The 3 Biggest Lies Ever Told About Money

Rob Moore argues that money does make you happy, you should do things for money, and the best things in life aren't free. He dismantles cultural narratives that discourage wealth accumulation and positions financial education as essential during the current cost-of-living crisis and inflation.

The 3 biggest lies ever told about money. The problem when it comes to money and what it really is and what it isn't is that the masses are indoctrinating your beliefs around money. Problem with that is the masses are broke. You must be very mindful of who you take your advice from. And you generally hear either zero heirs or billionaires say it's not about the money. But a zero heir wouldn't know because they haven't made any money, and a billionaire would say it's not about the money when they've got billions. So the advice out there can be very distracting, and I want to share with you 3 common lies around money that I think you need to retrain yourself to think differently on. And the first is that money doesn't make you happy. It freaking does. Here's how I can prove this. Now, I understand that money in and of itself, in isolation, doesn't make you happy on its own. I agree with that. Because if you are absolutely depressed and you get more money, that money could end up just exaggerating your depression. Money won't get you immediately out of depression, but wouldn't money make your depression a little bit better? Or could money make your depression a little bit better? I think you all know the answer to that. Now, I think if you were honest with yourself and you didn't think about what people might say about you or judge you— like, imagine if you did what you want that was right for you and good for others, but with no regard for what others think of you. I reckon you might take money a bit more seriously. I think you might learn to love it a bit more. You might focus a bit more on, on making it, and you not might not have the guilt or the judgment feelings if you were to make it big. For example, let's say you made good money in COVID fairly and ethically. Nothing wrong with that, but you might feel a bit guilty about sharing the fact that you'd made really good money in COVID. But if you offered a fair exchange in fair value, there would be nothing wrong with you making good money through the lockdown. So the reason I can tell you pretty much for a fact that money does make you happy is by asking you this question: if all other things were equal, everything in your life was equal, and you had lots of money or no money, what would you rather have? And what would make you happier? All other things equal, let's say the family's pretty good, the health is pretty good, you have general challenges but otherwise life is not bad, and you had no money or loads of money Let me know in the comments which one would make you happier. Would it make any difference? Because some people say, well, money over a certain amount doesn't make any difference, except they haven't made that amount, so how would they know? Because I believe if you want to do what you want, that's expensive. If you want to go where you want, that's expensive. If you want to spend time with who you want, that's expensive. So I believe that money actually does make you more happy, or at least it exaggerates your traits. It's an enabler. Okay, the second big lie when it comes to money is when people say, 'I don't do it for the money, you shouldn't do it for the money.' You should do it for the money, because if you don't have any money, you can't live. There's nothing wrong with doing it for the money. If you start a company not for the money, then you could trade insolvently, and that's illegal in this country, although the government are allowed to trade insolvently. Um, so So when it comes to business, you must do it for the money. You must make profit. If you don't make profit, you're not a proper company. So never feel guilty about doing it for the money. Now of course, should you have a valuable product and service? Yes. Should you try and do your best to help as many people as possible? Yes. Should you charge fairly? Yes. And are you allowed to make freaking loads of money doing it? Yes. And is it okay to be money focused? Yes. If you wanted to, um, hammer a nail into a piece of wood, you'd probably want to use the hammer as the tool because the hammer is a good tool and it's a better tool than using your hand. Money is a great tool. It's a great lever to help you do what you want, where you want, when you want, with who you want, to give you time and freedom and choice and profit. It's a tool and it's a lever. Nothing wrong with doing it for the money. Now, by the way, if you would like to make more money, if you'd like to get some bonus resources from me on money, I've actually created quite a lot of new resources around making money and saving money because of the challenging cost of living crisis we're in right now. The soaring prices, the massive inflation, the heat, electric, food, gas going through the roof. So, um, I wrote, um, 35 ways to save up to half your salary a year in, um, savings and saving costs. I also wrote how to create multiple streams of recurring income. I also wrote how to build digital assets. Um, so if you'd like access to these gifts, I'm going to share them with you for free. Just write the word toolkit in the comments, the word toolkit, because I've created this new financial toolkit. I'll give you access to the link in the comments in a moment. Just write the word toolkit. So 35 ways to save up to half your salary a year in savings, um, how to build digital assets, how to create multiple streams of recurring income, and many other gifts and