type in rob.team. So, r-o-b dot t-e-a-m. r-o-b dot t-e-a-m. It costs less than 20 pence a day. It's half the price of Netflix. You can cancel anytime. There's no ongoing contract. There's no 12, 24-month contract. And there's hundreds of hours of courses, resources, and masterclasses. To make, manage, and multiply money. My digital global financial school, um, to give you the knowledge that you should have been taught in real school but weren't, that the banks don't want you to know, otherwise they can't make as much money on you. I am exposing the system in how it works, uh, and, and actually there's a lot to learn from the system that you can implement to make money yourself. And you can do it ethically, and you can do it, um, according to your own values. You don't have to be greedy or overly manipulative. You can do great things in the world. You can turn your passion into your profession. And like I said, there's hundreds of hours of courses, resources, and masterclasses in Rob.team. We've got new mentors and tutors coming in next year with real-world experience. Right now, over the next few weeks, we're doing tax-saving masterclass modules, which you can gain access to. Now, my usual cost for online courses is £700. So I usually do these 15-hour, 12-module online courses. They're £700 sold outside of Rob.team. But what I often do is do them live within Rob.team, record them, get them edited, and you get them in Rob.team first or forever, or they're in for a short time and then they're out onto my website at £700. So if you want to gain access to all these hundreds, if not thousands of pounds worth of course material on, for example, my Money Mastermind University, what the system doesn't want you to know about money and how it works and how to Make Money Like the Banks. My Tax Saving Masterclass, 7 hours of online course material on getting your tax bill down. Membership Site Monetization, how to launch your own membership site like my Rob.team. So it's all there in Rob.team. Go grab it all right now for less than I've spent on coffee this morning, and I'm going back for another one. So the link is Rob.team, R-O-B dot T-E-A-M. And let me know in the comments, what do you think about working over Christmas? What do you think about people telling you you absolutely, absolutely shouldn't? And what do you think about my points of having a work-life blend, not a work-life balance? Really appreciate you. See you on the other side. And remember, if you don't risk anything, you risk everything.