resources. I can see Brad's written toolkit, so just write toolkit in the comments and I'll share those gifts and resources for you, for you and with you. They're for free, there's nothing to pay. Okay, so I have covered, um, 2 of the 3 biggest lies of money. One is that money doesn't make you happy. It actually does. All things equal, I was happier with money. And here's the thing as well: when you don't have money, you, you, you often have a lack of resources. So, um, in fact, you focus a lot more on money when you don't have it because you can't have all the things in life that you need. Because the thing with money is it's not really a thing, it's just a universal exchange of value. We've all agreed to barter and exchange value and products and services with each other using money as the frictionless universal tool. But we need that tool to exchange our products and services and buy from and sell to each other. So Tony has said here something interesting: the biggest lie about money is that it has any value. What it has, Tony, is the value we place on it by means of trusting it. What money is, is the greatest story ever told, because it's something that everyone believes in. Not everyone believes in religion, not everyone believes Really, in anything in the world except money, everybody's agreed to trust it and believe in it. So actually, in that regard, it's a very powerful tool and concept to get everyone universally to agree and buy into it. I think that's very powerful. So if it's a story, the greatest story that's ever told, and if it's a tool and a vehicle, then you can use a tool to make you more happy, and you can exchange your time and products and services for useful tools that can give you value and can create fair exchange. And this is what money does. And this is why 'money doesn't make you happy' is a big lie, and 'don't do it for the money' is a big lie. You know, when all these billionaires say, 'I never do it for the money,' well, do it for free then. Give all your billions away and do it for free. If you don't do it for the money, you clearly did do it for the money because you got billions. So just saying. But there's also a lot of people who keep themselves broke because they're telling themselves a false story. Shouldn't do it for the money, shouldn't be about the money, money doesn't make you happy, don't want to be greedy. All these things, they tell themselves a story and they limit their own wealth building. The thing is, it doesn't make you a better or a worse person if you're wealthy, so you might as well be freaking rich. If you're not a better human being being wealthy or broke, why wouldn't you choose to be rich? And in fact, I would argue you can even be an even better human being if you're wealthy because you can give money away, you can support charities and foundations, You can, um, travel a lot more and do good work and reduce your prices, give bonuses and benefits and free time and education to many people. So actually, money will make you a better person if you use the tool well. And remember, if you write toolkit in the chat right now, I've actually got 6 or 7 bonus resources I've created in this cost of living crisis and this soaring prices. I've also got 21 ways to monetize your social media, 19 ways to 10x your social media following, and I'll give you access to weekly resources. Just pop the word toolkit in the comments. Okay, the third big lie around money— by the way, if you're finding this useful, please share it. If you think there's other people you know in your network that could do with having a better relationship with money and a mindset around money, please hit the share button. If like me you believe there's not enough education around money in schools um, then hit the share button because I am doing my best to do daily content to help people in this cost of living crisis, in these soaring prices, because shit just got real. I've never seen inflation at 10%. I've never seen electricity bills of £8,000 and £10,000 a year while interest rates are really low. I've never seen this perfect shitstorm. It's crazy. So I want to help as many people as I can. Okay, and then the third big lie around money is that the best things in life are free. No, the best things in life cost a lot of money to be free. Now admittedly, a smile feels great, but what also feels great is doing kind things. And to be able to do kind things often costs money, or at least you need time. And how do you get time? You need all your overheads and your bills paid through passive income so you have the time to go and do the best things in life that are free. So actually, the best things in life are often pretty expensive. Um, I'm sure if you think about all the things you'd love to do with the people you'd love to be with and worked out how much that would actually cost, that would cost a lot of money. Like, if you're an artist, would you like really nice materials or shit materials? If you are a creator or a videographer, would you like really nice cameras and lighting or really shit camera and no lighting? Of course you'd like great tools and resources. To fuel your passions and professions. So the best things in life often are pretty damn expensive. So don't let the masses trick you into thinking that money is somehow the root of all evil, or the love of money is the root of all evil, or that it's not all about the money, or that money doesn't grow on trees, or that you should— shouldn't flaunt your wealth, or you shouldn't talk about money because it's very taboo, and you shouldn't be so focused on money All these things are wrong. They're judgments of other people. Look, I've been skint and I've been rich, and I can tell you, all other things equal, being rich is much better. Does being rich come without problems? No. Are there big challenges to being wealthy that maybe I would rather not have? Yes. But I've been skint and in debt, and when I was skint and in debt, I worried and obsessed about money much more, so I thought about money a lot more. When I was broke, and I'm able to do a lot more nice things and be a nicer person. Because when you're broke, you might want to do nice things, but you can't afford it. Because they say, isn't the greatest gift of life time? You know, they say that love with your children is time. Well, if you're working 12 hours a day, you can't give them any time. And it's money that pays all your bills so you don't have to work all the time. Look, I'm trying to help as many people as I can on this planet start and scale their business and get better financial knowledge. I'm on a mission to change the way we think about money in schools, uh, and in general society. That's why I'm doing daily money content. So please make sure you share this. Thanks for all the kind comments. Let's help as many people as we can together. That's also why I wrote the UK's best-selling book called Money. That's also why I have a podcast called Money. There's also a community of thousands of entrepreneurs just like you, hustlers who want to start and scale a business, get better financial education and knowledge. I am on a mission because I do think that the money, the information that we're taught in schools is not good. I I do think that the masses are indoctrinating us around poor, unempowering money beliefs. Um, you know, if someone said to you, your passions don't make you happy, don't do it for your passions, and you know, the best things in life are not your passions, you tell them to piss off. But people say money doesn't make you happy, but money can finance your passions. People say don't do it for the money, but money can finance your passions. Doesn't make any sense. But the problem is too many people out there have a voice around money that don't have any money. I have generated more than a quarter of a billion in revenue. Now, that's not all net, net, net profit to me because I've got a business partner and a wife and kids, but, you know, a lot— a decent amount of that has been profit. I've got 1,550 tenants across hundreds of properties. We just developed a 99-apartment block. We're developing another 42-apartment block. I wrote the UK's best-selling book on money called Money and the podcast Money. So said with humility, this is a specialist subject of mine and I can really help you. So if you would like to create income, residual income, recurring income, passive income, digital assets, then join rob.team. R-O-B dot T-E-A-M. I'm celebrating the 3rd year anniversary of launching this platform. We've got thousands of members. I don't really talk about it at all. Have you ever heard me talk about it on Facebook? I rarely do. I should be talking about it a lot more. So go and join right now. I will add the link into the comments once I've finished this video. Please also hit the share button because, um, things are going to get worse before they get better. Inflation is going to go way above 10%. Interest rates aren't going to go up quick enough, and if they go up quick, that's going to affect people in, in other ways. You know, gas and electric and food are going to go up before they go down. All the asset prices and the price of everything is going up and up and up, and it's going to get worse. Taxes are going up, and then they're going to keep going up and up and up before they go down. So you can't just get ready, you need to be ready. And the best way that you can combat the massive increase of taxes, the massive increase in cost of living, is to build digital assets and have recurring income, um, and to focus on money and learn to love money. And Sean Paul has just said a big crash is coming. I believe it is. By the way, crashes can be good for you. As long as you know how to build assets, you know how to create recurring income, you know how to build evergreen, everlasting digital assets, and you have a good relationship with money. And this is one of my specialist subjects. So if you join rob.team, R-O-B dot T-E-A-M, then you can gain access to 12 to 15 30-minute-plus articles and live videos and content from me on starting and scaling your business and getting better financial education. 2 masterclasses a month from 2 hours to a day long. I've even got a 2-day recurring income summit. These events cost hundreds, even thousands of pounds to the masses, but as a Rob.team member, you get them for free. That's the link. Diana's just put it in the comments. Rob.team. I'll see you all in there. I can see some of you are joining or have joined. Thanks for tuning in. Hit the share button. And remember, the 3 biggest lies around money ever told by the masses who haven't got any money, or by the billionaires who've got so much it doesn't matter anymore, is number 1: money doesn't make you happy. All things equal, you will be more happy with more money. Number 2: don't do it for the money. Well, you should, because money is the tool we exchange value. You don't have the tool, you can't exchange value. And if you run a business, you have to to do it for the money. And then the third thing they say is the best things in life are free. I would say the best things in life are freaking expensive, whether it's time or money. There's a cost to the best things in life, and you need to have all the money and all the time to be able to buy and have the time to enjoy the best things in life. Thanks for tuning in. Hit the share button. Join Rob.team at rob.team. M. And if you don't risk anything, you risk everything.
